Now the weather is getting warmer, neighbours seem to ramp up the noise and other nuisance behaviour.

Mine aren't too bad concerned to some, but two doors down, the woman and man seem to have a serious weed habit and are constantly in their shed smoking. It stinks. They have two small children who are around 3 and 5 and the kids are around them when they're smoking week. It's shit. The last week, they've also had the kids out at 6.30am the other day and then 8.00am this morning. They aren't quiet kids, screaming, crying, even at that time.

Then our mutual next door neighbour also smokes weed. She also sits out in the garden at any sign of decent weather watching shitty TV shows without headphones in. It's fairly quiet, but still, I'd prefer to listen to just the birds. They also have a dog who barks very loudly with a high pitched bark constantly when they're out, but even when they're home sometimes. They don't attempt to shut it up until each time I end up going knocking on the door to remind them their dog is upset and that is why it is barking. They've been very good at shutting it up lately but I always know it's not long before it slips.

Then, other next door neighbours are ok really, except they recently used my recycling bin without asking. I will let them off.

I used to work for an elected official.
People would move near the airport and then call my office and complain about the noise from the jets.

I mean…

Phoebo · 29/05/2023 02:28

Mine has a kid that's constantly screaming and crying. Makes me want shoot myself some days. She used to blame it on "terrible twos" except the kid is now 3 and a half! Fml.

I've been on this earth for nearly 64 years, and have never had neighbours to complain about - although, I suspect I am a lot more tolerant than many on MN.

Toomanysquishmallows · 29/05/2023 05:11

I’ve got horrible neighbours in the flat upstairs, they fly tip their rubbish all the street . They also have endless barbecues, where they play incredibly loud music , we have also had cigarette ends and beer cans thrown in our garden.

hattie43 · 29/05/2023 06:34

I couldn't stand to have neighbours anymore . These stories remind me how lucky I am , I just can't stand this level of intrusive noise . No wonder people are so angry these days not even being able to have peace and calm at home .

HelpMeGetThrough · 29/05/2023 06:56

Ours are fine.

Chap behind us is great. He's mid 40s I reckon and sometimes has pretty impressive Mohican. Always wondered if he was going to crank up his music and listen to the Clash or Sex Pistols, nope, he did put his music on quietly one day when he was in the garden, he was listening to Wham! 😘

Why has that got a weird emoji on it!!!

Timeturnerplease · 29/05/2023 07:13

Ours are ok apart from the family next door who smoke weed. DD1 (4) regularly asks what the funny smell is. I can cope with that though, seeing as they are pretty pleasant generally and don’t do it when their children are around. It’s when they have friends round and one of their friends - well known in the village for being outspoken - starts using the c word as an adjective every 30 seconds. We’ve had to tell DD1 that they’re saying sponge 😂

People are allowed to have their guests say cunt in their garden. What a Mumsnet thing to get upset about. Omg. Middle class pearl clutching at its finest.

They are, but if there are young kids around who can hear it, well they are just being, cunts.

Morally, maybe questionable as we would like to think other people value what our children can hear.

Legally, you can say whatever you want within the confines of your own property boundary, as long as you're not directing it at a specific neighbour.

But also, no one really has to care what kids can or cannot hear, and don't need to concern themselves with it. I wish everyone did, it would be a nicer world but other people's kids is not their responsibility.

I wouldn't put that to the test in this day and age.

I bet if you were sat in your garden and decided to have a racist or homophobic conversation with whoever you were with and a neighbour overheard it and reported you to the Police, they would be around in seconds, smashing your door down, tasers at the ready, regardless of the fact you didn't direct it at the neighbour.

FattyAirways · 29/05/2023 21:19

Today has been fucking hellish. It started this morning when the neighbours next door but one let their kids in the garden, screaming and yelling and crying so early on. I'm sure they let the kids out that early so they can both sit in their shed and smoke their weed.

Then, they went inside, I took the chance to enjoy my first cup of tea of the day in the garden when weed-smoking next door neighbour was gardening with loud music blaring through the upstairs window.

Following that, the music eventually went off after a few hours but I had retreated in. I popped back out an hour or so later and the other next door neighbour was sat in the back garden smoking her weed and her fucking awful dog was barking. She tells it to be quiet so fucking meekly that it doesn't shut up. All day it's been barking on and off. A friend then came round and because she wasn't showing the dog enough attention it was barking some more. They went inside and left the dog alone downstairs and then the non-stop, constant, high-pitched barking started just as I had settled down for the night. Fuck that, I made some loud banging noises and eventually someone came to shut the dog up. I'm sending the noise log I have been doing to the council tomorrow. Hope the bastard neighbours are more considerate then and actually make the dog shut up. They can do it as they have done it before when I have complained.

Fuck these inconsiderate arseholes. I hope karma is real.

I’ve found my people!
I live on a square of 6 houses. Two of the houses, the moment it’s warm, start mowing, strimming, leaf blowing. I’ve no idea how they have any garden left to do this to! Generally this starts up at about 7am (they’re retired, no shade but this is how they’re able to do this)
other neighbour has a posh car which he stores in a garage, every Saturday when the weather is good, he has it out revving it, washing it, listening to the radio loud AF from about 8am onwards. The radio I don’t mind tbh but the revving I do.

I realise this is fairly low key but I’m a nurse, working nights at times and it wakes me up (I do use ear plugs etc)

since the Clampetts moved out a few years back it's been pretty quiet round my way!

Ok Mrs Drysdale.

I really hope you're taking the mick.

If not, why the fuck did you move next to a farm? That's like moving next to an airport and being pissed off with planes.

Go back to the town.

I realize I’m very late to this conversation, but you really made me laugh.
I’m in the U.S. & used to be an aide to a senator. People moved in next to the airport & called my office to complain about the noise. They were furious that the senator could not move the airport at their request, so 4 or 5 got together to boycott both my senator and the airport.
My boss ran unopposed, the airport is still there, and I never heard from the #canceltheairport people again.
lol

WandaWonder · 22/02/2024 04:51

I do find peoples attitude change when they have kids 'I live here now and I have young children so neighbours you need to change your lives so my chidlren do not come into contact with anything I don't approve'

Not just neighbours but people do not have to change because you have children, the world does not work that way

Tatonka · 22/02/2024 06:37

Mine has two kids who are always screaming, unkempt yard with weeds growing and rubbish everywhere. I hate them, and can't wait until they move.
