MIL’s perfume

I have an 8 week old baby that MIL loves to cuddle. The problem is she absolutely reeks of overpowering perfume. It’s really choking and every time she cuddles DS it’s no exaggeration to say he smells of perfume for days afterwards (seriously). He also comes out in a bit of a rash on his face where he lies on her upper chest (no idea if this is the perfume though, I suppose it could be her fabric softener or something).

I realise this is all a bit PFB but I just feel for DS as it’s really very strong and she likes to cuddle him so he is lying facing her with his face pressed into her chest/neck area.

I can’t say anything can I 😬

Simply tell her, nicely, that your baby gets a rash when he's in contact with her perfume. She should realise and understand.

You're old enough to have a baby but not old enough to tell mil her perfume is giving baby a Rash. ???

I'm sure your baby hates having a rash and having to smell that so close. You're his advocate. You should say something. I asked people not to wear perfume if they were handling my small babies. No-one ever had a problem with it.

YANBU. I hated this when DD was a newborn. I remember getting in such a funk when DD started school, came home and didn't smell like "mine" any more
It's so instinctive.

Just tell her the baby is having a reaction to perfume. If she cares at all, she'll stop wearing it around him. If she doesn't, then don't let her hold him. You have all the cards here. Hopefully your husband will back you up?
