To tip off a clairvoyant?

DP has been having a really hard tome recently and has suffered the death of a loved one which he’s really cut up about and really struggling with. Someone has recommended to him a clairvoyant and he really doesn’t believe in the afterlife at all and won’t be going in with an open mind.
AIBU/a nut job to contact this clairvoyant before he visits to give her a little tip off so she says something that has him believing a little more and hopefully give him some comfort? Nothing major just like the name of who I know he wants to hear from/about and maybe another tidbit or two. He would never find out, but might make him feel better.
It’s just crossed my mind now. What do people think?

Wtf!! Insult to the clairvoyant and your husband!! My oh went to a popular one after his father passed away and she came out with stuff that proved she wasn't a fake.

No she didn't.

They are all fake. Every last one.

That’s a ridiculous idea and complete and utter insult to the medium. Don’t be surprised if they cancel the booking if you attempt this. I would and know many others would refuse to see a client if this happened

Insult to the medium?
Don't make me laugh.
They're a bunch of lying charlatans.

If they were really clairvoyant they wouldn't need tipping off, would they!

I'd be more inclined to feed the 'medium' some specific but very misleading information, so that he will find everything the fraudster says is wrong. That might cure him from going again.

No she didn't, she's just a very good con artist.

If you could work out how they 'know' stuff, the whole fake industry wouldn't exist.

The minute you agree to see one, they have the advantage and you are ripe to be conned - a mark.

IAteAllTheTomatoes · 31/05/2023 12:54

Not your finest hour but it's obviously well intended and you want to help him.

What I don't understand is that he is open minded enough to see a medium (fraudster), why won't be considered seeing a bereavement counsellor when that is something that is more likely to help?

mamabear715 · 31/05/2023 12:57

FFS, what IS it with MN & clairvoyants / mediums etc?
@Red0 I hope your DH gets a very good reading & his mind put at rest.

I never thought of that!

Mind you, they're used to that when they do cold reading. They are experts at figuring out the right answer for a particular punter.

Like hell, they would. All you fraudsters would be licking your lips at a wife giving you the info. Saves you the trouble of having to get it off Facebook yourself.

Frabbits · 31/05/2023 12:31

Taking her to an actual medical professional would have been preferable, I feel.

She did once she had seen the psychic. Prior to that it would have been a case of having to drag her against her will

AuntieMarys · 31/05/2023 13:18

What a sick thing
to do.

CurlewKate · 31/05/2023 13:19

Insulting the medium is the very least of the issues up for discussion here!

Namechange666 · 31/05/2023 13:20

Wtf....

BTMadmummy · 31/05/2023 13:46

Oh no, please don't do this

PrinceHaz · 31/05/2023 13:51

Wouldn’t a clairvoyant refuse to be party to this suggestion anyway? I suppose asking and getting their response might help you know if they’re a charlatan.

Of course they wouldn't. Any extra bit of information they can use to rob people of money they will jump upon.

Hoffi · 31/05/2023 14:01

I wish MN would come up with some kind of white flag to raise on a post where the OP concedes early on.

Elevel · 31/05/2023 14:06

I wouldn't help a fraudster, no, it's deceitful.

Although reminds me of a Facebook post from a local "psychic" asking people to book if they intended on coming to her "psychic evening" so she knew whay numbers to expect. First post - "surely you should already know?" Got more attention than the main post. 😁

Red0 · 30/05/2023 23:22

Ohhhh…. so that’s a no then? 🙈

I’m worried you’d even have to ask in the first place…

knobheeeeed · 31/05/2023 14:20

They are all con artists and it's a load of utter bullshit. You realize that don't you OP???
I can't believe you would even consider tipping off a clairvoyant (who isn't clairvoyant if they need to be tipped off in the first place).
DP shouldn't be going to one in the first place. If he's struggling with grief he needs to get grief counselling and also help from the GP. Not going to some rip-off merchant clairvoyant who is going to peddle a load of lies while merrily pocketing his cash

diddl · 31/05/2023 14:42

If he is so sceptical why is he going at all?

2bazookas · 31/05/2023 14:48

How horribly dishonest, patronising and manipulative of you.

Either the clairvoyant has a gift, ot they're a charlatan feeding on the needs of the vulnerable.

greyhairnomore · 31/05/2023 15:23

What ??

Always the second one. Always.

"...............................they're a charlatan feeding on the needs of the vulnerable"

Yes. That sounds about right.
