to want a single f-ing hotel in Bath to be able to accomodate us for one night only?

After spending all of last night searching for somewhere fabulous to go next Saturday for my birthday in London and coming away feeling disheartened, my DH had the brilliant idea of going to Bath instead.

So have been on the case. Have instantly found a number of restaurants that look fab and exactly what I'm after. But I cannot find anywhere in Bath that will let us stay for a Saturday night only - well bar one place that you probably really wouldn't want to stay in - oh, and another that charges £580 for the cheapest room (gosh, I wonder why they have availability?).

I know they run a business - but don't they know that parents who finally get a chance to have a night alone without kids really can't stay for two nights because they can't get someone to babysit the kids for that long. Can't someone in the hotel industry just give us a freakin' break??

It's official. I have lost my will to live trying to find something to do for my birthday. Sniff.

have you googled hotel.com? or any other websites?

JoshandJamie · 24/02/2008 20:21

Yup - and they all come up with the message - two night stay minimum on weekends. will keep trying but so far nothing.

Sad

Have you tried late rooms?

msappropriate · 24/02/2008 20:24

I was looking at hotels for sat night recently, found lots in cheltenam that did sat night only. Even the Kadinsky that said it didn't, when I emailed them they said they would.

Just tried a new search while you were all posting and I found one tht will take us for a Saturday night - £125 for a bog standard room at a hilton, but it's better than nothing. Will take a quick look at all the suggestions before booking but I seriously need to get off this pc before I lose it!

Thanks for all the help everyone

Mildmannered, that last one is for two nights also

Honestly, I think I'm going to start up a business that caters to parents desperate for a night away - where you can go for limited periods and if all you want to do is sleep, then that's cool too.

We've just come back from a one-night stay at the five-star Cardiff spa hotel St. David's. It was 213.00 for dinner bed and breakfast, via their website ONLY. It was utterly AMAZING.

JoshandJamie · 24/02/2008 20:37

babyinacorner - that place looks gorgeous - lucky you. But they have a two night stay policy for a Saturday. Meanies.

And you know, I'd even change the day, except that it's my actual birthday on Saturday and I WANT TO GO AWAY SOMEWHERE!!!!

Rant over. Time for more wine.

I used to work in a hotel that didn't make you book both nights and we would be deadly on a Friday night. So can understand why they would do this.

as a thought have you tried bristol instead? near to bath - 12 miles and you may get lucky - I have had many a saturday night only hotel room in bristol

Bimblin · 24/02/2008 20:41

I live in Bath. And there are simply millions of really nice B&Bs, why don't you try them instead?

Bimblin · 24/02/2008 20:42

Like this one:www.apsley-house.co.uk/

JoshandJamie · 24/02/2008 20:43

I know why they do it too - but it sucks. I don't really want to go to Bristol or anywhere that we have to drive to. We have from lunchtime on Saturday till midmorning sunday to pack in a lot of shopping, eating out (including drinking therefore no driving) and then collapsing so would prefer somewhere in Bath that we can sway home too.

Might just go for the hilton option - not like we'll be spending masses of time in the room (although a bit of romance would have been nice).

Now, while we're on Bath, can anyone suggest fab restaurants. The one's I've seen that I like the look of are:

Hudson Steakhouse bar & grill
Firehouse Rotisserie
The hole in the wall

Are they nice?

Bimblin - lovely one. Have emailed them to check availability!

Or this:

If you can afford Royal Cresent go for that!

The Hole in the Wall is top class, haven't been to the Hudson but meant to be good, Firehouse is fairly standard.
The Olive Tree (at the Queensbury Hotel) also good plus the restaurants at the Royal Cresent Hotel are good.

Roobie · 24/02/2008 20:55

I didn't like the Hole in the Wall when I was last there (it smelt of dirty dishcloths) but granted that was a couple of years ago.

My favs from way back when were Le Beaujolais, Woods and Moon and Sixpence. They are still there I believe which bodes well - there's doubtless loads of others. I lived in Bath for 7 years between 1991-1998 and still go back fairly regularly.
