Is it wasteful to go out for dinner?

We’ve bought meals in for the week but it’s only store cupboard stuff that will keep, ie ingredients for curry, shepherds pie and chilli. It will keep for later meals nothings going off. Neither me nor DH can be bothered to cook after work and I’ve been craving a wagamamas all day. We won’t be able to do this forever as our child-free days are numbered but at the same time I think it’s dangerous to get used to just going out for food at the drop of a hat. What do you think, AIBU to go out

Go out and enjoy your meal.

Leggingslife · 10/05/2023 19:25

Go. Enjoy.

lalalalalalaleeee · 10/05/2023 19:26

Go!!

Jolenetookmyman · 10/05/2023 19:27

If you can afford to and will enjoy it, I don't see the problem?

HigatusFigatus · 10/05/2023 19:27

You already mentioned you haven't bought anything in that you're actually going to waste, so go out and enjoy!

WheelsUp · 10/05/2023 19:27

Go out and enjoy

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 10/05/2023 19:28

Why do you think it would be wasteful?

RitaCrudgington · 10/05/2023 19:28

Have a green fruit juice and a ramen for me.

gamerchick · 10/05/2023 19:29

Meh, make the most of it I say. Enjoy your craving Grin

UsingChangeofName · 10/05/2023 19:29

You've already said that the food you've got in will keep / won't go to waste, so - if you can afford it - what is the problem ?

It's never 'wasteful' to have a lovely evening out with someone you love.

BCBird · 10/05/2023 19:31

Permission granted🤣.

Sissynova · 10/05/2023 19:31

What a weird post! Do you think people with kids never go out for a meal??
Why do you seem to think going out for a meal is a slippery slope? Is this the only time you’ve ever considered eating out because you can’t be bothered to cook?

WheelsUp · 10/05/2023 19:33

What's your usual order OP?

lifehappens12 · 10/05/2023 19:34

Go and enjoy before Children and the sheer luxury of not having to pack all the 'stuff' to take out a child and then spend the whole meal trying to stop your toddler run all over the restaurant.

Yes some children are well behaved. My children struggle to sit still.

NeedToChangeName · 10/05/2023 19:35

I rarely go out for restaurant meals. I do enjoy it, but always seems expensive / not good value for money. And, if you have the wagamama books, you can cook those dishes yourself

But, if you want to go out and can afford it, I don't know why you need permission from strangers on the internet

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 10/05/2023 19:37

It's only wasteful if you don't eat it.

And, if you have the wagamama books, you can cook those dishes yourself.

No, not if you're an amateur chef in an amateur kitchen.

AtChoService · 10/05/2023 19:47

It is never a waste! Go.

loudbatperson · 10/05/2023 19:49

Go! And enjoy.

Don't don't worry, children doesn't always mean no spontaneous dinners out. Lots of children are adaptable to spur of the moment decisions and if they go to restaurants a lot when young they know how to behave in them and it's a fun family experience.

Hardbackwriter · 10/05/2023 19:58

And, if you have the wagamama books, you can cook those dishes yourself

I have the books and a) no you can't, not so they're the same and b) using them to make approximations of my favorites is time-consuming and requires ingredients I wouldn't necessarily have sitting around.

Have a lovely meal OP!

Season0fTheWitch · 10/05/2023 20:22

Obviously you know it's not wasteful.

KohlaParasaurus · 10/05/2023 20:24

Go, and enjoy it, and have a portion of yasai gyoza for me because I don't have a Wagamama close by.

FlyingPandas · 10/05/2023 20:29

Go go go go go go go.

And enjoy.

Pre Dc, DH and I often used to call each other at work and say 'can't be bothered to cook, can you, no, neither can I, shall we go out for dinner?'

Of course you can still go out for meals once you have DC but what we missed the most, in the early years, was the lack of that joyous easy spur-of-the-moment spontaneity. Meals out - with or without DC - will inevitably involve a certain degree of planning and organisation, even if you have willing babysitters and well-behaved babies.

Go out and make the most of it now OP!

ChickpeaPie · 10/05/2023 20:31

What a weird question. Have you ever been out for a meal before?

DanceMonster · 10/05/2023 20:33

Do you go through this level of overthinking every time you go out for a meal?
If you want to, and can afford to, then go. If you can’t or don’t, then don’t.

Skinnermarink · 10/05/2023 20:35

I really cannot fathom having to ask randoms on a forum whether I should go out for dinner or not… I mean for goodness sake. If you want to go out for dinner and have the means go out to bloody dinner! Lots of people do.
