Constantly need to pee?! So frustrating

Bobski123 · 11/07/2023 07:04

Anyone else? There's no burning, no pain, I just need to go constantly. I had antibiotics for a UTI a couple of months ago but it seems to have come back.
Some days it's better than others but yesterday, I was going every 30 minutes. If I have a fizzy drink it seems to go right through me, I will need the toilet almost instantly.
It's getting me down and having an impact on my life. I have no other symptoms apart from a very slight twinge in my left side sometimes.
I imagine a lot of women suffer with this. What can the GP do? Anybody managed to improve it? I'm so fed up..

Have you been checked for diabetes? Frequent peeing to flush sugars out is a symptom.

InTheNameOfTheTeaBag · 11/07/2023 07:09

I'd definitely see a GP about this. How long has this been going on for? They might prescribe a blood test to check for things like your blood sugar. If I remember right, it could be a symptom of diabetes.

Have you increased your caffeine intake recently? That can also increase your urge to pee as can certain medications.

The twinge might be nothing or might be something like kidney stones or or appendicitis.

It's probably nothing but get it checked out.

Overactive bladder is often linked to perimenopause

Elephantinasandstorm · 11/07/2023 07:13

It can be something as simple as cold feet for me.... When my feet are cold I am just permanently on toilet.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/07/2023 07:17

I had a fibroid pressing against my bladder.
It began in pregnancy though so nobody ever took any notice and I just got lectures about not having done my pelvic floor exercises.
Fibroid removed, I no longer need the loo all the time. Hurrah!

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 11/07/2023 07:19

I’m like this if I have thrush and it’s my only symptom of thrush, I don’t get any discharge or itching.

ThisIsACoolUserName · 11/07/2023 07:23

My anxiety causes this OP.
We're just on hols and are reshaping our final day entirely, to avoid a long transfer on a coach with no access to a toilet.
I'm not saying you have anxiety, but have you ruled it out?

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 11/07/2023 07:25

Another one here saying you need to be checked for diabetes.

Bobski123 · 11/07/2023 07:26

Thanks everyone. I had a diabetes blood test about 2 years ago and it came back negative, but maybe I should try for another one.
I'm 32, so not sure if it's perimenopause just yet but who knows.
My Mum has had fibroids, so it's a possibility.

Yes, me too.

Bobski123 · 11/07/2023 07:27

I don't drink any tea or coffee, I used to have a can of diet coke a day which I know is terrible! I only have one or two a week now.
I worry the GP will just give me antibiotics again.

I have had this twice. Goes away by itself after a few months. I go to the doctor, have some tests and it gets better by itself.

EsmeSusanOgg · 11/07/2023 07:31

I have an amoxicillin resistant UTI, that except for peeing a lot was asymptomatic until it went to my kidney. Please check it out - I had to be on a drip with iv antibiotics for two days as sepsis risk.

Also, drink as much fluids as possible.

EsmeSusanOgg · 11/07/2023 07:31

I had - not have

Kaftanesque · 11/07/2023 07:39

It sounds counter productive but drink more water.Just water.Fizzy drinks contain sugar or artificial sweetners.I cut down on sugar, and lots of processed foods contain it and I'm sure even though not diabetic my urine was aggravating the lining of my bladder.Like you it was getting me down peeing so often.I did go to the GP and had a bladder scan to check my bladder was emptying properly and tested for residual infection and all was clear. Now I have a couple of coffees a day, have right cut back on tea as I worked out that made things worse too,and drink lots of water throughout the day and eat lots of veg and fruit and unprocessed food.Things have improved massively. Do get checked out but and good luck.

justasking111 · 11/07/2023 07:54

Avoid acidic foods like tomatoes, anything with vinegar in. Orange juice. Etc

Get a urine test from the nurse. Also weirdly low folic acid causes this so would suggest blood tests.

Thankgoodnessforabitofsun · 11/07/2023 07:54

I used to need to wee all the time when I ate dairy. I cut all dairy products out of my diet (milk, cheese, butter, even in tiny quantities) and the constant need to wee stopped. Obviously see you gp as people have suggested, but also try cutting out dairy. Also agree with pp who’ve said to try cutting out all drinks but water

Goatsanddogs · 11/07/2023 07:58

It could be interstitial cystitis. This is something I get and it can be very debilitating at times. I can be up in the night 5 or 6 times. The triggers for me are artificial sweetener and spicy food.

Same. Especially if you don’t really go much. Sometimes it can just be an inflammation from riding a bike or similar. You could try taking ibuprofen for a few days to see if it goes.

Lammveg · 11/07/2023 08:22

I'd agree going to GP, but also consider is it an habit now? Sometimes I think I need to wee all the time before leaving the house because I don't want to go while I'm out so can go like three times in 30 mins IYSWIM. Have you tried holding your wee for a bit and do you wee lots when you go?

Sapphire387 · 11/07/2023 08:27

It sounds most likely that the antibiotics haven't cleared the UTI. Did they give you three days' worth? I usually need seven despite them saying three days 'should' be enough.

Bobski123 · 11/07/2023 08:39

Thanks so much for all your help. Yes, they gave me 3 days' worth. I do ride a bike a lot too, not sure if this plays a role.
I try to hold it for as long as I can but it just feels uncomfortable. I'll get an appointment sorted today.

booksandbrooks · 11/07/2023 13:48

The advice is drink sips of water regularly through the day but not big gulps (it's tempting to dehydrate yourself so you don't need to go so much but the concentrated wee is more irritating for your bladder.)

Fizzy drinks and caffeine both increase irritation/ need to go. I find watermelon is also a shocker for this.

Definitely get your GP involved. They can test for diabetes ans refer you to a bladder specialist.

In the mean time do pelvic floor exercises twice a day or more and avoid things that irritate your bladder.

If you're in to exercise try and do body weight only and low impact too. (So not jogging or using weights.)

After 10 years of needed to pee all the time and having tests for interstitial cystitis etc I finally got diagonosed with endo on bladder. Initially had no other symptoms

I had a job a while back where I had to cycle into the city centre. After about 6 months I got something similar......needing to pee all the time but peeing itself didn't hurt (so not a classic UTI). After several lots of antibiotics, I was finally diagnosed with sterile urethritis, i.e. irritation of the urethra without an underlying bacterial infection.

I stopped cycling and it gradually got better, but took at least a couple of years for it to completely go away. I'm never cycling again, that's for sure.
