Qlaira for perimenopause (can start in 30's) and counselling helped me.
Also I found writing a list and then looking at it again when mid cycle helped.

ButImNotOldEnough · 29/06/2023 05:28

Have you been to the doctor? Any irregularities in your cycle? I hit early menopause, started a lot like anxiety, headaches, extreme emotional reactions, extreme anger and feeling like I was losing my sodding mind. I’m only 30 so came as a bloody massive shock, but it’s worth considering. Trying to get treatment for it now but I’m drawing a blank with my doctor atm. If you’ve none of the symptoms then it’s worth getting a checkup with your doctor, avoid the mini pill or combined pill because they can escalate PMT. And don’t let the doctor just brush you off, if this is affecting your life then it is not within the realms of normal and you deserve to be treated for your symptoms.

Odd as it sounds, antacids help with my headaches far more than they’ve helped with my heartburn (and just as an FYI, no one tells you you’ll get morning sickness when menopausal. I thought I was done with that after I finished having kids but apparently not!).

When feeling particularly emotional go somewhere you’re alone and either scream or sing at the top of your lungs even if you feel ridiculous, even if you hate the sound of your singing voice. Few times I’ve done that I’ve found it much easier to continue with my day and not bury anyone under the patio. Has also helped me to not lash out at anyone else when I’m feeling particularly overwhelmed with emotion.

Ask DH to bugger off and give you a night to yourself, sometimes we just need to reset our batteries and be alone Flowers

Google PMDD and journalise symptoms and go to docs..

ThatshallotBaby · 29/06/2023 06:26

Agnus Castas worked for me. Worth a try?

Medusaismyhero · 29/06/2023 06:33

Fluoxetine (Prozac) has helped me immensely. I'm on 40mg daily.

PonkyPonky · 29/06/2023 06:45

Mirena coil and amitriptyline worked for me. I was suffering severe PMS/PMDD before I tried these. It’s not completely cured but I am sane and feel way better most of the time now!

If you're not getting anywhere with your GP then definitely change to one who will listen. My PMT anger and emotion just got worse the older I got and I honestly felt that some months I was going mad. It's so frustrating when you know it isn't 'you' but half of the worry is what if this is you and you always feel like this - you won't but it doesn't feel like it at the time.
In desperation I went to a GP in my early 40s and got diagnosed with PMDD and I've been on a low dose of citalopram ever since - I take 10mg a day and when I feel like braining DH for hanging out the washing wrong, I take another! It's kept me on a emotional even keel but without losing all emotion.
Good luck OP and keep pressing for someone to listen properly

Sertraline has kept me out of prison the past few years.

I'm currently getting treatment for PMDD. I've been given Yasmin and 25mg of Sertraline to start with to see if this improves symptoms.

My gynae has suggested CBT also as she thinks that the fluctuations in hormones exacerbate existing mental health issues (I'm not sure if I'm ready to pursue this avenue yet though).

If it helps, I'm 26. It has gotten worse since having my DS. Hopefully this helps in some way. It might be worth pushing for a gynae appointment if you haven't already 💐

This was me about 18 months ago. I was losing 2-3 weeks every month to feeling exactly like you describe. My GP gave me a choice of trying anti-depressants or the pill. I opted to try the pill first and it took two goes to find one that suits me but it has levelled me out enormously. I take packs back to back and only stop when I have break through bleeding. Definitely speak to your GP - I was impressed with how seriously and sensitively they treated my problem. Good luck and I hope you find a solution that works for you soon.
