Can you stop parking on the beaches. This happens every year and it’s getting ridiculous!

I love it. It gives me a giggle.
Our local beach had two during Easter.

LakieLady · 28/05/2023 15:27

I've been to Cornwall loads and have never seen that happen!

I saw it happen on the estuary at Llansteffan in Wales though, they had to get a land rover to tow them out

Bloody idiots.

Imissingrid · 28/05/2023 15:34

Lots of people seem to have difficulty understanding the sea moves.
Friend offered to photograph a couple together at local harbour and commented it was a shame the tide was out as it was so much prettier when the tide was in. Ooh that sounds nice says the man, when will that happen again cos we’re only here for two more days……….

Testina · 28/05/2023 15:37

Don’t he silly - it’s always good for a laugh!

listsandbudgets · 28/05/2023 15:39

Well you know how it is.. no parking in the roads but down on the beach is a lovely stretch of firm sand.. not like the dry powdery stuff higher up but firm and flat .. perfect. Just pop it there for a few hours and go shopping and out for lunch ... wonder why more people don't park there .....

WildInYourEyes · 28/05/2023 15:44

It’s doesn’t just happen at beaches in Cornwall. Silly people visit beaches everywhere.

Azealeasinbloom · 28/05/2023 15:44

Oh my, that is funny . Wonder what the insurance company will say 🤔

Castleintheclouds · 28/05/2023 15:45

I've seen a car get stuck in the soft sand high up on the beach in Cornwall before. They drove an SUV onto the sand about ten or twenty feet and stopped then revved loads and couldn't move it at all. I don't know why they tried to drive onto a beach.

GoodChat · 28/05/2023 15:46

And take a day trip to Lappa Valley if you have young children. Its fantastic.

People thinking their Chelsea tractors are unstoppable forces of nature, suddenly getting a reality adjustment will never not be funny.

Fizbosshoes · 28/05/2023 15:51

Every year there is a thread asking people not to drive/park/behave anti socially in Cornwall.

Ideally people wouldn't do that anywhere!! It's no less rude or annoying when they park moronically or behave antisocially in their home town or other destinations, but unfortunately some people are just idiots....

DH is an instructor in the Royal Navy. It's astounding how many new recruits have never seen the sea, never been on a boat let alone a ship, and have never heard of tides let alone understand the difference between high tide and low tide.

Mind you, his best mate also joined the. RN when we were teenagers and he left because he got so seasick bless him!

Paq · 28/05/2023 15:58

Does anyone know what beach that happened on?

And why BMWs are disproportionately represented in the "car stuck on beach with incoming tide" category of idiocy?

kernowpicklepie · 28/05/2023 16:03

@Paq it was Trevaunance

HewasH20 · 28/05/2023 16:08

BMWs, Mercs and Range Rovers are beach magnets.

PuttingDownRoots · 28/05/2023 16:08

I saw a load of people having to paddle of the beach in Lancashire last year. Curved bay, so the steps at the side went underwater first.
There's even a klaxon to warn people!

DemonicCaveMaggot · 28/05/2023 16:12

DD told me that whenever she and her friends go to the beaches near Exeter there is always someone parked on the beach having to get towed. I will have to ask her to collect data on the type of cars.

Maybe they are so stupid they think they are in Cornwall?

When we lived in Alabama a lady was reversing her boyfriend's new pick up truck down the ramp to the river to pick up his boat. Only she didn't stop at the end of the ramp but continued down into the river. The truck was flooded and DD's rowing club had to assemble to help haul it back out. No comment on what the boyfriend thought of the whole situation.

So it isn't just a UK problem let alone a Cornwall problem.

Second this! Loved taking the kids when they were smaller, a real hidden treasure of a place.

IhearyouClemFandango · 28/05/2023 16:16

Ha! Regular occurrence here on the Isle of Wight too 😁

AluckyEllie · 28/05/2023 16:20

I’m genuinely baffled by this! Are people that lazy they can’t walk 100 metres from a car park? And also..it’s a beach. Why would you possibly want to park there

UnctuousUnicorns · 28/05/2023 16:21

Not beach, but I'm reminded of when some idiots drove into our local park (access for council workers only) and parked on the grass. It was rather muddy so they got stuck. Oh, how we chortled as their wheels spun around while their car went nowhere.

Mostly because they are lazy it seems.

Talia99 · 28/05/2023 16:26

Some beaches are suitable for parking, though. I regularly visit a beach (not in the UK) where the normal tarmac public road goes down to the sand and you then turn left or right on the beach to park. I can see how someone used to that sort of beach might assume that if the beach wasn’t safe for parking, it wouldn’t be accessible to cars.

FourChimneys · 28/05/2023 16:28

I saw that happen years ago at Weston-super-Mare. A posh car, an embarrassed woman, lots of people trying to help dig the car out and a man having a huge tantrum, threatening to sue the council because there were no signs saying the sea would come in.
