Here: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35948114/#:~:text=Numerous%20studies%20have%20shown%20that,%2C%20mutagens%2C%20and%20endocrine%20disruptors.

Not only is it bad for the environment but it's probably bad for your health too.

The issues are still being investigated, but:

"Numerous studies have shown that chemicals identified in artificial turf, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), phthalates, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), are known carcinogens, neurotoxicants, mutagens, and endocrine disruptors."

@chupachucks but the actual detail matters.

As does the difference between an ecological issue and a human health issue.

Just waving your hands and saying words about scientific research isn’t meaningful. It’s also fascinating that you assume I might not know about it.

Careful, detailed, specific evidence matters.

effects in invertebrate habitats are important. Genuine understanding of what’s happening not just broad brush complaints.

claims about damage to human health need to be based in more than ‘fake grass is bad for the environment and toxic to humans’.

Apart from anythjng else this kind of overgeneralised panic mongering is counterproductive. You don’t convince anyone who isn’t already predisposed to fake grass is killing you toddler as a narrative by being hyperbolic and unspecific.

chupachucks · 30/05/2023 18:25

@IncomingTraffic To be honest talking to you is utterly pointless, you claim to know about these things but yet yourself have failed to back up a single point with any evidence yourself.

Claiming the facts that artificial grass is harmful to human health and environmentally irresponsible are over generalised panic mongering, just proves your replies are complete and utter wafflle and word salad. You have not challenged anything I have said in any educated or scientifically backed up way.

Please excuse me if I completely ignore any more replies from you until you can come back a little more educated and challenge me with actual facts. 🙄

IncomingTraffic · 30/05/2023 19:00

Fine. I’m not the one making claims that fake grass is harmful to human health etc

not sure what you want me to evidence. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tacky and toxic. I instantly think poorly of anyone who chooses it.

Luckily this wouldn't bother me as I'd rather not associate myself with someone who is judging from their ivory tower. Make sure you're pretty damn perfect before you judge other people

AlwaysGinPlease · 30/05/2023 20:03

@Juiceboxxy 🤣

Startyabastard · 30/05/2023 20:12

I must admit I hate it.
Unless it's from quite a far distance you can tell its fake because it's all one colour, unlike natural grass thay has yellow variegated shafts.
I just hate that plastic is replacing something natural.
In my opinion which won't be everyone's, patchy grass and mud looks preferable in my opinion and is obviously better for the environment.
I knew a school which covered their ground in it and that made me feel quite sad. It's another natural thing removed from where children are, and as most people know, children need nature. Also, there's less area for birds and wildlife.

It's none of their business.

It isn't... except they have made it their business so much so we dread walking past their house as if they see us, they give us a right earache. Retired with nothing better to do unfortunately.

TheHandmaiden · 30/05/2023 21:40

They sound deranged and best ignored. I'd be tuning them out.

All these apologists for plastic grass, x a billion, is why we are riding the crest of an extinction wave.
