To want to drink soy sauce?

Pastaf0rbreakfast · 08/06/2023 13:33

Okay so I’m not actually going to drink it but I am 5 weeks pregnant, feeling nauseous and having some serious food aversions, the only thing I fancy is soy sauce - but what can I have it with?? I tried with some noodles for lunch but the noodles made me feel quite sick. What can I use as a carrier for the soy sauce?

If you're needing salt I highly recommend the Knorr chicken noodle packet soup, but sent through a sieve so you're just getting the broth. We call it poorly soup in our house!

Peas! I love a lunch of boiled peas and edame beans top with a poached egg and seasoned with a little seasame oil and lots of soya sauce. And then a little sriracha if you like a spicy kick. Yum!

Toast of some pumpkin seeds the put soy sauce on them yummy

As someone who had hyperemesis, I would put a splash in a glass of water and try drinking it. I would not drink it straight. If you have a craving, giving in to the craving generally helps with the nausea. Once you do that, it helps you eat more normal foods, which helps with the nausea.

another thing that might work and seem less bizarre is apple cider vinegar in water.

veggie sushi, like the avocado and cucumber rolls? I guess it's the salt?

AuntFlosmiserableniece · 08/06/2023 15:35

I’m also pregnant, also lots of food aversions….except soy sauce! I’ve had it on plain rice or with cucumber or just on a spoon

Plain gnocchi with a splash of soy sauce. One of the most delicious things ever, and takes 3 mins to prepare. Maybe more stomach-settling than noodles? Mmm carbs…

perenniallymessy · 08/06/2023 15:45

Plain boiled white rice with soy sauce is amazing, I crave that a lot (not pregnant!)

LittleSnowyOwl · 08/06/2023 15:46

Dip cucumber in it or chopped up carrots?

Have it with noodles or sushi.

On another note, I’ll bet you are having a boy.

I was the same with hoi-sin sauce, probably for similar reasons 😂 i ate a lot of duck spring rolls!

I would try toasting some bread, putting some mildish cheese on with some soy sauce and grill it. Like a mild rarebit.

Or try ready salted crisps - tortilla chips and hula hoops were good.

LauraPausini · 08/06/2023 15:52

Yes! I had this craving due to hyperemesis (as well as curly fries, bizarrely).

Veggie sushi or Katsu chicken go well.

Hazelnuttella · 08/06/2023 15:57

Miso soup was a good suggestion
really fancy some sushi now

Wildlyboring · 08/06/2023 15:59

I had hyperemesis and craved chicken and mushroom pot noodles just for the taste of soy sauce, probably because I was dehydrated most of the time the salty taste was good.

Now I'm third tri and anemic and despite the iron tablets have an ongoing horrendous urge to eat a bath sponge (I'm not and don't have any in the house just in case) but the temptation to walk in to boots and pick one up is overwhelming at times 🙈

Just going to pop this here, hoping you don’t have too much of the stuff….

Live on the wild side and just drink it.

😂^
I’m vegan and whilst pregnant craved beef. 🤢 I eventually gave in and would it eat it now and again, covered in mint sauce. DD loves meat, eats it either rare or medium rare fillet steak, dipping her chips in the blood. I think she would it blue if she could.
When I was her age I used to eat raw sausage!

Pastaf0rbreakfast · 08/06/2023 17:28

Oh wow @HRTeatime will definitely try and limit myself!

Strangely, the idea of carbs makes me queasy this time, whereas all I could eat when pregnant with DC1 was carbs.

Have tried the cucumber this afternoon and it was delightful! Steamed veg with soy sounds amazing too. Will try rice and see how I get on.

Thank you for all your suggestions, the vanilla ice cream actually doesn’t sound half bad 🙈
