Daughter has been crying tonight saying her neck hurts. Just checked and she has two big water blisters there. They weren't there at bed time. What could have caused them to come up?

She always wears sun cream and hasn't got sunburnt. We did have fleas in the house recently (thanks Dcat!) but have had exterminators in since and haven't noticed any bites on her.

She's crying that they really hurt but unsure how to treat as not sure what the cause is. Have attached a pic for reference. The bottom one with the redness is the one that just popped when she took her tshirt off to show me. The top one is on her hair line

Can anyone help with what this is?

Chicken pox. Look for more coming up rapidly.

statetrooperstacey · 12/06/2023 21:07

How old is she , could she have been trying out your hair straighteners ? Could she have had some plant/tree sap on her ?

thaegumathteth · 12/06/2023 21:07

Chicken pox?

Try an antihistamine in case it's an allergy.

Take it she can't have lay on anything eg a charging wire or something

red78hot · 12/06/2023 21:08

Mozzie bites maybe? My mum had a horrendous one in Germany, it had to be popped in a hospital.

awambamalooma · 12/06/2023 21:09

Can't be chicken pox as she only had it a couple of months ago. Hasn't had anything new that I can think of or been near any hot items like straighteners. I'm panicking now incase it's a reaction or something that I'm missing

Looks like 🐥pox

awambamalooma · 12/06/2023 21:10

Also forgot to mention she is 5 so not left on her own to try anything new etc

Maybe a friction burn? Does she carry a bag or had a hat on in the sun today with a fastening in that area?

Whenwillitallmakesense · 12/06/2023 21:10

Phone 111?

Franknotfrancis · 12/06/2023 21:13

Was her hair up earlier? Has she been anywhere outdoors where something like giant hogweed is about? Either way bathe it in tepid water and pop something cold on it. Speak to dr or pharmacist before smearing any creams or lotions on . A dose of piriton is always a good idea in these situations.

OhWifey · 12/06/2023 21:15

Does she have a cold that you've used Olbas oil for? That can burn

awambamalooma · 12/06/2023 21:19

Not used anything new on her skin. We did go to her grandparents yesterday where she was playing in the garden lots but that isn't something she hasn't done before and we've never had this. She's been at school today with a school dress and sun cream on and I can't see any type of burn. She's also had her hair tied up all day.

Is it itchy? And if it is, did it hurt before it was scratched?

Any verrucas?

awambamalooma · 12/06/2023 21:23

@ginoclocksomewhere not itchy but just sore she says. No veruccas that I can see

Looks nothing like chicken pox!

could she have rubbed her neck on a seatbelt or similar? Looks a bit like a friction burn

Juiceboxxy · 12/06/2023 21:41

Sun burn? She may have sweated the sun cream off at school. It's very red around the burst blister. Is it hot to touch?

parietal · 12/06/2023 21:43

there is a plant called euphorbia which is common in gardens and grows big at this time of year. the sap can cause blisters. could she have been playing / hiding under plants in the garden and got sap on her?

SarahDippity · 12/06/2023 21:45

Insect bite (or 🕷️)? Was she playing in a garden/forest?

wildinthecountry · 12/06/2023 21:45

statetrooperstacey · 12/06/2023 21:07

That's what it looks like to be possibly curling tongs .

Seas164 · 12/06/2023 21:46

Where was she when you were cooking OP, could it be a spash of pasta water or similar?

averythinline · 12/06/2023 21:48

Looks like an inflamed insect bite to me…second an anti histamine -piriton type I find more effective on insect bites…. Cool flannel just to make it feel more comfortable maybe draw a line round it in felt tip/sharpie just to check if it gets infected

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 12/06/2023 21:51

It could be any type of bite.

It does look like a burn though. Something that's gone straight on to the skin.

As others said - hair straighteners?

Calpol and Sudocrem I should think for tonight, but obviously I'm not medically trained. Cold compress?

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 12/06/2023 21:53

Looked again. Long one definitely looks like a burn.

bobuka · 12/06/2023 21:59

I think bite. Is it red because she's been scratching? Maybe she has rubbed the skin making it look like a blister mark ?
