To find the media’s portrayal of Kate, Wills and the kids a bit grating

Does anyone find it irritating how the media will take any tiny thing and spin it to fit the narrative of how they want the Wales family to be?

I mean here, William barely glances at Kate and it’s not even clear that he’s looking at her anyway. Yet the media are determined that it’s a “look of love”:

“Prince William glances at Kate with look of love at Westminster Abbey”

They also seem determined for the three children to fit into certain moulds too - George is the serious one, Charlotte is the confident one and Louis is the cheeky one.

My siblings and I had this when I was growing up and I really struggled with it. The more you’re told that you’re the shy one and your brother’s the confident one (for example) the more it becomes ingrained. And we were just an ordinary family, not in the spotlight - for the Waleses it’s magnified a billion times over!

Prince William glances at Kate with look of love at Westminster Abbey

It was a look of love and admiration captured in the blink of an eye. As Prince William entered Westminster Abbey, he glanced over at his wife as if to say he was the luckiest man in the world.

Agree with OP. Can you imagine the angle they would go with it if it was Archie misbehaving…

Sunscummailfail · 07/05/2023 10:49

The standard of journalism is abysmal these days. The Daily Mail called Michael Palin’s rise to fame as “catastrophic” when they meant “meteoric.” Idiots.

MissTrip82 · 07/05/2023 10:54

I’m sure they don’t have the DM on the breakfast table with the kids. It’s such a damaging narrative.

I really wonder how you raise children in an environment in which people applaud when they step out of the car. They seem to be doing a good job.

LadyKenya · 07/05/2023 10:58

It is the trashy Mail. What else would you expect coming from them.

Was Charlotte very rude or was she just a child acting her age? Have you ever seen paps with children? Charlotte will have stuck her tongue out to mimic what was being done by the photographers to her. No one saw them, the adults doing it, but the world got the photograph of Charlotte, a very young child, retaliating and have stated she is rude which the gullible public falls for.

I was referring to when she had to be told not to be rude to members of the public rather than the numerous press pictures of her sticking her tongue out at people tbf.
But yes, as I said, perfectly normal behaviour for children as young as she was at the time and she doesn't do it anymore. I expect Louis will grow out of the fidgeting without needing an -ism label that pp wants to give him as well.

Thepeopleversuswork · 07/05/2023 11:05

Utterly nauseating. I find the general preoccupation with the royal children quite disturbing after what happened with William and Harry. It’s like people have forgotten the impact on these children of everyone feeling like they were entitled to a piece of their lives.

Oftenaddled · 07/05/2023 11:06

I think people (not just the press) are ridiculous about those children.

George is serious, anxious etc - he's not a performing seal. Why should he strut and smile to make people think he'll make a good and happy king. To assuage collective guilt at pushing the role on him?

Charlotte is confident, Louis is cheeky - developmentally normal. They're well tutored, not precocious, kids. Has nobody here seen children change as they grow up? I have known dozens of these "types", and they're not cast for life.

Hope they grow up well and happy. I do enjoy seeing them, as it happens. But we don't know them now, never mind what they'll become.

lollipoprainbow · 07/05/2023 11:06

Agree it's nauseating.

Spectre8 · 07/05/2023 11:22

Hilarious how when its will and Kate and their children, everyone competing the papers...yet a certain other couple and its blatantly their fault not the media of course.

Well, clearly the initial headline wasn’t enough as it’s now been updated to “a couple more in love than ever”! I’m quite impressed at the DM’s ability to know that from just one fleeting image. I hope they’re right in their assessment as William and Kate seem like a lovely couple.

I don’t follow them much if I’m honest but I saw an article saying how much Charlotte looks like Diana.
She doesn’t look like her at all!

No, Charlotte and George are all Windsor and Louis is all Middleton. None of them look like Diana.

Yes I wondered whether that might be the case.

mydogisthebest · 07/05/2023 11:57

The Mail act like Kate is such a saint. So perfect looking, wonderful figure and so moneysaving because she wears an outfit twice!

I should hope she would wear an outfit more than once considering how much they cost.

I don't know whether her and William are madly in love and don't much care. I also doubt that anyone at The Mail know.

Manichean · 07/05/2023 12:00

Right wing press big up Kate as a way of hating Megan - utterly pathetic misogynistic nonsense.

Daftnotstupid · 07/05/2023 12:07

If we are honest Meghan does a good job of showing herself up to be a fool without any assistance from the press

Fififafa · 07/05/2023 12:08

The DM are obviously pushing this whole “Wills and family good, Harry and family bad”’narrative.
However they apparently run a story yesterday comparing Kate’s outfit to Rose Hanbury(Cholmondeley)’s. I’m assuming they were insinuating she copied her so called love rival’s dress and shoes?
Now that did surprise me. They never seem to print anything negative about William.

SugarAndSpike · 07/05/2023 12:09

When I saw this look of love photo I couldn't figure out what his legs were doing.

A look of love with your legs spread yum yum

There are no pictures of Archie.

Oftenaddled · 07/05/2023 12:13

Stimming would be a normal way for a child of Louis's age to ward off boredom and keep focus. It's not - necessarily - about neurodivergence at his age, especially at these long formal events. Can be, but often wouldn't be.

You don't diagnose kids based on their behaviour in unusual environments. We don't know these children.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 07/05/2023 12:14

Actually Louis is old enough to cover his mouth when he yawns.

hereiamagainn · 07/05/2023 12:15

It’s just the Daily Mail and other crappy gossip rags, not “the media”.

This is why Megan stayed away- the DM really need something else write about.
