Holiday let with inadequate curtains, AIBU?

MyMarmite · 08/05/2023 08:00

We’ve paid £1,000 for 7 nights in a holiday let. The master bedroom has no curtains or blinds in about 4ft of window and so I am awake early as it’s bright. diagram attached.

it’s an awkward window but I still think it’s unreasonable not to cover it if you’re letting it. This is a professional holiday let.

There are 2 other double bedrooms but dh is in one of them and they are 2 floors down, deliberately, as I snore. So I can’t use the other one as then he won’t sleep because of my snoring.

I’d rather go home than not sleep all week. It’s 2.5 hours away. AIBU?

Blocking out light!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/05/2023 09:49

That over 76 comment and curtains is the best thing I’ve read on here!😂Ive got 2 massive curved bays. It would cost a fortune to put a blind in each of the individual 10 windows. Curtains were much much cheaper.

You can't expect the rooms to be furnished to your taste. You should have looked at the photos.
Personally, I don't know anyone who has curtains who isn't over the age of 76. It's not considered the thing to have in your house.
Buy an eye mask like they used to give out on aeroplanes.

What??!

SayOrPay · 08/05/2023 09:49

ou visit a show home, there will 100% be curtains.
no, definitely not 100%. Ours was the show home!

SayOrPay · 08/05/2023 09:50

And yes @SBHon i get undressed in the dark!

Blossomtoes · 08/05/2023 09:50

Curtain rails are not standard in new builds and we don't have any in ours, MIL had huge issues finding someone to install some in their new place.

That would be because putting up a curtain pole is a DIY job. It’s easier than putting up shelves.

Verbena17 · 08/05/2023 09:51

Could you pop out and buy or Amazon Prime a sleep eye mask?

cadink · 08/05/2023 09:53

I would buy a gro blind from amazon (although I hear Tin foil can work too) and also complain to the owner who might be able to do something before your let finishes

Why not put up some curtains or blinds, then you don’t need to get undressed in the dark?

Did you genuinely believe new builds didn’t have curtains or blinds as they are not fashionable rather than the true reason, it’s cost and you have to pay extra for them?

are you genuinely not putting curtains up as you think it’s unfashionable? And will create a screen when the kids leave home?

LittleBearPad · 08/05/2023 09:54

🤣 at the absolute certainty that curtains are used any more because the builders didn’t put them up. Curtain rails aren’t hard to install.

You have put in furniture? Put pictures on the walls?

What about if you need to change in daylight hours? Or on a summer morning? Without curtains everybody going by on the bus would see adult DS getting out of bed (naked) etc.

Chemenger · 08/05/2023 09:55

I live in a (quite) new build block of flats. Everyone has curtains or blinds.

Reallybadidea · 08/05/2023 09:55

@SayOrPay please can you clarify whether you have blinds of some sort? I find it incredible that a show home had no window dressings at all.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 08/05/2023 09:57

If you wet a sheet of Tin foil it will stick to a window and also works as a great black out blind.

😂 it’s like freaky day on here, read her posts 😂😂😂

LaMarschallin · 08/05/2023 10:00

And yes SBHoni get undressed in the dark!

I'd find that really inconvenient (I'm sure you don't).
But maybe I should take my curtains down and bang about in the dark because that's "the thing" 🤷‍♀️

I'm sure the neighbours will admire how in touch I am and rip down any window coverings they have, because otherwise people will think they're 76 or older, despite mostly being between 20ish and 40ish.

You're not Nicky Haslam, are you, looking for things for next year's tea towel?

Fizbosshoes · 08/05/2023 10:01

I used to work in a curtain shop. Obviously we had to ask everyone for ID when they came in to purchase curtains (to check no sneaky 72 year olds were trying to buy them) 🤣🤣🤣

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/05/2023 10:03

How can you see to get undressed in the dark though?! With an iPhone torch?

It gets light about 5:30 am. Do you get up at 5 to get dressed in the dark? The mind boggles!

My house faces others. If we didn’t have window coverings they’d see everything!

🤣🤣 wtf!

🙄

Blackout blinds here AND curtains.

We love our dark bedrooms that aid sleep.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 08/05/2023 10:03

@SayOrPay are you in the UK? And if so where? And do you really have no window coverings at all? No blinds, no shutters? I often go for a run through residential city streets before sunrise and all the houses and flats have some sort of covering, mostly curtains but some have some sort of blind or shutters.

Reallybadidea · 08/05/2023 10:03

Napoleonsjosephine · 08/05/2023 09:58

I have read her posts, I find it very difficult to believe that a show home had no curtains, blinds or shutters at all. I have never seen this in all my hours of trawling Rightmove.
