I think it’s to do with the fact that the price of wood rocketed a while back. They said then that the price of paper and loo roll etc would rise.

melj1213 · 11/06/2023 21:28

Because it's a luxury and not a necessity?

toomuchfaster · 11/06/2023 21:29

Or a dish cloth? I hardly ever use it but DH likes it for cleaning windows.

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 11/06/2023 21:29

You don't need kitchen roll. Use a cloth.

SiobahnRoy · 11/06/2023 21:29

Just don’t buy it!

TurquoiseDress · 11/06/2023 21:31

YANBU!

Not only is it hugely more expensive, most of it is utter rubbish falling to bits...the quality has gone down massively while the price has shot up!

Going to give up my quest for discovering some decent kitchen roll Grin

UndercoverCop · 11/06/2023 21:33

Regina Blitz is the only kitchen roll worth buying and is now only afforded by Scrooge McDuck

Gunpowder · 11/06/2023 21:37

YANBU. It was £6 for two normal mingy rolls in coop the other day. Obviously I didn’t buy it and let the children use the posh pretty paper napkins I was saving instead as that was cheaper. Anyway, it was a sea change and I’m going back to cloth napkins now and bits of cut up old bath towel for cleaning spills etc.

Changingplace · 11/06/2023 21:38

God knows, I have no idea why people buy it, I just use washable cloths instead.

RedToothBrush · 11/06/2023 21:39

Was doing a shop for an event last week. I have a spreadsheet with last year's prices for the same event.

Kitchen roll was one of the things that had gone up most in price.

The one thing that had decreased in price?

Own brand Rice Crispies.

Fuck know why!

Soproudoflionesses · 11/06/2023 21:41

I agree op it is sooo expensive.
And to pp who say use a dishcloth, l can't use a dishcloth to drain my chips on!! Plus dishcloths need washing a lot so thay can't be good either.

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 11/06/2023 21:41

YANBU.

I use it for my diabetic dc finger pokes, priming his insulin pens on, I go through 2/3 rolls a week.
I'm beginning to wonder if it's secretly made out of gold!

OutDamnedSpot · 11/06/2023 21:27

Not what you asked, but maybe try something like this instead?

Ooh how do these work? Do you wash them all at once and then pop them back on? I'd worry I'd never use the end ones

Lira715 · 11/06/2023 21:43

Was saying this the other day I like the tall rolls so they fit my holder it’s an expensive habit 😂

Skidamarinkadinkadink · 11/06/2023 21:43

I took this photo the other day as I was so horrified that anyone would pay £6.60 for 2 kitchen rolls! Madness!

Why is kitchen roll so bloody expensive?
Jenn3112 · 11/06/2023 21:43

Don't buy it, use fabric cloths and for anything that is genuinely yucky enough, use clean rags and then throw them away.

cocksstrideintheevening · 11/06/2023 21:43

I like Regina Blitz. £5 for one large roll.
I don't like it that much!

hattyhathat · 11/06/2023 21:44

For cooking things yes sometimes you need kitchen towel!

I mean the one next to it is £3.50 so you'd be an absolute mug to pay that much

Hercisback · 11/06/2023 21:45

Use fabric cloths. We use dry cheeky wipes as kitchen roll equivalent. You absolutely can dry chips on them, then put them in the washing machine til the next wash.

storminabuttercup · 11/06/2023 21:45

Check out amazon subscribe and save, often much cheaper

Nsky62 · 11/06/2023 21:45

More people are buying them so they make more money overall off them?

FaintlyMacabre · 11/06/2023 21:46

I cut up and hemmed some old towels and use them for almost everything we used to use kitchen roll for. I wash them about once a week with e cloths and tea towels. They’re horribly stained but I suppose I could bleach them occasionally.
