To ask adults to eat of IKEA kalas children's plates?

Having a family party, about 20 adults coming plus children.

I'm getting extra Kalas plastic IKEA plates for the kids as they're good value and will either be used again by us for birthdays etc or can be easily passed on to others.

I don't have anywhere near 20 adult plates. There's a place near me that rents sets but it's not got any availability. Picnic plates etc are all pretty expensive if I want 20.

Nice paper plates are all about 23cm diameter, with quite a bit of rim. The IKEA plates are 19 cm diameter but no rim so actually probably the same space for food on them.

AIBU if I just get a big load of the IKEA children's plates so everyone eats off them?

YABU - you should get paper plates for adults
YANBU - plastic IKEA kids plates all round!

They look great and if eating standing up the high sides will stop food slipping off. I hate paper plates at parties as so easy to lose your food of the edge. Makes me nervous to eat😕

@HorseyMel 'Don't be so sensitive'.
Nope, I wasn't.
I, along with others said your comment was nasty. Which it was.

We do this all the time when we have large BBQs etc (as we have about 50 of those plates from a past large kids party) - wouldn’t do it for a sit down dinner but think it’s fine otherwise.

They’ll be fine. But if you can stretch to it I’d get the cheap IKEA china plates instead. They have some for 75p each, so £15 for 20.

would be totally fine but if you wanted bigger plates sainsburys do the picnic style plastic plates in packs of 4 for £2 per pack!

I have twenty of these now! Thanks so much for the suggestion.

Amazing! I’m glad to have helped! I was quite pleased when I found them too! At first I thought it was £2 a plate and as son as I realised it was a 4 pack a few were added to the basket!

It will likely to cheaper to buy new from Ikea. Plus the plates aren't "contaminated" with the smell of old people's homes or whatever

Fuck me. Is this a genuine comment?

As a guest , I would just be happy I’m being fed- and I HATE paper plates. They’re not sturdy enough.
I would also think you’re doing the environment a favour.
As the host, I would probably still go with paper plates, to save on washing up. I know that’s not eco friendly of me, or thinking of my guests but 😅🙃

Indeed.
If your plates are ‘contaminated’ and smell, I would suggest you wash them better. How rude.
