The think that when spreading marmelade..

.. it is not neccessary cover the handle of the knife with it, and a little on the blade suffices?

I know it's just a little niggle... like putting water in the washing up bowl and letting it go cold with dirty stuff in it... or taking one sock off and stuffing it down the side of the chair cushion... but it's wound me up today to yet again pick up the butter knife and get my hands coated with marmelade.

I never do anything remotely irritating, of course.

why was it still there anyway? he/she/they should have washed it/rinsed it and stacked in dish washer!..you need to put your foot down!

happystory · 21/02/2008 14:56

And why is it impossible to turn off the bathroom light?

(are we talking dcs or dhs here?)

SueBaroo · 21/02/2008 14:56

What dishwasher? That's why there's a sink full of cold greasy water.

Oh, and while I'm having a whinge, when some coffee or chocolate powder is spilled on the work surface.. wipe it up, don't just leave it there to becomne soldered into the formica!!

And stop keeping bank statements in the envelope they came in with all the stupid meaningless leaflets from the bank - file the statements alone and put the rest in the bloody recycling.

And stop asking me where your belt/tie/glasses/keys are. I am not the fount of all knowledge. Put them in the right place and you won't have to flap about like a screaming queen before you leave the house in the morning.

happystory · 21/02/2008 15:02

On the subject of letters, (you're definitely talking dh, I can tell!) is it so hard to throw away the envelopes and any post you don't want and not open it, look at it and spread it the length of the kitchen worktop then LEAVE IT THERE

SueBaroo · 21/02/2008 15:06

oh yes, definitely Dh.

Oh, and when the nappy bin is full, it's time to empty it, not leave little nappybag parcels in a decorative pile next to it.

and when you shave, please just swill some cold water round the bowl so the sink doesn't look like an unfinished dot-to-dot puzzle.

OP posts:
MrsPuddleduck · 21/02/2008 15:09

On the subject of dishwashers - can you please open the door and place the dirty item in the dishwasher as opposed to leaving it on the worksurface directly above.

PanicPants · 21/02/2008 15:10

Oh yes, nappy bag parcels. I am obviously the only one allowed to put those in the bin in our house.

And the need to empty pockets of cash, receipts, mobile, loose change etc and spread that out all over dressing table.

Agree with the post thing

SueBaroo · 21/02/2008 15:12

and stop squeezing your spots and wiping your fingers on the mirrors!!!

OP posts:
Elffriend · 21/02/2008 15:26

LOL.

I see your:

single sock down the side of the cushion thing;
plates above the dishwasher;

and raise you:

chewing/tearing off your finger/toe nails and leaving them in little piles on the floor next to the settee;

moaning about us having to switch to low energy light buls (which are still crap, sorry) then leaving every light/telly in the house blaring away whilst you go out!

Using hankies (hankies FGS) until they practically disintegrate then leave them in nasty sodden clumps next to the aforementioned socks on the settee.

bleurgh.

MrsPuddleduck · 21/02/2008 15:29

I raise you:

"Oh has he done a poo in his nappy? I had't noticed""

Never mind the bloody smell

PanicPants · 21/02/2008 15:31

Leaving the bath full of ds toys when putting ds to bed, so when I get in it for a shower the following morning, half asleep and without contacts in, I fall over and nearly knock myself out.

Never, never rinsing out the kitchen sink so you get the grease and grudge from the pots and pans.

Blurggg at toenails.

MrsPuddleduck · 21/02/2008 15:36

And where is it that they squirrel away hoards of dirty clothes only to dump them all in the washbin in one go? Or is that just my DH?

procrastinatingparent · 21/02/2008 15:43

SB - we are married to the same man. Absolutely no doubt about it. And this bigamist is driving two women crazy with knives and bank statements and LOSING STUFF ALL THE TIME I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE AND WHAT ABOUT ...

Actually it was quite funny the other day when he was shouting for us to find his belt because he was in such a hurry and we must have hidden it somewhere and he was actually wearing it . Oh, the last of that story has not yet been heard in this house, no, no.

Just to confirm this is the same man, does he leave the lid off the tea caddy every time he gets a teabag out?

sagitta · 21/02/2008 15:48

No, no - you're all talking about my DH...is it possible he's married to all of us?

PanicPants · 21/02/2008 15:52

Think they all go to some dp/dh school when about 15 years old to learn how to do all of this so we end up 'looking' after them

sashmum · 21/02/2008 15:53

You are all wrong its my husband you are all talking about!!!

and why can he only put empty packets/milk cartons etc away in the cupboard and not in the bin!!????

sagitta · 21/02/2008 15:54

Is it our fault - as mothers? Will our dcs be as bad for their DWs?

SueBaroo · 21/02/2008 15:59

pp, lid off the tea caddy, the sugar and the coffee jar.. all in a cluster on the work surface next to the sticky butter knife.

And he always says about the greasy bowl of water thing that he's 'leaving it in soak'. Because it really helps to soak frying pan in cold greasy water.

OP posts:
SueBaroo · 21/02/2008 16:01

sagitta, I'm quite certain that these vexations have been and will be passed down throughout generations until the end of all things. 'tis the nature of living with human beings that we get right on each others tits.

OP posts:
Elffriend · 21/02/2008 16:02

So is it unreasonable to expect this bloke (now that we have relaised it IS the same bloke)to actually LOOK when he has lost something?

DH: Where are the tablets/papers/socks/brain cells?

Me: In the same cupboard they are always kept.
DH: No they're not, I looked.
Me: . Here.
DH: where were they?
Me: In the exact place I said they would be.
DH: Well they can't have been.
Me:

procrastinatingparent · 21/02/2008 16:12

What is this soaking thing? I don't get it, I really don't. Can't be b***ed to wash it up, is the real answer.

When he's at your house, does he take his shoes off every time he sits down and then just leaves them there? And then can't find them later, and accuses you of taking them? (Yeah, sweetheart, I wear your size 11 boots round the house all the time.)

Elffriend: no one in house can find anything. Ever. Except me. Which is great if I want to hide anything because I just leave it where it usually lives, in full view, but 10 inches to one side. They never see it.

discoverlife · 21/02/2008 16:16

Well some of you could be married to my DH, the younger ones must be married to my eldest DS (22yo) because they all do it.

I raise you one more....ODD SOCKS. Why can't they ALL go in the wash basket at the same time?

Why do they insist that they always do flush the toilet when you have just caught them walking out of the bathroom and no sound of running/flushing water. On the same note, why can't they flush last thing at night so you arn't faces with dark yellow oily scum in your loo, which you have to fush and brush before you can sit down and your BURSTING for a pee.

discoverlife · 21/02/2008 16:17

flush that sounded rude.

chrissnow · 21/02/2008 16:40

You're not all married to the same man. You're all married to . . . .me!!

Odd socks - guilty (I don't know how it happens, honestly. I put them in the wash basket together. Only one comes out the machine and its partner has magically walked back to the wash basket)
Leaving stuff in to soak - guilty. What actually happens there is I start to do it, get distracted by fighting/pooing/hungry etc children then forget for 2 hours, come back to cold greasy water that I cannot bear to put my hands in (bleugh). DH sorts it when I go to work at night
Losing things - ah NOT guilty your honour. I am at least cheif finder in our house. Mind you judging by my slatternly behaviour, it probably was lost in the first place.
I am crap

onepieceoflollipop · 21/02/2008 16:46

emoticon for discoverlife!

Old tissues in pockets, up sleeves etc, they don't tend to wash well. I washed a squash ball last week - dh accused me of putting it in the washing machine - no, but I don't think it is MY job to empty everyone's pockets
