To start watching friends at 31?

So surprisingly, as a 90s baby I have never watched friends! But people seem utterly obsessed and I have read lots of story plots that have intrigued me. Should I start the whole series now?! Will I be hooked or is it over hyped because of nostalgia?!

Do it.
I adore it and never tire of watching it. It might be nostalgia.

Chickychoccyegg · 24/05/2023 21:39

It's mostly nostalgia, but most of them are quite funny

DeadbeatYoda · 24/05/2023 21:39

Only if you are fond of American cheesy sitcoms. I'm not, I didn't like it.

Chaircushion · 24/05/2023 21:43

Watch it!

StonwEd · 24/05/2023 21:44

I watch it all every few years and have done for as long as I can remember.
great comfort TV, I’m quite jealous you’re about to discover it

Songbird54321 · 24/05/2023 21:46

It's my comfort tv program, I'd recommend. It's easy watching, funny and often relatable (theme tune alone, it certainly hasn't been my day, week, month or even year 😂)
I watch it when I'm ill or sad or just too tired to concentrate on something properly

thoughtsofmoog3 · 24/05/2023 21:47

Yes - it's of its time and a bit of fun.

thoughtsofmoog3 · 24/05/2023 21:48

I mean yes - watch it!

Not

Yes you are being unreasonable!

Ponoka7 · 24/05/2023 21:49

It's dated and is primarily. Ross is a creep and given the chance would groom pupils. But there are funny episodes. My comfort TV is Frasier.

bettynutkins · 24/05/2023 21:49

I watched it for the first time at about 28. I enjoyed it. I didn't enjoy it enough that I would watch it again, but it was an easy watch.

I Gotchu Season 9 GIF by Friends

"Could I be anymore happy that you're gonna watch it"

(Chandler esque quote!)

everythingisfigureoutabble · 24/05/2023 21:50

I started watching friends this year at 34 and can honestly say I loved it! I found the background laughs annoying at first but a couple of episodes in and I didn't even notice (that is what put me off at the start)

ourflagmeansdeath · 24/05/2023 21:51

Love it. Don't necessarily find it hilariously funny but it's such a good show either way, really comforting and I think it's perfect for 31. There are some funny moments to look forward to as well either way. Pivot!

OMG, yes, enjoy it!! I feel vicarious excitement at your Friends discovery!

Friends was first broadcast in the UK in 1995 - and being 31 was already a memory!

CarpetSlipper · 25/05/2023 00:24

Yanbu to give it a go. Loads of people like it. Personally, I find it quite irritating but I didn’t watch it when it was first aired. I expect it seemed better in the 90s.

steff13 · 25/05/2023 00:27

I liked it when it originally aired but on rewatch I found it to be quite dated. But it's worth a watch if you've never seen it.

100% agree, Friends is very of its time but Fraser is timeless

MrsMikeDrop · 25/05/2023 01:05

Start watching and come back and let us know what you think. I imagine watching it now it might seem dated, but it may still appeal. I've watched it many time, but like PP might be more nostalgia than anything

SargentSagittarius · 25/05/2023 01:21

I adore it.

It came on when I was 20 and living in a scummy uni flat - we all sat around the TV to watch the first episode.

When Ross and Rachel were breaking up, I was leaving my first serious ex to go overseas.

It saw me right through my 20s and ended with me aged 30 and with my now DH. It was totally my era.

My 12YO DD now watches it on repeat.

I would say that the pilot isn’t necessarily the episode to hook you in, so if you’re wondering what all the fuss is after that one episode, maybe give it a couple more…

Amen.

GulfCoastBeachGirl · 25/05/2023 01:26

My comfort TV is Frasier.

Same. The humor has stood the test of time and there's just something comforting about it. Also Gilmore Girls, great for when you can't sleep!

steff13 · 25/05/2023 02:57

I just named my new baby rats Frasier and Niles.

Yes!!!! Watch it!!! It is the best comfort tv..

SparklyBlackKitten · 25/05/2023 03:59

A 90s series
Through the eyes of 2023...

Great idea🙄 not

Why see it now if you didn't watch it then?

There was nothing on TV then
Now there are so many good shows on

Why waist your time with outdated beliefs and views...On a show that was fun in the 90s but is so dated now

and to be honest. It was a fun show but not great
