Dog poop at our gates

pontipinemum · 30/05/2023 21:17

Our neighbours dog often poops at the entrance to our drive. Our house is about 5 meters off the road not down a big massive drive.

Context is needed - we live on a 1 lane country road, it's about 1.5 mile long and has 4 houses on it in the middle of the country side, we are farmers, as is this neighbour.

The neighbour walks her dogs every day one of them often poops at our gate, we have a little dog and I guess he is trying to taunt him. That same dog sometimes jumps into our garden I've caught him a few times, my dog has as well and loses his shit! She just walks on passed and lets them follow her as they wish, they are not on leads.

I don't like that they poop at our entrance but it drives absolutely DH crazy! I do watch for it when I go for my daily walk with DS. Because of the sort of area we live in though I'm not sure what to expect.

YABU - It's the country side let dogs poop where they want
YANBU - It's a bit mank to do it right at your entrance

It's not just a bit mank it's absolutely disgusting. I had similar the other say. Honestly can't imagine the size the dog must have been to leave the amount of mess it did.
I unfortunately dont know who did it so had to get the bleach and a couple of kettles of boiling water as there's no way I could leave it.

TheFlis12345 · 30/05/2023 21:22

Does your neighbour pick it up or leave it there?

pontipinemum · 30/05/2023 21:24

@Plump82 that sounds very bad! Our drive goes out onto a country lane so I wasn't sure how 'unacceptable' it really is

@TheFlis12345 she leaves it there, also makes zero attempt to stop them.

MuffinToSeeHere · 30/05/2023 21:25

What does you neighbour say when you tell her she needs to pick up after her dogs? I'm not surprised it enrages your DH she sounds like a truly crap neighbour and dog owner.

EvilElsa · 30/05/2023 21:27

So she doesn't even pick it up?! Disgusting. I'd fling it back over her fence onto her land or down her driveway personally. I've no patience for dog owners who leave shit (and I'm a dog owner). If I caught her out I'd have to say something.

Vegalam · 30/05/2023 21:28

I get that you live in the countryside but still...right outside of your entrance?

I'd bag it up and hand it to them when you next see them with a cheery 'I think you forgot this!'

vipersnest1 · 30/05/2023 21:28

I'd be straight out there asking her if she's going to pick it up - and if she says no tell her you will hand-deliver it to her front door.

Floralys2 · 30/05/2023 21:30

I'd be tempted to go for a shit myself on her doorstep

pontipinemum · 30/05/2023 21:32

I haven't said anything. We have little chats when we pass each other but that's it. Her kids are all early 20s so didn't have a 'mum friend' connection really but she did drop in a little gift when DS was born.

If she just went a tiny bit further up the road they could poop in the hedge/ grass and no one would be the wiser.

Tell her to pick up her dogs shit. It really is that simple. If she doesn’t, bag it up and take it to her house.

I’d love a dog but can’t deal with the shit so don’t have one. Of you have a dog, you need to pick up after it

How have you not spoke to her? She's clearly not going to stop if you never say anything. I don't understand how you and your DH have just watched her do it on multiple occasions and never said anything.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 30/05/2023 21:47

I'd be returning it to her doorstep every single time. Disgusting woman.

JMSA · 30/05/2023 22:37

You must confront her! It can be done in a gentle, polite and friendly way. But she absolutely cannot get away with this behaviour.

Do one polite conversation about how it is not acceptable for her to not pick up. If it continues she gets it delivered to her front door in a bag with a note that says the next time it will be coming through your letter box and it won’t be in a bag. I had a colleague who took this approach - problem did not stop after the polite opener but did after the second one.

Jellybean23 · 30/05/2023 22:53

Return every 'deposit' to it's rightful owner. Your neighbour obviously has no respect for you and your property.

stevalnamechanger · 30/05/2023 23:07

Tell her you have her on camera !

lljkk · 30/05/2023 23:07

You could put a sign up, "No fouling here", etc.

We had a phantom dog pooer on our verge, I put up a sign of many strong words & the dog mess abruptly stopped. I found a little baggy on our verge today (hisssssssss). I am pretty sure someone is routinely dropping little poo bags all along the lane, in the weeds etc. The bags are small so very easily taken home, wtf, what is wrong with people. Grrrrr.

Zarataralara · 30/05/2023 23:14

Happened at my last house. I stuck signs on the gateposts.” I suggest you clean up after your dog. You are on CCTV and will be reported” Didn’t happen again.

If your road is an adopted road there will be a by-law against not picking up after your dog, usually £1000-£1500 fine.

pontipinemum · 31/05/2023 09:19

@lljkk I like the idea of a little sign.

@Zarataralara it's not a private road. It's a through road and it was re-surfaced by the council about 6 years ago.

This gives a better idea of what I am talking about. The dog is pooping where I've marked. Because it is so rural I feel awkward saying anything. We often have massive horse poops on the road and cows when they are walked down the road. But she could force her dogs on, I've never had horse poop right there.

I don't get why you feel awkward about confronting her. Horses and cows pooing there is irrelevant. She has dogs and part of dog ownership is cleaning up after them it doesn't matter if she's rural or no. I'm sure if they were pooing outside her gate she wouldn't just leave it.

red78hot · 31/05/2023 09:29

A colleague years ago had a similar problem, a woman was letting herself into part of his back garden, it was a separate little bit and she must have used it before they moved in. So one day he put a sign up saying "no dogshit today thanks"

pontipinemum · 31/05/2023 10:10

I know her dog 100% does it, well 1 of them. There are a few people who drive out from town to walk our road so it might not always be hers. I like these signs:

I live rurally, and rural people care a lot less about dog poo, but she still shouldn't be letting her dog poo right at your gate. I would politely request that she discourages her dog.

PinkFootstool · 31/05/2023 10:20

It doesn't matter hugely where they shit as long as they bloody pick it up! That would drive me nuts.

Definitely have a word and ask her to pick it up on the shared lane and on your front access at the very least.

Or start throwing it back to her, but that's the nuclear option.....

newnamethanks · 31/05/2023 10:22

Pick it up in a pooh bag and drop it on her path. Every time. With luck she'll step in it.
