To want to drink soy sauce?

Pastaf0rbreakfast · 08/06/2023 13:33

Okay so I’m not actually going to drink it but I am 5 weeks pregnant, feeling nauseous and having some serious food aversions, the only thing I fancy is soy sauce - but what can I have it with?? I tried with some noodles for lunch but the noodles made me feel quite sick. What can I use as a carrier for the soy sauce?

Vanilla ice cream.

SoloMamabyChoice · 08/06/2023 13:34

literally anything? Rice, crackers, eggs, spinach, etc

Blinkingmarvellous · 08/06/2023 13:36

I'd suggest getting sachets of miso soup and having it with plain crackers. It's the same flavour but more suitable for drinking

Cravings r crazy eh ! I’m pregnant with my second. I had no food cravings with my 1st n none with my second but grossly want to smell cigarette smoke. I don’t smoke, I’ve never smoked or lived with smokers. Bizarre.

try soy sauce just on rice noodles ! It’s really good.

Sushi - not the raw fish version obviously

17caterpillars1mouse · 08/06/2023 13:37

Or as a dip for ready salted crisps

cavebaby · 08/06/2023 13:38

It's just a salty seasoning really so you can have it with anything you fancy. Perhaps white or sticky rice? Maybe it's the salt you are craving, I used to eat a bag of ready salted crisps for breakfast in the first trimester to get me through my commute :)

fried egg rice with soy sauce

MichelleScarn · 08/06/2023 13:38

I mixed it with warm butter and had it on toast! 😆 hidden secret till now!

Junebughustle · 08/06/2023 13:38

I love just plain white rice with soy sauce. Has to be nicely cooked basmati!

MichelleScarn · 08/06/2023 13:39

And agree due to salt craving, has horrific hyperemesis.

Noorandapples · 08/06/2023 13:39

Have it on cucumber sticks, they're plain enough to carry the taste. Also echoing getting miso soup packets, little box in tesco in the world food section, just a paste you add hot water to.

Diorinthecountry · 08/06/2023 13:39

Live on the wild side and just drink it.

CaloundraBlues · 08/06/2023 13:39

I bought some chicken gyoza at the weekend and had them saturated with soy sauce, also like it liberally drizzled on home made chicken fried rice

DrHix · 08/06/2023 13:40

Chips

Yamaya · 08/06/2023 13:44

Rice?

Busybeezs · 08/06/2023 13:45

I had this! I'm 21 weeks now and cravings have disappeared but I relied on steamed broccoli nd carrots drowned in soy sauce and very marmite-y toast.

Don't do this 🙄

AffIt · 08/06/2023 14:04

Green veg - broccoli, pak choi etc - works really well as a carrier for soy sauce.

I couldn't really give a stuff for chocolate or sugary things, but I do have a 'salt tooth' and that's how I go about satiating it.

OneFlipflopleft · 08/06/2023 14:14

I do soy sauce with slices of cucumber, for snacks.
And put soy sauce in tomato juice, if I fancy a drink.😋

Softoprider · 08/06/2023 14:16

OP I would say you have a salt craving which is why you like the idea of drinking soy sauce so much. Do you get cramps in your legs at all?

cocksstrideintheevening · 08/06/2023 14:17

Would some rehydration salts help in a slightly less salty way?

JuneOsborne · 08/06/2023 14:37

This reminds me of bulk buying plain hoola hoops (no imitation version would do) and Pani Puri's.

In fact, give them both a try! With or without soy sauce!

have a look at www.justonecookbook.com

this is my fav website for Japanese recipes and a lot of them include soya sauce. if you buy tamari (kikkoman is a good brand) which is Japanese soya sauce, you will find it very versatile.

Could it be a sodium deficiency?
