Now the weather is getting warmer, neighbours seem to ramp up the noise and other nuisance behaviour.

Mine aren't too bad concerned to some, but two doors down, the woman and man seem to have a serious weed habit and are constantly in their shed smoking. It stinks. They have two small children who are around 3 and 5 and the kids are around them when they're smoking week. It's shit. The last week, they've also had the kids out at 6.30am the other day and then 8.00am this morning. They aren't quiet kids, screaming, crying, even at that time.

Then our mutual next door neighbour also smokes weed. She also sits out in the garden at any sign of decent weather watching shitty TV shows without headphones in. It's fairly quiet, but still, I'd prefer to listen to just the birds. They also have a dog who barks very loudly with a high pitched bark constantly when they're out, but even when they're home sometimes. They don't attempt to shut it up until each time I end up going knocking on the door to remind them their dog is upset and that is why it is barking. They've been very good at shutting it up lately but I always know it's not long before it slips.

Then, other next door neighbours are ok really, except they recently used my recycling bin without asking. I will let them off.

Mine ripped up the mature garden that had been in for 70 years. Stuck it all in a pile to rot, it's still there over 3 years later. They somehow managed to encourage rats in.

They've sunk the levels of their garden by digging out over a metre down. Left it unsupported until recently and have now only supported half of it but only to half height. They've topped that with a fence, put the posts on the outside so they can't maintain it and slung black tarpaulin on the back on our side. The rest is still an unprotected drop.

They have got cameras directly pointed into ours and other neighbours gardens. Everyone hates them.

They've uncovered the foundations of our garage without a party wall agreement and put their scaffolding on the new roof without permission.

They admitted that now their massive extension is finished they are only living in it for a year as they are properly developers

My back garden is now totally overgrown as I no longer use it. I can't dig the bed adjoining them as obviously it would just collapse. My home used to be my sanctuary and I dread coming home now. I worked so hard to have a nice 3 bed semi now it's ruined.

I really hope they burn in hell.

You need to get legal advice pronto. They should not take any action on party walls etc without the proper notification and also pay for surveyor etc. If they haven't then you have a case against them. Sounds awful

These stories make me so glad I've moved to the middle of nowhere. If I stand at the top of my drive and squint into the distance I can see my neighbours house. There's fields on three sides and a beach on the fourth which does get rather busy in the summer. Although there's plenty of farm smells but that's just good country air.

Aeth · 27/05/2023 17:57

We don't have neighbours for many of the reasons given here. Closest 'neighbours' partying or smoking wouldn't reach us, and it's just fields around us otherwise.
I do sympathise OP, as they say, "hell is other people".

I live next door to a farm and the farmer creates so much noise. If he's not slamming his metal sheet gates, he's jet washing for hours/days on end, (as he is now, on a Saturday), milk truck going in and out, jack-hammering, cow noise, it just goes on.

We're in a village and he has no regard for his neighbours 😞

”I live next door to a farm…”

The clue is in your opening sentence.

You sound fun.

Actually I think OP sounds pretty flipping calm and level headed under the circumstances.

That sounds amazing!

nationallampoons · 27/05/2023 18:20

I live in a cul de sac and it was lovely and quiet until one neighbour moved in.

She had a lot of children and our council only allows one of each bin. So she burns what she cannot bin. Last week it was an old plastic paddling pool. She burns rubbish most nights.
Her dogs won't stfu either.

ShinyCaptain · 27/05/2023 18:24

Yes, weed and shit music and yelling. And crunchy crunchy gravel. They just all march up and down all day on the crunchy gravel, smoking weed, in time with the music, yelling at each other.

I hate them.

Yfory · 27/05/2023 18:26

PriamFarrl · 27/05/2023 17:24

You sound like an anti social neighbour.

Agreed!

