Oh fuck I forgot to vote

Left home for work before 7am have s long commute and the car is messing up a previous back injury so came home exhausted and in pain.

I just completely and utterly forgot.

I do vote count/opening and we just put spoilt ballots in a pile, the electoral officer checks they aren’t valid, counts them. No one reads them, or shows them to anyone.

They should be shown to candidates and agents so they can agree they are a spoilt vote.

@ChairFloorWall because there can be some doubt as to a voters intent and a candidate may argue that in fact it is a vote for them - I have seen it happen once or twice in 20 odd years of attending counts and other candidates did agree it was in fact a valid vote.

Anyway it means that all those people who take the effort to write a little essay on the paper or draw a picture aren't wasting their time and the message gets to the person it was intended for. I've always rather enjoyed reading them - it's amazing what people can convey on a ballot paper Grin
