To think this Is a crazy intense birthday gift?

DD (6) good friend is also turning 6. I would have no idea what to buy her as she has lots and lots of toys. I had the idea of putting a little photo book together of all the photos of the play dates they've had together. DD loved the idea and helped me choose photos etc and I've just ordered it.
But now I'm panicking the Mum will find this crazy intense? For context we do socialise with them so it's not just a random classmate but I'm still second guessing myself...
YABU - she will run for the hills and change her phone number
YANBU- it is a lovely thoughtful gift

Meh.

The present isn’t for the mum so who cares what she thinks.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 05/07/2023 12:15

My DS almost 5 would love this from his friends

JJJSchmidt · 05/07/2023 12:15

I don't think it's a gift that a 6 year old would definitely love

waterydrink · 05/07/2023 12:15

I'm not sure it's a gift a 6yo would appreciate to be honest. A book would have been a good alternative to photo book or another toy

DinoMummsy · 05/07/2023 12:15

Yanbu, sounds like a lovely thoughtful gift

MaryShelley1818 · 05/07/2023 12:16

I think it's really sweet and thoughtful. Will be a lovely keepsake. But I'd also include a very small cheap toy if budget allows, or a pack of stickers or similar as kids love toys!

sunnydayhereandnow · 05/07/2023 12:16

Sounds cute. My 3yo enjoys photo books that reminds him of places and people, and also seeing himself at various ages.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/07/2023 12:17

I think it’s a very sweet idea but might buy a small toy or similar as well, as I’m not sure how excited a 6 yo would be by a photo book. Perhaps more fun to give than to receive for kids?

JulieHoney · 05/07/2023 12:17

My experience is at 6 they love seeing photographs of themselves. I think it’s a very nice gift.

moneymatr · 05/07/2023 12:19

It depends on the child. Both my dds would have loved it. Ds wouldn't be interested. Your dd loves it and it is a lovely thoughtful gift

AndEverWhoKnew · 05/07/2023 12:20

I'm not sure it's 'intense' but at 6 my DC wouldn't have cared about a book of photos. They loved taking photos and ran about like a mini Peter Parker with their little camera but wouldn't have voluntarily flicked through a photo album.

mosiacmaker · 05/07/2023 12:23

The most well received gift I’ve ever given to a 6 year old was a makeup kit. Maybe something alongside book?

MindPalace · 05/07/2023 12:25

As others have suggested, how about some stickers as well? They could decorate the front cover as well as adding one to their favourite pictures maybe? Eg bunnies or anything else they like?

MDJB · 05/07/2023 12:25

What about a scrapbook kit PLUS some of the photos you've saved. Then the child will be able to create the book how she wants. The Works does a great scrapbook set - or used to at least - complete with stickers, glitter glue etc.
I feel this would be a good compromise Smile

Heyisforhorses · 05/07/2023 12:32

My daughter got one of these from her friend in creche when she 5 or 6 and her and her siblings still look through it. I think it's a lovely idea and while reading other posts it may not get the full appreciation now, it will in another year or 2.

MDJB · 05/07/2023 12:33

Amazon have some. I have 3 girls and these used to go down well whenever I gifted them. The child could choose to add different photos too, which would make it a bit less intense!

A mix of responses but good to know it doesn't come across as being "too much". I completely take on board about a photo book potentially not having the wow factor for a 6 year old so will pick up a toy or activity as well. Thanks!

I think as long as it’s got a little toy and space in it to add her own photos and stickers it’s ok. But if it’s complete I think it’s not so great.

Agreed. So maybe the photo book plus a few crafty items.

eddiemairswife · 05/07/2023 12:47

Is that what people do nowadays? Take photos of their children playing with friends?

Chasetherainblownfearsaway · 05/07/2023 12:51

My daughter is 6 and would look at it briefly, then never be interested again. As a mum I can't say I'd be bothered, but I would think it was a bit of a waste of effort. (I would have been cross about a makeup kit, though!)

Oh come on. It's hardly a novel concept. I've got photos of myself on playdates in the 1980s.

OP I think it sounds like a lovely gift. My nieces would love this and I hope your DD's friend does too.

Horizabel · 05/07/2023 13:03

I don't think it's so much that it's 'crazy intense', it's that I don't think a 6 year old would consider it much of a present.

This.

and maybe leave some space so you can keep adding to it!

Sceptre86 · 05/07/2023 13:06

My 7 year old would love it, my soon to be 6 year old son would not. Depends on the kid and you know them better than we do.
