AIBU to name and shame BEKO?

I’ve had about enough of planned obsolescence. It seems everything these days it built to last a year or two, then fail as soon as the pitiful warrantee expires.

Our Beko tumble dryer has just failed a week out of warranty. The local white goods shop looked at it and said it’s the compressor so it’ll cost less to just buy a new one.
Phoned Beko and pointed out that it has suspiciously failed just after the warranty and they told us to just buy a new one.

This is the third Beko appliance we’ve had that has done this RIGHT after the warranty expires. (The washing machine came with the house, we foolishly bought another Beko one and my mum bought us this dryer).

I’m so incredibly exhausted this week trying to keep up with everything and having these expensive things break constantly when we’re barely making ends meet as it is is exhausting!

(note: used to just hang stuff on the line but when I had my DD things got hectic and the line got in the way)

There is an old saying, but very true. "Buy cheap, buy twice."

It would be cheaper in the long run to get a more reliable and expensive make. But of course you have to find the money.

x2boys · 13/06/2023 11:24

Yanbu,I have had similar problems with Beko, washing machines.

SunnySaturdayMorning · 13/06/2023 11:25

YABU. If it keeps happening, why would you expect any different?

You just sound paranoid tbh 🤷‍♀️

Growlybear83 · 13/06/2023 11:27

Perhaps you've been unlucky. I've had several Beko appliances, and have found them to be very reliable so far. I'm also a great fan of Indesit, which lots of people seem to have problems with.

Chermeup · 13/06/2023 11:49

I had few beko things and they lasted well.
Agree with pp you are quite unlucky!

There is an argument abour reasonable time it should last. Look it up on Money saving expert

writingworry · 13/06/2023 11:52

It's funny you say that because my Beko fridge has lasted 8 years
Which is longer than any of my other appliances which all went out of date and then broke!! It was cheaper then any other appliance but has lasted so so well

maranella · 13/06/2023 11:53

Unfortunately, you really do get what you pay for. Beko is a bargain basement brand and it's products perform accordingly. In terms of tumble dryers, I have a Bosch, which is okay, but it always rolls duvet covers up into a ball, which drives me mad. My old Miele, which lasted 8 years, never did that. The compressor went on that though eventually.

And it is a fantastic saying, but if you can only afford cheap?

Sorry to hear but think it's hugely variable and dependent on product. I bought a BEKO fridge freezer for the garage as they're one of the few that make them robust enough to go outside. It's been brilliant for years of constant thermal cycling so can't complain.

I had this kind of thing with a Delonghi kettle, which cost a small fortune. Also a Dualit coffee machine. However, their classic toaster (£200) has been bombproof and is still going strong after 12 years.

It really is a minefield.

Which sadly isn't always true. It's definitely the case with some things but not all, and it's difficult to navigate.

For example Skoda is the cheapest of the VAG brands but consistently more reliable than Audi.

Miele costs a fortune but produce rock solid products. Fisher and Paykel also cost a fortune but isn't in the same league.

Ohwowza · 13/06/2023 12:07

I've got a Beko washing machine and fridge freezer, they've been going strong since 2013!

Maybe I've just been lucky.

Jinxed it now!

Yeah because parts of x brands are actually sometimes expensive Y brand. It's worth to look at that.

YANBU We have just had a Beko dishwasher that lasted only 2 years. Something in the computer panel went wrong, we were told it was cheaper to buy a new one. We upgraded to a Westinghouse last week.

fishingfor · 13/06/2023 12:41

Contact the Consumer Line, or Citizens Advice. You should be able expect an appliance to last for a reasonable length of time. That is your consumer rights.

Van34 · 13/06/2023 12:45

We had Beko everything so it matched. The washer is OK but has had to have parts replaced (by DH). The dishwasher was awful and got renamed the miss washer because it used to miss half the load. We bought a before fridge that was not cheap. Bloody thing started leaking refrigerant gas, no wonder I had a constant headache. By the time we noticed it was out of warranty

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 13/06/2023 12:47

YANBU. I had a beko washing machine lasted two years and broke.
Never again, stick to Hotpoint now.

This. Beko have always had a reputation for cheap rubbish.

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/06/2023 12:49

I think Beko is regarded in the same way as Skoda and Kia used to be. Now those are fairly premium brands. We have a Beko dishwasher, because the integrated Zanussi that came with the house, failed after a couple of years. There were two integrated brands to choose from and Miele was more than twice as much as Beko.

LillyoftheMountain · 13/06/2023 13:06

I had a Biko washer once. Never again. LG is as low as I’ll go now!

hedgehoglurker · 13/06/2023 13:08

I've had many Beko appliances and all lasted well. My condenser dryer ran well for about 7 years with very heavy usage. I replaced it with a Samsung heat pump though, when I found it was drying at too high a temperature.

roseopose · 13/06/2023 13:14

We had similar with a hoover washing machine, I was told by AO that after 18 months use I could expect the item to start failing and need to be replaced! The environmental impact of that alone is horrific let alone the cost and inconvenience of having to replace a large appliance like a washing machine.

FlamingoQueen · 13/06/2023 13:17

I’d maybe try Beko twice, but would never go back a third time if that happened to me. Just try another company. There are still other brands out there / offers to try.

LookItsMeAgain · 13/06/2023 13:22

This might help you:

Alleycat1 · 13/06/2023 13:22

My original BEKO fridge freezer lasted for years and was passed on to a friend when we moved 6 years ago. It still functions. Our replacement BEKO fridge freezer lasted 2 months longer than the guarantee. Such a shame as I really like the interior layout of the fridge and the large freezer drawers.
