Husband sulking at the coronation

so i’m not a huge royalist but I’m really into history and this is a historic day. I said to my husband a couple of weeks ago, I know you’re not into it so would you mind watching/occupying the kids while I watch it.
He’s got up this morning and said I’ve changed my mind I’m going to help my brother today, all day. I basically told him no chance, help him any other day but I want a few hours to watch the coronation uninterrupted. Cue him stropping around the house, snapping at me and the kids, not going out with them til 1pm and moaning its a waste of everyones time.
I very rarely ask him to look after the kids for a few hours, whereas he springs that stuff on me most weekends without notice. Its REALLY annoyed me. He’s usually a good if grumpy at times partner and dad. So am I bring unreasonable or is he acting like a total bloody arse?!

Why do women always come out with the same shitty-arsed wanky bullshit ... 'but he's a good dad' (and a good partner...) NO, he is NOT! He is a fucking control freak, he is a manipulator and he is a dickhead. He had no intention of looking after his OWN CHILDREN and letting you watch the Coronation in peace @NapoliTutti

I would be looking into binning this loser if I were you. Don't spend your whole life with him. You will regret it deeply when you're 55-60 and it's too late to leave and start over (and yes it IS too late then, before anyone says anything!)

He won't change, indeed he will get worse.

@NightIsYoungSoAreWe

I actually think this is controlling and abusive.... Leading you on with the plan then changing at the last minute - so you are the one who suffers and cant do what you want just so he can do what he wants, he values his own wants over yours..

Then he sulks and acts like a dick when you rightfully put your foot down. And all of this in front of children.

100% this. ^

Thanks yeah I agree. Im a firm believer in letting him have his space and stuff but it does have to work both ways. To be fair he has just text to apologise for being unreasonable and ‘sulking like a child.’

Has he really though? Hmm Even if this IS true, so what? Doesn't change the fact he acted like a dickhead, and ruined your day. He will do it again, and again, and again, and you will let him... Also, he has done it before.... hasn't he? Many times.

Apologising is the least he should do!

Either way it sounds as if you didn't get to watch in peace so he achieved his goal which makes his apology pretty meaningless.

finallygotospeaktoSky · 06/05/2023 17:15

I don't understand why people can't apologise face to face when it's practical / possible. Texting seems a weak way out and insincere, more 'I've done that and now going to up date fb/ check the football' .
Are people setting the bar lower nowadays ?
Lack of actual speaking to each other seems to cause a multitude of problems and angst on Mn.

billy1966 · 06/05/2023 17:25

@DannyZukosSmile good post.

Why are always the laziest most selfish fathers on MN called good dads?

He's an utter loser.

And I agree with the abusive tag.

Having a strop in front of the children having agreed to mind them once, because you wouldn't allow him to behave like his normal selfish self?

Nasty loser.

Poor children.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 06/05/2023 18:15

Seeing as he didn't leave with the kids until after the crowning bit was done, did you actually get to watch any of it? Or was it pretty much spoilt for you? Not much good chucking a "sorry" your way, he needs to make it up proper.

Otherwise he'll pull this any other time you might have arranged for yourself and think texting sorry at you later makes it all better.
