Did the captain Tom foundation charity really use the money to build their own spa pool??

Just reading the paper this morning and see the family of Captain Tom have been ordered to pull down a building in their garden with a spa pool. I think it's a planning issue but the inference is that they used the money raised to build it. Did they really?

That's probably the worst thing, though, some of the money probably was well-used (not that I donated to that particular cause) but it will all be overshadowed by any misuse or even just reputational damage that's found subsequently. I mean you don't accidentally build a swimming pool, do you?

ughhowawful · 05/07/2023 15:03

I always felt a bit odd because Captain Tom failed to move me. I didn't feel sad when he passed anymore than I would about any very elderly stranger.

The duet with Michael Ball made me cringe

Mrsjayy · 05/07/2023 15:08

The whole thing left me cold I am not particularly nostalgic though so maybe that's why and he was really just an old fella going for a walk that the media and his family ran with.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 05/07/2023 15:38

I just watched the Michael Ball duet on YouTube.

Grifters grifting. Talk about cringe 🫣😬

Mrsjayy · 05/07/2023 15:40

Tbf Michael Ball loves tp ger his neb in anywhere he will go to an opening of an envelope so him "dueting" with sir Tom didn't surprise me

Mrsjayy · 05/07/2023 15:41

Goodness me typos sorry.

I am now starting to think that the daughter and her husband may have orchestrated Tom's efforts from the very beginning, and generated media interest about him in a bid for their own financial gain. So very sad for Tom's legacy, this should not have been allowed to happen.

Why would you assume Tom was a naïve victim if it was for financial gain? He seemed pretty compos mentis to me.

Well I would hope a 99 year old man was fund raising for charity out of the good of his heart, but you are right, who knows now!

LinMortisanass · 05/07/2023 15:43

Is it true that her husband Colin Ingram is related to Charles Ingram (the coughing scandal cheat on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?)

Is "is related" code for "is actually Charles Ingram"? Grin

Roussette · 05/07/2023 15:54

They aren't related...

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 05/07/2023 15:54

Watch the GMB Pride of Britain YouTube video if you really want to feel nauseous. The whole thing was hideous and it still shocks me how fast celebs are to jump on a bandwagon and how the public lap it up in droves.

Chocolateship · 05/07/2023 16:04

I love how on twitter he confirmed he isn't related but didn't deny he was a grifter.

bananaskin123 · 05/07/2023 17:04

Haven't read the whole thread but wondered if anyone mentioned that she was inerviewed on Three Counties local radio not so long ago and talked about a new charity she was setting up. Something like B kind (not quite that but I really wasn't listening to it all). Andy Collins mentioned about investigations into CT's charity and I THINK she said they expected to be cleared of any wrong doing. Did anyone else hear it?

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2023 17:35

Piers Morgan was the one who brought it to the nations attention during that weird time in history on the ITV Morning show he used to present. I can remember him interviewing him and his daughter and then it kind of ' blew up ' as they say. I remember thinking at the time if all the money will go to the NHS.
I like to think that the majority of it did and it did some good. It wasn't the old boys fault , he just wanted to do something and had the grounds to do it in without leaving his own home.

girlfriend44 · 05/07/2023 18:02

No doubt the trip to Barbados re Covid finished him off.

No idea about the daughter but if it turns out she is dodgy then it wouldn't surprise me.

EpicChaos · 05/07/2023 20:27

I thought he seemed like a canny enough bloke the first time i saw him but i wasn't particularly interested in watching the circus surrounding him so didn't take any notice and I didn't donate.
As with other PP's, I knew the NHS had no mechanism to take donations as such, so I was unsure how the money would be paid and whether it would only be used in one area of the country. I couldn't be bothered to investigate further into it all, I make donations whenever i visit our local hospital anyway, so it's not like I don't make any donations at all.
When there, I donate to MacMillan, the air ambulance, which receives no government money, the WRVS, who use the profits from the tea lounge and the couple of little shops, to buy things for the hospital, or donate it to equipment appeals. I also give to the holistic centre which provides services such as aromatherapy, counselling, hypnotherapy, etc., for cancer patients and their families, free of charge.
At least I can see my donations being put to good use, which is more than people who donated to Capt. Toms' charity seem able to do, unless your his close kith and kin, allegedly!

There is another daughter and she had absolutely nothing to do with all of this.

Don't go and look at Hannah Ingram-Moore's business webpage, it will make you feel a bit nauseous!

As for her blog... we have such gems as
'Bouncing back - how resilience will transform your life'
'How to challenge yourself to find greater success' money
'Seven simple steps for a positive and productive week ahead--
'Dealing with negativity' (ooops!)

All very apt.
Loads of Captain Tom stuff on there too 😲

She really sounds like one of those MLM grifters who moves on into "coaching"

Following the press and social media coverage and comments over the past two weeks, the Board of Trustees of The Captain Tom Foundation wish to clarify that neither Hannah Ingram-Moore, nor any family member, have authorised or made payments of any kind from the charitable funds of The Foundation to themselves or companies owned or controlled by them.
The related party payments disclosed in the audited Financial Statements for the period to 31 May 2021 relate to the reimbursement of costs paid for by companies owned or controlled by the Ingram-Moore family during the Foundation's start-up phase.
These costs were reviewed by the independent Trustees and payment was authorised by them.
Mrs. Ingram-Moore has already reminded the many commentators that the £38.9 million raised from Captain Sir Tom’s fundraising was paid directly to NHS Charities Together in 2020.

This just rounds it off nicely. Life coach is a synonym for grifter anyway. And now all the other stuff comes out in the wash. This is like a satire. You couldn’t make this stuff up.

She charges between 1 and nearly 4k I mean obviously if the chemistry is right, I imagine if the money is there then chemistry will be just fine and dandy!
