To think other parents shouldn't dictate how much pocket money your child gets?

Dd is 14 and does have a weekend job but i give her about £3 pounds a day for snacks etc. Her absent dad gives her a small monthly allowance for clothes( not a huge sum).
In the past a friend commented that x amount was too much and they give their child x amount. I think they were expecting me to match the amount their child gets.

Aibu to think that how much money your child gets is of no concern of others and also we do not live in a fair world so kids have to learn everyone is different?

“I give my teen £3 a day to buy junk food and I’m very comfortable with this. I’m very confident that I’m right and I don’t really care what other people think about it. This is why I’m posting for strangers’ opinions on the matter on a social media forum”

Give the child £15 at the weekend. Then if she wants to spend it on something more tangible she can do. Giving her the money a few pounds every day just encourages her to fritter it away on junk food.

The only thing I'm taking away from this thread is I had no idea how popular bubble tea is.

Why bother though, she has a Saturday job that presumably pays a lump sum weekly?

It's no wonder kids today are so fat when their parents give them £3 a day to spend on "snacks".

Lol.

I spent £2.50 the other day on a fruit salad... Not gonna get fat on that...

lol, my kids by the age of 9 already have a spending weekly sum of 30 to 50 pounds which of course includes me, bus fares, shared cafe treats, small toys, a new top if needed, new game, all this shared as a family experience and they decide or chose some bits of the things i spend the money for. When they will be 14 some of this money will be given them so I can observe what they do at this age with it, because is very very close to 18 ( when they will be fully grown ) and if something needs correction, I will correct them. And i am not even rich by any means, may be not even average
