To think it's very wrong to put the water in the cup first and then add the bag

...when making a cup of tea.

Am I being unreasonable?

Trivial, I know, but wondered if there was a consensus, and maybe I'm on the wrong side of it.

If you warm the cup, put the bag in and then put absolutely boiling water in, you get the best cuppa, because the bag sinks slowly and doesn't contain a big bubble of air, making it float.

Oops! Scrap that! Absolutely boiling water in first, so bag slowly sinks. That's what I meant😫

NO! YANBU at all

It’s not a valid method of making tea, not even if herbal (which should have another name as it’s not tea)

They do this in Forn Parts and it’s not acceptable. The water is never hot enough to actual draw out all the lovely teay goodness if you do this

Rhythmisadancer · 24/05/2023 13:23

there is actual science about how certain aromatics / oils in tea are only released when the very hot boiling water hits them, whether in the mug or pot, and anyone who neglects this or deliberately adds a cooling first is making minging tea and should be shot. Which is why all tea coming from samovars / those stupid hot water flasks at conferences etc is rubbish.
Apparently the opposite is true with coffee, and boiling hot water will scald your coffee, but I'm not a coffee person

Toddlerteaplease · 24/05/2023 13:24

Costa do this, that's why their tea is awful!

Jonnycakes · 24/05/2023 13:25

My DM puts the milk in first, then the tea bag, then boiling water. She’s a monster. I’m thinking of saying she can’t watch my children anymore, I don’t want them picking up bad habits like this 😂

I put bag and milk and then add water.

I don't drink tea, doing it this way hit me out of the tea round.

PixieLaLa · 24/05/2023 14:19

Hideous!

helpfulperson · 24/05/2023 14:42

It's wrong but it's how most of the rest of Europe does it.

GoodChat · 24/05/2023 14:49

IANAL but that sounds illegal

I'm not surprised! This is why I don't really drink tea outside my own home and my parents' home. Almost nobody can be trusted to make it properly.
