A few weeks ago I picked up an older cat from the local cattery.
He is completely black. He is 16 years old. Nearly blind.
His owner unfortunately passed away he was found left in the house.
She lived on her own. And only 68.
The cattery had his full history, age, name etc from family.

Now to the problem.
He was in our side garden when a lady walked past as I was shouting
to him. His name is BLACKIE.
She was calling me all sorts of names.

How can I change his name at his age.
I'm not sure he will last for years.

I think the Op was hoping we would find it funny

we didn’t

rename
stop shouting at her

Definitely something like that.

If this happened to me, I wouldn’t post it, as I wouldn’t want to put the call out to all the racists. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ktime · 12/05/2023 16:22

Really? Hmm

He is completely black. He is 16 years old. Nearly blind.

Why would you need to call a cat that is nearly blind? Does he go out of the garden?

TakeMe2Insanity · 12/05/2023 16:22

Blake so Blakie.

In s London calling for a cat Blackie when a black person was going past wouldn’t go down well.

🤔 You never thought of changing the name to one that sounded similar/rhymed. Yeah right. These posts get more desperate.

There's bugger all wrong with his name.

Plump82 · 12/05/2023 16:25

I don't think OP was actually shouting AT the cat but maybe calling for him? And it's just the way she's worded it.

PollyPeptide · 12/05/2023 16:28

Just keep his name Blackie in the house and if you call him outside, call him Ackie.

BuffyTheCat · 12/05/2023 16:28

My mum adopted an older cat, and it had the same name as her! So she changed it to something completely different. The cat worked it out after two or three bowls of whiskas.

Yes. The faux naivety. 🙄

red78hot · 12/05/2023 16:30

Mine was called Tiggy, abbreviated to Tig sometimes, if I called Tea! To DP, the cat came running thinking it was for him , I agree changecit to Jackie, mackie, as long as it rhymes or sounds similar.

Lwrenagain · 12/05/2023 16:30

I say this as someone who loves the elderly.

They pick some shocking names for their pets.

mimbleandlittlemy · 12/05/2023 16:37

Mine thinks she is called Dreamies, because when I want to get her in, I rattle the treat tin and call "Dreamies!". I think if you connect food to a name, you'll find an old cat can learn new tricks.

Quite.

You do have to question the intention and motive for threads like this.

Theres definitely something a little off about the thread.

You absolutely weirdo

“you love the elderly”

shudder

Mangogogogo · 12/05/2023 16:57

i can’t believe how many people on here would be happy to keep its name?!

theres no fucking way on god’s earth I would be shouting blackie outside. Why? Maybe it won’t offend anyone but maybe it would? Why do it?

i changed my rescue dogs name (anyone would have!!) and she caught on about 3 hours later. It’s not hard, they don’t know it’s their name, they just know it’s a noise you make whne you want them

MrsDoylesDoily · 12/05/2023 16:59

Yoohoo778611 · 12/05/2023 15:58

@Sunnydayz never thought of that.
I've only got him as at his age it's awful being in a cage.

You seriously didn't think to call it a name that rhymed until someone suggested it on this thread?

Really?

EasterBreak · 12/05/2023 17:27

Hankunamatata · 12/05/2023 17:46

Mackie?

ummWTH · 12/05/2023 19:48

Aren't you a charmer @Dustyourselfoff 😬

Cheesyfootballs01 · 12/05/2023 20:04

Seriously- what is wrong with calling the cat Blackie? It’s a black cat. Black is a colour.

3dogsandarabbit · 12/05/2023 20:07

Can't see the problem, he's a black cat called Blackie, so what, I know someone who had a tabby cat called Tabby and someone else a ginger cat called Ginger. Lazy names but who cares.

If that lady thought you were being racist that's her problem.

ghostyslovesheets · 12/05/2023 20:13

3 adult rescues - Guinness, Bentley and Marlow - coped very well and respond to their new names - Bandit, Ben and Sammy - just change it!
