AIBU to worry that there are no insects in my house tonight?

The windows have been open all day and this evening; the lights are on, but there is not a single moth or buzzing creature in my house at all.

We've still not mowed after 'no mow May' so there are lots of flowers everywhere, but only a few bees.

Has anyone else found this?

We have loads of fruit flies in the kitchen if I leave the door open, they are driving me crazy!

Hate to sound stupid, but why the worry? What does it mean if less bugs?

Because bugs are often pollinators and play a vital role in our food chain and they're also food for birds and wild animals, whose populations will collapse without them. These birds and animals also play their roles in nature so their disappearance will, in turn, effect other wild birds/animals and also wild habitats. Everything has a knock on effect in nature.

I live in the countryside - mixed farm area, dairy, sheep, some crops. But many of the fields are weedkilled at least once a year. The whole field, then ploughed then seeded with often just grass, which is grown cropped stored for winter feed then the process starts again. So no wildflowers get a chance.
I can't understand why it is allowed so freely. Surely tons of weedkiller wafting in the air is bad for everyone let alone the insects.

Totally agree. I think thats our problem here in NI. Weedkiller and pesticides which I think build up in the environment and doesn't break down. Its constantly repeated on 99% of the land. Crazy and storing up a whole load of trouble

Pleased to count 9 ladybirds on one rosebush yesterday after not having seen any so far this year! Also there are grasshoppers in our No Mow All Summer lawn.

Agree on pesticides and weed killer. Read George Monbiot’s “Regeneration” - first chapter is all about healthy soil and how a lot of industrial farm practices kill it. Also can’t believe how freely available they are to the public - was driving past a lady happily spraying a RoundUp bottle around the edges of her garden walk the other day - so any weeds/ wildflowers would have no chance.

Silent Spring is the classic of course. Just as scary today because although DDT was banned, the rest wasn’t.

We've got loads. I hate it. The cat enjoys chasing them so she's happy.

Strangely I'm pleased to report that our bugs have returned to our house! Loads of them and as unpleasant as it can be......I feel relieved!

been having workmen in the house all week so front door been open a lot. Several flies during the day found their way in but couldn’t seem to get out (annoying). Loads of bees in garden and one got stuck in my hair whilst I was watering the flowers which was unpleasant. Warm evenings have meant windows open - several moths in bedroom.
