To be upset that DH bought DS's birthday gift early

Our DS will be 2 in August. He is obsessed with bikes whenever he sees one, so we thought it would be a great idea to get him a balance bike as a birthday gift. I also wanted to get him a helmet at the same time so he knows from the beginning that you ride only with the helmet on.
This morning DH took DS to the shop, let him try on different bikes and just got him one while they were there, so obviously it's no surprise now and he is using it already.

AIBU to be upset about this? I was really looking forward to do it as a birthday surprise and seeing his reaction and do the unpacking and first rides together.

It actually didn’t, he pranked her. Not that you could possibly no the truth either way if she’s lying.

I hope the two of you are accustomed to such pranks because that would have irritated me to no end.

I do think now would be a better time to give that gift (while he is still obsessed and in most places this is bike riding season) but it needs to be done together - and yes, with the helmet.

I’d have him go back without DS and bring it back and surprise him together that he gets to keep it, because the excitement is definitely something you should both be a part of!

You both sound so immature if this stuff is amusing. Your poor bike crazy ds must have felt awful.