I often wish us considerate, mostly quiet folks could live as neighbours........... and confine the "others" (Id include a lot in that category tbh - eg anyone who lets their dog foul the pavement/park) to "somewhere else".
Im not at all boring or dull but I hate being bothered by other peoples noise, other peoples drama, mess so I try not to do anything myself that would be a bother to others.
And yes I love to sit and read and listen to the birds. :)

StayGoldenPonyGirl · 27/05/2023 18:28

My previous house was a terrace between 2 sets of younger couples who were besties. They used to use my drive to meet and chat for ages - it was right in front of my kitchen window and I felt so awkward if I was in the kitchen, like I was invading their privacy 😆

One set were nice but one set were cunts for no reason. At first I went out of my way to be nice, giving them kid stuff (not old tat before anyone thinks that!) and cards, bin space, being polite but they just took against me, encouraging their brats to throw weeds in my garden and beer caps at my cats. Eventually the cunts left and a nice man moved in but he would have 'stair sessions' where he just ran up and downstairs for 20-30 minutes at a time. Wasn't the end of the world, just a bit weird.

Neighbours now are mostly lovely. There is a pair of semis a few doors down with a 20/21 year old lass and little kids in each. They looove to party though, which is usually fine but sometimes ends up with police, sometimes with a bit of public nudity and endless screaming. It keeps the estate a bit young though and I do love a bit of drama with my nose up against the window. Do feel bad for the toddlers though, lots of different boyfriends and cars of mates coming and going 😞

RocketPanda · 27/05/2023 18:29

@StayGoldenPonyGirl I love it but rural living isn't for everyone. You can't just pop to the shops, you wouldn't want to be squeamish about wildlife, takeaways don't happen because they'd be stone cold by the time we get back. Public transport is non existent, a working car is a must. My DC have experienced town and country living and by far prefer the country. If they have loud parties the only ones to complain would be cows and seals.

I really hope you're taking the mick.

If not, why the fuck did you move next to a farm? That's like moving next to an airport and being pissed off with planes.

Go back to the town.

Nah, I'm not going back to the town. I'm not from the town.

He set up his yard in the main street of a village, behind a derelict pub. He wouldn't be able to do that in 2023. He wanted to install slatted sheds in the village but no-one was having it. He doesn't consider his many neighbours.

philipmccuntfield · 27/05/2023 19:19

On one side, the house joined to ours he plays guitar and sings constantly and he can't sing very well. He also teaches guitar so Tuesday to Friday there are so many lessons. And most of them park over our driveway. Other side is motor bikes coming and going all day all day and night and lots of house parties. Even caught some of their guests on our driveway sitting on the bonnet of our car a couple of weeks ago

CarolDunne · 27/05/2023 19:31

It's us 😀
We are in the garden, with the paddling pool out.

Roaring laughing, generally having the craic
eewe had our dinner outside. Just opened a drink

Making memories as they say

It's the summer☀️

Dinobooklover · 27/05/2023 19:38

I've just had another leak from the upstairs neighbour. All electric has cut out. Worried and losing all the food in my fridge freezer which I just don't have money to replace....

Another one? What they hell are they doing? Sorry you're going through this

Saniflo · 27/05/2023 19:42

You would hate us. 4 kids and we are always out in the garden when the sun is out. And we have a trampoline and a large 2 story playhouse.

The number I've had in the last week suggests someone not coping with life , so I've also called out of hours SS. Bloody fed up doesn't cover it though.

Jesus, that's wild. I'm sure you're finding it hard to cope now too though, I bloody well would be

LindorDoubleChoc · 27/05/2023 19:50

We have a neighbour on one side whose apple and pear trees are out of control and shade our west facing garden. She will plead poverty if we ask her to get them cut (single retired lady living in a HA house worth 1 million) and on the other side a family who moved in and immediately did a loft conversion and kitchen side return extension taking 9 months of building works over an entire summer. They have 2 loud screaming/crying children and a massive echoing kitchen with an Alexa that needs to be shouted at constantly over the general noise.
