To feel upset about my grey pubes

lurchermummy · 19/05/2023 22:57

I was preparing for a weekend away with DH and thought I'd have a little tidy up and was so upset that my pubic hair is so grey and sparse. It really made me feel so old and undesirable. Much more than wrinkles or a saggy belly. I really felt OLD. It quite upset me. Anyone relate? What can I do - can you dye them??

OP posts:

I haven't even checked down there in a while. It would involve too much effort to get off the sofa, put specs on and get into contortionist positions.

If it's any consolation bf is much younger than me and has never said I'm repulsive. I don't have a clue if I have any whites.

If you're fretting try some of pp suggestions? He must like you just the way you are though.

MsRosley · 19/05/2023 23:47

Get used to it, OP, and put it out of your mind. There's really no alternative.

God no, why would you?

Same reason she did I guess

quite literally in my case as I might be sleeping with a young un...if I can find the courage! 😂

I've got (had?) PCOS and despite a hysterectomy, have the MOST luxuriant body hair. I'm like teen wolf. I'm looking forward to this mythical sparseness.
I don't think I'll ever look at my pubes without a mental image of Marjorie...

Ha yes I'm also looking forward to some hair loss down there. I think I'm part gorilla!

EmmaEmerald · 19/05/2023 23:51

Gosh, young man of legal age that should say! I didn't realise how awful that sounded!

Fair play to you.

I accepted grey hair on my head about 6 years ago by I’m not comfortable with grey pubes at all. I’m plucking them, when I can face it, for now

MrsMorrisey · 19/05/2023 23:58

Use a trimmer. So you still have a little bit but it's too short to see the colour.
Doesn't itch as it grows back either.

RobertaFirmino · 19/05/2023 23:59

Just trim them shorter, tidy it all up a bit and it will look so much better. No need to shave the lot off.

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 20/05/2023 00:00

Anyone else not sure and off to get a mirror to investigate pube colour and straightness?….

EmmaEmerald · 19/05/2023 23:38

Has anyone actually tried dyeing it? Not including Samantha Jones!

Yes, as per my post above. Mine have been pink, lilac, blue and turquoise amongst other colours.

Unfortunately the Betty dyes I used to buy have been discontinued and are hard to get now, but the Minikini one I recommended is good too if a bit limited colourwise Smile

Bluelightbaby · 20/05/2023 00:45

I use a home laser hair removal and all underarm, leg and pubic hair has gone….

just have to dye my head hair every three weeks though !

Marthadartha · 20/05/2023 00:48

No greys but at 32 I'm totally straight down there Confused

SirVixofVixHall · 20/05/2023 00:55

I don’t have much grey in my head hair at all, but post menopause my pubes have gone sparse, blonder mixed with grey. So weird. And even weirder my armpit hair has almost totally disappeared.

NotMeSecretFormular · 20/05/2023 01:26

So not okay that I have this to look forward to. How do PPs not know or realise? Do you become less acquainted with your fanny past a certain age? Is it like neglecting to check you've adequately included your ankles when you last made a swipe at your legs with a razor? I don't get how this is something you'd have to contort yourself to see (pregnancy aside)? Look down, it's there!

merrymelodies · 20/05/2023 02:06

Ooo! I have this problem too. At least I did until I accepted it as part of aging. I'm more upset about lines, wrinkles and sagging skin! 😂 I did mention it to a friend who's a professional colourist and apparently it's possible to dye your pubes.

Just turn the light off. All cats look grey on the dark

LOL 🤣🤣🤪

AllIeveknewonlyou · 20/05/2023 02:29

@NotMeSecretFormular alright, just for this thread, I did a recce and nothing seems different down there aside from sparcity. Ankles seem fine as well although I'm fairly light haired and haven't shaved in about a year. Hair alright.

It really can't be me who doesn't care about that sort of thing anymore? I still like makeup and facemasks. Looking back 20s were a whirlwind of fake tan, shaving, hair dying etc.

I'm happy nowadays just as I am except miss the freshness of youth.

Yes I don't understand how you'd suddenly only realise something like this either. Surely you'd notice when washing daily etc. I'm not the skinniest person but don't need to bend in funny angles to see it!

This comment has just cheered me up when I'm dealing with yet another sleepless night. Howling 😂

LittleDitto · 20/05/2023 04:23

Why do pubescent go grey before your hair does?

LittleDitto · 20/05/2023 04:24

*pubes

JerkintheMerkin · 20/05/2023 04:32

As shallow and vain as it may seem I refuse to negotiate with grey pubes! I now go for a monthly Hollywood waxing. Job done.
