To go home

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and have generally been fine (had some evening morning sickness in first trimester, but little since 15 weeks). Over the weekend I've been feeling really unwell, physically sore all over and very lethargic. This morning at work, I was suddenly overcome with nausea whilst sitting at my desk and I'm currently lying on the floor of the disabled toilet as it's the only thing that makes the nausea and faintness go away. I've only ever called in sick twice in nearly four years (bereavement and suspected miscarriage early in this pregnancy).

My AIBU is firstly should I go home, and secondly is this to be expected at this point in pregnancy or should I be contacting my doctor? Midwife is shocking (still haven't met her and she doesn't answer her phone) so not sure who to ask for advice.

Call your doctor/111 (why haven’t you had a midwife appointment yet?).
Let your colleagues/boss know you are feeling ill - sitting in the break room next to a fan and someone keeping an eye out for you must be better than sitting on the floor of the lav.

DustyLee123 · 19/06/2023 09:14

You need to ring the GP, and yes go home.

AgentProvocateur · 19/06/2023 09:14

You’re lying on the floor of the disabled toilet and you’re asking if you should go home? of course you should.

DustyLee123 · 19/06/2023 09:14

Try and get something sugary down you, and sip water

Busybeezs · 19/06/2023 09:17

Sorry, I should have clarified, I've seen a midwife but just duty midwives - my assigned midwife is always on holiday. I'm moving surgeries soon so should have a new one.
My entire team are wfh today so nobody I can sit with as such. Definitely can't sit in the break room as whole room spins when I sit up. Sipping water makes me feel worse, I tried that at my desk and felt like I was going to pass out

Do you drive to work? It sounds like you need someone to pick you up and take you home.

YellowHatt · 19/06/2023 09:22

Yes of course you need to go home. You can’t work from the floor of the toilets, you obviously feel awful.

Call the midwives anyway, just not your own one. On your paperwork there will be numbers for various departments.

Luckily I got dropped in today so don't have thr car, I don't live too far from home so I could get a cab but the idea of getting in a car is making me feel sick. I feel so dramatic lying on the floor but I genuinely can't think of anything else to do

You need to find a way to go home. Doesn’t sound like you’re in a position to drive.
And yes, contact your doctor. Not a normal part of pregnancy at this stage, but also probably not anything pregnancy related, most likely a general illness. But always best to check and stay hydrated, and be monitored if anything too bad.

YellowHatt · 19/06/2023 09:23

Does anyone know you’re there? If not then tell someone irl asap.

Nevermind31 · 19/06/2023 09:25

I spent considerable time on the floor in the disabled toilet - feeling sick, being sick, being sooo tired. It got better around 16 weeks. This was before hybrid working and all that, so couldn’t work from home or go home every day.

Okay, what's your point? This is later in pregnancy and as I explained, I've not had morning sickness since 15 weeks.

I think she was just trying to show solidarity rather than make a point.

It sounds horrible and you do need to get home somehow, can anyone pick you up?

HippyChickMama · 19/06/2023 09:37

It could be vertigo, which may or may not be related to pregnancy or you could have low blood pressure which can be pregnancy related. If you are unable to get a GP appointment, do you have a walk in centre or urgent care centre that you can get someone to take you to? If it's vertigo, they can prescribe Prochlorperazine, which is safe in pregnancy

HerculesMulligan · 19/06/2023 09:37

I agree with other posters - this change to the way you're feeling is definitely worth speaking to your GP or a midwife asap.

Busybeezs · 19/06/2023 09:39

Apologies for being prickly, it's really shaken me that I literally don't feel able to get up from the floor. I can definitely get a taxi home safely and will call the midwife team and apeak to a duty mideife or go walk in, I'm worried its either low BP which was an issue in early pregnancy or a UTI as just noticed I have some symptoms. Apologies again. Thanks fir advice

BPDprincess · 19/06/2023 09:41

Please call someone and get them to come over to you asap so they can help you get up and get home.

If you really can't get up then please call 111 immediately.

Needmorelego · 19/06/2023 09:42

There must be someone else in the building even if your team isn’t there. Please call security/someone from another team to help you out the toilet as you are dizzy.

Hoppinggreen · 19/06/2023 09:42

You are pregnant, worried and ill, perfectly entitled to be prickly
Look after yourself x

Timeforabiscuit · 19/06/2023 09:45

Does your work have a reception or first aider? Call them now to get you more comfortable.

If not, do you have a friend or partner local to you to get you?

You don't sound dramatic, you do sound scared, it's fine to reach out to people to help you, don't try and warrior queen it by yourself.

ODFODeary · 19/06/2023 09:52

Oh darling , ring someone now to come and get you, you shouldn't be on your own
Forget work, it's not important at the moment but you do need to get home and rest up

ThreeB · 19/06/2023 09:58

There should be an emergency call button in the toilets, please use this and get someone with you. You are not unreasonable to go home but right now you aren't safe to go home.

Scottishskifun · 19/06/2023 10:00

Of course you should go home your not well pregnancy or not!
Get yourself home and call the GP, if you have a covid test at home would do one of those too as some of the symptoms match and in pregnancy it's important to identify if it is as you may need injections for a week or so.

If it turns out to be low BP (I had very low BP through both pregnancies) then make sure you remain very hydrated and have a emergency packet of crisps or salty peanuts with you as the salt can increase your BP. Clenching your bum cheeks and fists if feeling very dizzy can stop you fainting.

FairAcre · 19/06/2023 10:33

How are you OP? Are you drinking plenty of water? It is easy to get dehydrated in this heat. I felt sick and lightheaded this weekend and I am not pregnant.

gamerchick · 19/06/2023 10:37

Yes you should go home.

There's also a bloody strange lurgy going about as well. Makes you feel queasy, vertigo and achy. I've struggled all weekend feeling heavy and dizzy. Having to lie down just to try make it stop. Seems to be tailing off a bit but the floor still feels like it's moving slightly. I'm not pregnant.

Go home OP.
