Another car parking one but one is abandoned

Wrote a huge thread trying to explain the situation but it got to long and complicated, it basically boils down to this.

Car on the left is parked outside their garage. Car in the middle is parked outside their garage. Both are in a communal spot but, it is mutually agreed that owners of the cars park outside their own garage.

Car on the right is an abandoned car and is owned buy the owner of the car the left. The abandoned car is also in a communal spot.

Communal means shared, no? Surely beneficial to all.

Is it unreasonable of car owner on the left?

NB:- although over grown the greenery on the far right is the land of the car in the middle and will be flatten and veg patch/flowers etc planted soon.

What do you mean by abandoned? Is it SORN? If it is untaxed and SORN'ed then it should be kept on private property and not on public land. Have you asked the owner to move it?

twoshedsjackson · 13/05/2023 12:44

I had an abandoned car outside my house and reported it to the local council; I don't know who shifted it, as I was out at work, but it went.
I never who knew who owned it.

Theunamedcat · 13/05/2023 12:46

If its truly abandoned report it and it will be removed

Plead ignorance to any fall out

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 13/05/2023 12:46

Yep SORN and not secure, mouldy, and all tyres are flat.

Council came round and slapped a notice on it said as it wasn't locked & they could remove it. Owner called the council within the 7 day period and explained it was theirs and would secure it. They haven't. We called the council back who said it doesn't matter as owner has claimed it and as such and because it's not on a residential road there is nothing more they could do.

Yes we have asked it to be moved but the owner refuses to talk to us (we've put to letters through their door too) but we do know the car has sentimental value to them.

Apparently it might get moved to in front of their garage (on the left) when garden works are carried out (round the back of the garage) but no timeframe on that and if anything form past work that was carried out is to go by it will done cheaply and slowly.

We just want to make it look nice to the eye and with our limited space we do have grown a few plants.

We live in a maisonette - we have found floor they have top floor. Shared driveway.

If it's communal like car parking for flats or on some housing estates, then it's a matter for the freeholders or managing agents.

If there aren't any freeholders/managing agents, and it's a free for all between the owners of the two garages, I don't think there's an awful lot you can do apart from asking them nicely to move it or scrap it.

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 13/05/2023 13:07

@LakieLady I fear you are right. I met a friend yesterday who said the same and I agree.

It's so sad when people are so selfish. We offered to help. But until a new car parking space to the right of the garage (that area they own) is reinstated they don't want to park their car on the road. It's a nice wide one with plenty of space.

We just want a nice place for our DC to grown so veggies and for us to sit outback with a relatively nice view.

Ignore the greenhouse which is getting moved as it blew into that place and as I say we will be doing some gardening soon, this is our view from our bedroom window.

We are allocated the bit before their abandoned car and to the right of it. We will just have to 'make nice' as best we can until the works are carried out but fear it'll be another year or longer 😞

All this could be easily sorted if they just spoke to us!

Update:- it’s been nearly a year!!!

So, we cleared the side that is ours and are looking to start growing plants and veggies soon. (We had work being done out the front and driveway which has delayed things).

As you can see if you zoom in the wheel of the blue car (owner of top flat) is slightly on our land and the car is not secure (passenger door opens and doesn’t lock). It feels so intimidating and intrusive.

It infuriates me that I don’t think there is anything we can do and it’s nearly April 2024 nearly a year later from my original post!!

It’s very unappealing to the eye and a health hazard for DC. Is there truly nothing that can be done?

We just want to utilise the little outdoor (back) space which is our only private bit as much as we can. We have some seating we'd like to use and need to figure out a way of making this look nice.

Our boundary goes up to the plant pots too. See pic 3 marked in yellow.

We now need to look into screening this green mouldy rust bucket as I’m feed up looking at it. 😡

Any thoughts?

Pic 3. It wouldn't let me post it with 3 pics before.

A health hazard to your DC? That seems a bit extreme.

😅😅

OP you’ve clearly done what you can and pissed your neighbours off in the process. Like who seriously puts letter through their neighbours door when the council already said there’s nothing that can be done.

You’ve been given the advice of speaking to the freeholders/management.

Is it really impact anything apart from your view? Just put a fence up if the part you want to grow vegetables on is your private land.

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 24/03/2024 14:27

@19lottie82 pretty sure animals are getting in foxes, cats etc and maybe even rats 🤢 council need proof of this though.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 24/03/2024 14:31

I would put it into gear and move it in front of their other car tbh particularly as its partly on your land.

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 24/03/2024 14:32

@RayDelLana no, letters were only put through the door (as she doesn't EVER answer it) before council were even involved. We tried to resolve without getting the council involved first.

Just asking if anyone else had been through a similar situation and managed to get it resolved?

Also stated that we are looking at getting screens.

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 24/03/2024 14:34

@Whatevershallidowithmylife thanks we wish we could but it's completely ceased up. Short of jacking it up on rollers or airbags things it ain't budging. It's been here years apparently. 😞

Flatleak · 24/03/2024 14:34

If it's on your land can't you have it towed?

CloningTheSheep · 24/03/2024 14:36

Offer to buy it and sell it as scrap?

Time40 · 24/03/2024 14:36

I don't understand. They have an old car parked on their own land, is that right? If that's the case, what has it got to do with you, and why do you think they should move it?

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 24/03/2024 14:38

@Flatleak @Time40 no it's communal land

OP posts:
thinkfast · 24/03/2024 14:39

If

DrJoanAllenby · 24/03/2024 14:39

Why don't you grow ivy or other quick growing vines over it and make it a feature?

thinkfast · 24/03/2024 14:40

Posted too soon Angry

If it's communal land then in permanently parking a vehicle on it, they are kind of claiming that section for themselves. Point this out to the freeholders, explain you're entitled to use that land too, and ask the freeholders to move the vehicle.

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 24/03/2024 14:40

@CloningTheSheep thanks yes we tried that. Apparently it has sentimental value 😏 ironic that's it's not been cared for though if that's the case 🤨 it's just been left to rust and she said she would never sell it.

OP posts:
ForTheLoveOfGrace · 24/03/2024 14:41

@DrJoanAllenby 🤣 like the idea of that 👍🏻

OP posts:
ForTheLoveOfGrace · 24/03/2024 14:44

@thinkfast they've tried to reason with her and I think the only way we can get this sorted is if we took her to small claims court. Utterly ridiculous situation.

Looks like plant boxes with trellis shopping it is for us!
