We had quiche, salad and baked potato for lunch.
I offered MIL an omelette for tea and she said it was too main mealy.
I'm wondering now if is too much egg.
I really can't seem to please her.
Minor point I know, but I've had 4 days of her….

…but not eggs 😂

Sewingdufus · 08/05/2023 19:27

Quiche and omelette in a day is too much egg. Sorry. Hope MIL leaves soon.

I would happily have quiche for lunch and omelette for tea, I don't understand this "too many eggs" concept. By that logic, you couldn't have a chicken sandwich for lunch and roast chicken for dinner, or sausages for breakfast and pork chop for lunch...

If you can't please someone, there's no point fretting about it. Just do what you like and let her have a cob on.

I wouldn't do either of those things, lol.

ColouringPencils · 08/05/2023 19:28

Mmm I love eggs. I was just thinking earlier of all the different ways I love egg on toast. I could eat that for any meal. It's a PITA catering for people who don't just say thank you very much.

Casilero · 08/05/2023 19:28

I really want an omelette now. Was it going to be a cheese omelette 😋

Me neither. It's the exact same principle.

Clearly I have no principles...

I'd like to know where you source your eggs in large enough quantities to offer egg based meals throughout the day.

plenty here in Hertfordshire

She probably didn't want to say "God, not more bloody eggs!", op.

Agreed- eggs make many people’s digestive system a bit slow, she probably thought you’d prefer her to say that than announce flatulence and constipation!

If someone else was offering and preparing, I wouldn't complain.

What did she have for tea in the end?

ErrolTheDragon · 08/05/2023 19:33

Too eggy.

When you say 'for tea', do you mean afternoon, high or northern dinner? Too main mealy for afternoon tea for sure, and maybe a bit that way for high.

But definitely too eggy after quiche. Digestive systems don't always cope so well as you get a bit older.

Ponderingwindow · 08/05/2023 19:34

Could someone please explain what “main meal” means?

eggs are one of the foods that best agrees with my digestion so I often happily eat them twice in a day. Quick, clean protein and can be made so many ways.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 08/05/2023 19:34

Perhaps your MIL is used to only eating one main meal a day. I find omelette really filling and as others say - two egg based meals in a day. A sandwich / toast / tin of soup?

11112222 · 08/05/2023 19:36

I know, I know. Too much egg. But I’m so stressed having her here I didn’t really think.
I was thinking what can I give her that’s not too much.
we get given loads of eggs from neighbours by the way! (But also supermarket too.)
im just fed up with her really. My house is not clean enough, bed sheets not fresh enough (fresh on), skirting boards too dirty, I could go on…….
all this is said when Dh is not around of course.
roll on tomorrow.

Oh, well if she's like that eggs on toast for breakfast then! 🍳

PollyPeptide · 08/05/2023 19:42

That's too much egg in a day for old people. Very binding! 🤭

DilemmaDelilah · 08/05/2023 19:46

I think too eggy. I understand why she thought it may have been too main-mealy, as older people quite often have smaller appetites and an omelette would be quite a substantial meal. (I am now an older person and wish my appetite had shrunk! Sadly not...) However she shouldn't have said anything. Maybe do something like soup, or cheese and biscuits or something in future?

PollyPeptide · 08/05/2023 19:47

Beans on toast, cheese on toast, tomatoes on toast, sausage roll with potato salad, tuna melts, toasties...

But honestly, she sounds so rude I don't know why you make any effort whatsoever. Everytime she complains, give her the cleaning tools, and say, thanks so much for pointing that out.
She's a cheeeeeeeky fuckahhh!

ShowUs · 08/05/2023 19:58

Does she not eat meat?

What are you planning for dinner for yourselves?

mrsbyers · 08/05/2023 20:03

I think she’s saying she’s had a main meal
for lunch so would prefer something lighter for tea , omelette is quite heavy and too many eggs can make people ‘egg bound’. Something like a few salad bits and a protein (non egg) maybe or cheese on toast ?

alibongo5 · 08/05/2023 23:12

Bloody hell, an omelette is too heavy for an evening meal?

DanceMonster · 08/05/2023 23:15

EV4ME · 08/05/2023 19:15

I'd like to know where you source your eggs in large enough quantities to offer egg based meals throughout the day.

I got 24 from Tesco this morning. They’re not hard to find.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 08/05/2023 23:41

Why did you want to eat eggs twice in one day? Is it that you have no groceries or are unable to cook due to time or skill? Or simply a big egg fan?

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 08/05/2023 23:46

Oh I just read your second post, her displeasure with your home, sorry. She doesn't sound like she is the best company. What did you give her in the end?
