Dh just got given a shedload of very old gollywog models by FIL, who is cleaning out his loft. Dh reckons there's quite some money involved if a collector wanted them, but I think they're vile, and I would just like to bin them.

Dittany, you do seem to be getting very close to saying that people shouldn't be allowed to think bad things. However unpleasant a person's opinions, the person has a right to hold them.

DIttany, disagreeing with you is not saying you have no right to hold and air your opinion. It's saying I disagree with you.

OK here's what I think about gollys. (Interesting that they are always called gollies now, not gollywogs!)

Personally I don't like them. But even if I did, and if I knew that other people didn't, I wouldn't want my children playing with something that could potentially upset other people. There are tons of different toys in the world - why perpetuate one that could upset someone? It's not as if there's a soft toy shortage!

Bin them - and while you're doing it, lets get rid of Bratz too!

Well that would rather depend on why they were collecting Nazi memorabilia. Surely you don't think that in order to collect a particular set of artefacts you would have to share the opinions of the people who created them?

FWIW the only person I have ever come across who has collected dubious representations of black people was a (black) artist who used them in his work....

I have known various people over the years who collected Nazi memorabilia - some had some very dubious views but two were complete liberals who were just obsessed by every aspect of WW2.

(that was to Dittany's 22.26 post)
