To send a picture of my pubic region to the surgeon who did my c section?

I work in an industry where we craft things and then sometimes don’t ever see them develop. I love it when a client sends a photo.

Am a year on from my C and honestly so impressed with it. My surgeon was like da Vinci with a thread and needle. It is absolutely perfect and I want to send my thanks.

Any surgeons out there? Would you like to see your handiwork again or is this totally bizarre and you don’t want random pictures of peoples pubis region! 🤣

YANBU - send the pube pic
YABU - no one wants to see that

Not a c section, but episiotomy, I was lying there legs akimbo with someone just finishing stitching me up, another HCP walked by (I was in theatre not the corridor) and said "ooh well done that's lovely straight neat stitching", the person doing it said yeah I have OCD and I have to get them just perfect...
It was a bit odd, but very reassuring! My scar is now absolutely straight, very fine and not a bunb or wiggle in sight. I'm very pleased I had the person I did! (I have no idea if she was a nurse, doctor, surgeon, everything was a bit blurry by that point) .
I don't think I can send in a picture of that though.
I think if you do send a little of your scar, also send a note thanking them for their care, attention and delivering your baby safely, maybe a picture of your baby too.

My hyster3ctomy scar is the least obvious and best healed of all my scars.

despite the fact I got a wound infection, which had to be drained , left with an open wound that led to sepsis and discharged pus for six weeks.

it is so faint you can hardly see it! Maybe that area just heals well?

ThoseClementineShoes · 13/06/2023 23:13

To be clear OP I meant the card for the office wall! Don’t worry, no one’s going to put your bits up!

Wicksytricksy · 13/06/2023 23:15

Surgeon doing my second C-section: "I'll just tidy the old scar up as it was a bit of a mess"
Me: "you did the last one"
Him: "oh"
Then a different Doctor offered to shove some drugs up my bum so that ended that awkward chat.

hellololabells2019 · 13/06/2023 23:15

I want to see a picture. I've had three sections and can safely say my stomach doesn't look like a work of art!

olympicsrock · 13/06/2023 23:15

Surgeon here. A card would be well received . I’m always delighted to see great wounds in clinic when I follow patients up. A photo of this area would be wierd.
By the way the quality of the wound is at least 50 % related to patient factors. If you are healthy and slim without diabetes you can thank yourself…

welshweasel · 13/06/2023 23:18

Another surgeon here. Send a thank you card, tell them you admire their sewing skills. Please don't send a photo!

We rarely get to follow our patients up these days so I do love to hear how people are getting on.

Mirabai · 13/06/2023 23:21

It would be a bit like a gynae dick pic no? But I’m sure a card would be appreciated.

LunaNorth · 13/06/2023 23:24

After two emergency c-sections, my stomach looks like a work of art, too.

Guernica.

CheesesandWines · 13/06/2023 23:26

Yeah don't send a picture. It's really weird. Will just have to be deleted. Write a thank you to surgeon or PALS

azimuth299 · 13/06/2023 23:28

I think it would be lovely to send a thank you note, but not a picture!

Have to say as a lawyer it's always nice to hear drugs up the bum chat that ended well 😁

Haha this thread has really made me chuckle. Thank you all 🤣

I'm frankly very envious. My scar (from 2 sections) looks like the surgeon used a hacksaw. Second one didn't heal well, got infected and I've got horrific scar tissue inside and outside which causes horrendous pain at times. However being diabetic, it's par for the course.

DH had an inguinal hernia repair done on Monday and his wound looks amazing. They made such a neat job of the stitching.

WunWun · 14/06/2023 10:52

My scar has looked awful from the start. Sewn up badly so it overhangs on one side and there's a bit I can't feel.

Maybe I should try to track him down to complain with a photo, 12 years later 😁

perenniallymessy · 14/06/2023 10:52

I also have a very lovely CS scar. It's so neat and tidy, there has never been any sort of overhang and it healed so quickly. Eleven years later you can barely see it.

When I had a midwife check it at two weeks, she enthused about how neat the stitching was - "oh I can tell that Judith stitched you up, your scar is beautiful".

WunWun · 14/06/2023 10:57

I need to stop reading this thread 😥😂

Scirocco · 14/06/2023 10:59

Whatever happened to sending a thank you card and a box of nice biscuits?

Wishitsnows · 14/06/2023 11:03

I get what you mean Op. I’m delighted with mine. I don’t even have a visible scar. After 10 years I just couldn’t see it anymore! I was at the docs for another examination and she was really surprised it was no longer visible. Surgeon must have done a great job!

TomatoSandwiches · 14/06/2023 11:10

I sent a thank you note to the Anesthesiologist for my second section, I had 6 attempts at a spinal with my first before having a GA but this one got it in perfectly 1st time and was so charming during it all I kept going on and on about how brilliant he was 😂

Teadottie · 14/06/2023 11:18

Definitely send a thank you card and mention that you're pleased with how neatly its healed. Of course the most important part of a C section is keeping you and baby safe, but a lot of doctors I have worked alongside do take pride (in all surgeries) to try and make the stitches and ergo subsequent scar as neat as possible for the patient (which is successful to various degrees). The little comments and thanks make a difference.

Porridgeislife · 14/06/2023 11:28

Definitely send a thank you card but a photo is a little weird!

My midwife said at my day 5 check “oh you’ll have no issue in a bikini with that incision, haven’t seen one that low before”. I’m not sure if they went that low due to previous gynae surgery or to preserve my vanity, but she was right.

workemails · 14/06/2023 11:47

Where would you send it? Like would you print it out and post it to him or do you have his number? I just cant imagine the scenario. I have had 2 C sections, done by the same DR (only knew from the forms afterwards) and I don't remember the surgeons name or what he looked like, let along contact details.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 14/06/2023 11:48

A surgeon would love this.

Rooroobear · 14/06/2023 11:50

I feel you op!! I’ve had two sections and they are beautiful. I’m so impressed. To look at it you would just think it was one scar…..it starts and ends as two but the majority of it looks like one. Whoever did my second section made an amazing job of keeping them close together ❤️
