Anyone know what's happening?

3 people have been found dead in the streets and a van attempted to run over 3 people, who are now in hospital.

A 31yo man has been arrested and is in police custody

Oh my goodness, I read about the 3 deceased but not about the running over. I wonder if this is a terrorist arrack.

thedogisstaring · 13/06/2023 10:13

Exactly @MimiSunshine , well said.

the80sweregreat · 13/06/2023 10:16

Maybe the police have to contact the families first before releasing any statements? They must have a protocol to follow

Betsybee88 · 13/06/2023 10:17

I live just off Mansfield road but Arnold end from about 4.45 up until I took my kids to school there was a constant stream of sirens.
I still don't know what's going on but I know the amount of sirens I heard is abnormal (we do hear a lot) esp for that time of day.

MimiSunshine · 13/06/2023 10:09

Can you not fathom that there are processes, family to inform first and possible keeping things cloaked while trying to gather intel / possibly arrest others who are still in play etc

before they put updates out on Twitter? How about people just don’t speculate and let the authorities do their job.

Humans don't do their job properly and authorities are well known for the noble lie.

There's a huge military exercise at the moment we are involved with. People want information to stay safe because unlike you I assume, life experience taught them not to trust.

AtomicBlondeRose · 13/06/2023 10:20

@MimiSunshine Of course I know there are protocols to follow, hence my idea of them saying one sentence that gives a general inkling of what is happening. The total absence of ANY information AT ALL is what causes the speculation. If they don't want people to speculate - totally understandable and predictable human behaviour - they should release a small amount of info to the public. Their choice not to. But people will speculate and you absolutely cannot ever stop it no matter how much people tut and get annoyed with others online.

EdithWeston · 13/06/2023 10:20

Based on statement from Chief Constable Kate Meynell:

  • three incidents
  • police believe them to be linked
  • suspect arrested
  • location A - two people found dead on the street v early morning
  • location B - van ran down three people - all of whom are currently in hospital
  • location C - further attack, one fatality
  • extensive cordons in place, and trams not running, stay away from area for the foreseeable
  • investigations will take some time.

The Magdala Road stabbing happened a few streets away from where I live. So scary. Many roads closed off, still trying to get hold of DH who would normally go that way to work.

The Notts police statement was a good hour ago.

The person arrested is a 31 years old man

Oh my goodness, must be so scary when it's that close to home. Did you hear anything?

Nobody was speculating the victims of perpetrator. As you say they just wanted a little information to stay safe and it is a normal human reaction.

No doubt the thread police are the same woke sort who are currency trying to shut off any safeguarding in society.

I'm trying to follow your logic here, but I don't think there is any. 'Thread police'? 'Woke sort'? Shut off 'safeguarding in society'? You've clearly got an agenda that you think might be served here.

But they have given you information. They've told you there's a major incident, there are large cordons in place. What more do you NEED to know rather than WANT to know?

If there was a wider risk that you NEEDED to know they would have said.
It says on the their statement if you are worried about family or friends you can phone the number.

Ah blocking safeguarding around observing crime stats? If someone noted local crimes they are a bad person.

If you make a normal human reaction of being wary around the new breed of bull dogs and the numbers of victims, then you can't be safeguarding, you must hate dogs for no reason.

Safeguarding reactions are the insane behaviour, those blocking safeguarding are the sane ones. Name calling next - phobia - an irrational fear. Phobia like 'woman' or 'bigot', 'vulnerable ', 'safeguarding' are words that are now empty of meaning, prior meanings of the words gone and distorted to destabilise society to mean anything to anyone - like the Tower of Bable. It does not work, it just looks like a saboteur bully tactic to me.

pickledandpuzzled · 13/06/2023 11:25

When there are multiple scenes, multiple victims and multiple causes of death I think it's fair enough the police take time to investigate before publishing potentially inaccurate information.

They may have thought it a domestic, then a gang incident, then a terrorism one...

Depending when they started making announcements the information could have constantly changed and contradicted itself.

And as has been really evident recently, no matter little or how much the police share, people speculate forcing the police to make further updates.

People just don't stop because they've been given information. They always want more.

Usual overwrought transphobic bs. 0.5 pc of the population are going to overwhelm and annihilate us. Straight out of the usual suspects rw bigots playbook. The irony.

I am in absolute awe of the victims’ families speaking today. Such dignity and courage.

LadyEloise1 · 16/06/2023 18:10

Absolutely tragic for the families and friends of those murdered.
How brave the families of Grace O' Malley Kumar and Barnaby Webber were were coming together like that.
Deepest sympathy to them and the family and friends of Ian Coates.
For those injured it is horrendous.

I hope previous posters who had relatives living or working there have found their relatives safe and well.
