To ask if you have an electric vehicle? Would you recommend it?

Just that really. We are looking at replacing our current mitsubishi outlander with an EV. Possibly a Kia Niro or Peugeot 2008. If you have one, would you recommend it? Are they good as a family car? DC are no longer in booster seats, so fit a bit more comfortably in the back.

Yes. In a heartbeat. I love mine.

TreadLight · 25/05/2023 18:55

I have an MG5 and have no complaints. It's easy to drive and with an electric vehicle tariff it costs peanuts to charge.

I would say electric cars are simply better than equivalent diesel/petrol cars.

ssd · 25/05/2023 19:10

I'd love an electric car. Are they more expensive than petrol ones?

Brody77 · 25/05/2023 19:13

We’ve just taken the plunge to update to a full ev from our old dying diesel merc. We dipped our toe in by having a Mitsubishi outlander phev as our second car for 3 years and it’s been great but need a bit more range so have got a Tesla y and my god it’s bloody great, best car I’ve ever had. More expensive to get ev initially but saves money from the get go £0 tax v little yo go wrong so low running costs etc. even my parents are going to go for a little ev when their 12 yr old car dies!

Hoppinggreen · 25/05/2023 19:15

Yes I would, I have a Tesla Y.
I wasn’t sure about ev so I leased one for a bit to get used to it. I love it

Nevermind31 · 25/05/2023 19:15

I do like an electric car, just not mine.
its smaller than I would have liked, the range is not good, but the freedom to just plug it in at home is wonderful. But we only really drive locally. Going further requires some planning

BoogieBoogieWoogie · 25/05/2023 19:16

Yes I have the e208 and love it

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 25/05/2023 19:17

Haha, so I used to drive a Kia, also a Leaf, and now we're thinking of an Outlander.
I think you have to have time and patience to map routes and charge.
Or if you don't drive long distance too frequently, then yes an EV makes perfect sense. Kia eNiro is amazing but the 360 camera on the Leaf is fab.
Leaf has the issue with lack of battery coolant reducing battery charge so look into that if you do long distance.

connie26 · 25/05/2023 19:18

I have a Nissan Leaf and I love it. At the moment, all my electricity for it is arriving for free from the sun via the solar panels!

HilaryThorpe · 25/05/2023 19:21

We have an e2008 and love it. Fabulous to drive, smooth ride, three adults in the back are comfortable. The boot is a bit smaller than the 3008 we had before. The range isn't wonderful, but perfectly good for day to day use and holiday trips.

HelpIcantfindaname · 25/05/2023 19:22

I have a Peugot 2008 & I love it. Its great to drive & doesn't cost much to charge, we charge it at home overnight.
Hubby still has his petrol car though so if we are going on a long journey we'd use that.

Willowkins · 25/05/2023 19:23

Love my e-Corsa - it's perfect for local travel and fits our family of 3 adults comfortably. However, it doesn't have the range for long journeys and charging away from home can be a nightmare.

allthepeoplethatcomearound · 25/05/2023 19:24

I have a Tesla model 3. It was a very close call between the Tesla and a Polestar.
I love the Tesla and I’m a complete EV convert. Never any issues, charging or otherwise and we live in North Wales which isn’t exactly known for its abundance of super chargers😩

goodkidsmaadhouse · 25/05/2023 19:24

I LOVE mine. It’s not a family car (small, tiny boot) but it’s perfect for commuting and taking the kids to their activities. So cheap to run.

SummerSimmer · 25/05/2023 19:25

I like ours, we were spending £400 per month on petrol and now it costs about £70 to charge. We do lots of trips like lunch out at the coast and don’t have to think about the cost to get there.

User565394 · 25/05/2023 19:27

Yes if most of your journeys are comfortably within the (realistic) range of your car. No if not.

We've had an ev for about 10 years so lots of experience.

junglejane66 · 25/05/2023 19:28

I had a hire EV, took 2 hours to find a working charger and 1 hour to change to about half way and cost £50. I really wanted to like it but was disappointed. No I wouldn't buy one until the charging network improves massively

Sunnysunbun · 25/05/2023 19:31

I love mine.

runforyourdog · 25/05/2023 19:31

We've got an Ioniq 5, it's great. Costs hardly anything to run.

It's just a bit of a pain sometimes on very long journeys, especially in the winter.

Wallywobbles · 25/05/2023 19:47

Yes. We have a Zoe. DH does 100kms a day at it's currently costing us about €3.50 for that. We're in France so electricity is cheaper.

We are spending €70 a month instead of €630.

musicalmrs · 25/05/2023 19:47

We have a Kia Niro and love it. We're in Herts and have taken it down to Dorset/Devon and to France, and have had no issues charging. Some service stations don't have great charger provision but it's improving - for example, Fleet Services didn't have many last weekend but they're mid way through putting in more. It'll be even easier when Tesla unlock more of their superchargers for all to use.

Charging at home (esp using solar!) makes it far cheaper than petrol/diesel; charging out and about works out as the same kind of cost though.

Wobblybobble · 25/05/2023 19:52

We recently took the plunge and ordered a Volvo EX90. I’m so excited! My brother has a Tesla and it’a fantastic, so quiet and feels really spacious inside. The Volvo is new though and not even going into production until the beginning of next year, so we won’t have it in our hands for ages, which is annoying. I guess on the bright side, the infrastructure by the end of 2024 will be a little bit better. We put off the purchase as long as we could so that we could just jump straight to an EV with decent range from our current diesel, so are just praying our trusty old car doesn’t give up the ghost now before the EV gets here.

lissie123 · 25/05/2023 19:54

Love my IONIQ 5. It’s the best thing ever and has made my commute a dream

SellFridges · 25/05/2023 19:55

I can’t think of a single charger I have ever used where it’s cost much more than £20 to entirely fill up our Tesla. How on earth did you spend £50 for halfway?!

We are total converts. Love ours and won’t go back now.

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 25/05/2023 20:05

MG4 here and love it. Great to drive. solar panels on the roof meanI can charge it for free - at least when the weathers like it is today ☀️
