To think I can’t be bothered to fight for a £25K a year job?

Teamscreen · 04/05/2023 15:32

My manager lied and said I’d nothing all year (if that was the case he never told that to me, sent warnings and rightfully I would have been sacked but I never even had an informal/formal meetings). The head of department has a very bad view of me having only heard my manager lie to save his poor actions of not training me.

I did work, but it’s a struggle when you’re self trained in a role you’ve never done before. My manager never checked my work, never asked me what projects I was doing etc.

I have now been told I need to show I’m worth employing, I need to put in extra work, go above and beyond and I might be lucky enough to be rated as average. Literally. Like they want to me to fight for something that I’m being paid for £12K below the average of that job.

It is hard to judge if your work is satisfactory or not and if your manager is being unfair. If you feel you are underpaid and unappreciated then look for another job.

OP if your work performance is anything like your posts here, I can see why you're having issues.

How about you write using sentences and paragraphs the actual problem, and maybe people could help you

Or even try that at work!

Do you get a kick out of being so rude and condescending?

OP, your posts make total sense to me. Ignore the idiots who are trying to embarrass you about grammar.

What field of work do you do OP? Is it worth looking elsewhere? Because I wouldn’t be putting up with this shit. I’d be straight to HR and ask for your line manager for a formal meeting with a union rep present.

Timesawastin · 04/05/2023 17:38

If this is an attempt at grammar correction, you're wrong. 'I had done', not 'I had did'...

Done relates to before then, did relates to before now... Though maybe the OP's manager has decided she's did better since he spoke to her? 😂

AskMeMore · 04/05/2023 18:04

OP post on netmums for support. Mumsnet is fun to waste time but terrible for support. It is full of horrible women who enjoy feeling superior to anyone who is struggling.
In terms of your OP it depends how much you need the job. Are there lots of jobs where you live so that you can quickly get another job?

Brefugee · 04/05/2023 18:04

you're in a union, right?

"My manager lied and said I’d nothing all year"
What is this even supposed to mean?!

It means her manager lied and said she hasn’t done anything all year which she obviously doesn’t agree with because she believes she has done a lot but her manager doesn’t check her work or even take the time to train her.

Stop being unnecessarily pedantic.

God you people are mean.

Yes this. What is wrong with some people

weebarra · 04/05/2023 18:49

Tbh it wasn't clear to me to start with either, but OP, that sounds like a rubbish situation.
I would start looking for another job and when you hand in your notice, cc in your line manager, senior manager and HR to say that you have never had the training expected. Then at least they might be aware of the situation if it happens again.

If you have been there for less than 2 years they can just sack you.

No they can’t.

Thank you, I just posted out of upset and knew it was a mistake. Not because people don’t agree with me but this forum is a place where bitter people lurk ready to pounce.

I don’t know, I just need to leave I guess. It’s not going to get better. Thanks for being kind to me.

I'd leave. No point in working for an arsehole boss who throws you under the bus even if you were paid the going rate.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/05/2023 19:13

The people lacking cognitive abilities on this thread are the ones who don't understand that OP missed one word out of her first sentence. You poor things.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/05/2023 19:14

Yanbu OP. But I would fight to clear my name, not necessarily for the job. Just don't go down without documenting the complete lack of management from your line manager.

ilovesooty · 04/05/2023 19:19

Teamscreen · 04/05/2023 18:58

No they can’t.

I'm afraid they can just let you go unless there's a protected characteristic involved.

Yes, this, which is why I suggested thinking about protected characteristics if you've been there for a shorter time. They don't even have to give a reason if you've been there less then 2 years, unless it is a very special sort of job like an apprenticeship.

Horseyhorsey3 · 04/05/2023 19:52

If you've been there less than 2 years then unfortunately yes they can sack you.

Casilero · 04/05/2023 20:08

I understand your post - there was no need for snide comments.

I would probably just look for something else though. You're not going to be happy with such a shit manager and no training.

BartsLongLostBro · 04/05/2023 21:34

Agree with @FrostyFifi

OP, I hope you will find somewhere that you are valued very soon. I wonder why your manager has started saying this, is it out the blue? What field?

I think it’s because I told him how I felt and how miserable I found it, which probably panicked him and he’s badmouthed me to people. He’d never questioned my performance until this point.

I’ve since found out that he’d said I didn’t do anything all year, when if that were true why did it take him the whole year to say something. Doesn’t look great for a manager to have someone apparently severely underperforming and they let it continue for a year.

He was suppose to let me shadow him and he wouldn’t allow it and had me shadow a different colleague. Which sounds fine but ultimately the person I shadowed does a different category to me and each category has different processes.

OrangeBlossomTime · 05/05/2023 06:15

Can you leave op?
It sounds like a toxic workplace.

AAAAABBBBBCCCCC · 05/05/2023 06:29

God you people are mean.

Agreed. No need.

Cracklecrack · 05/05/2023 07:20

Have you asked for support in that part where you were ‘self taught’?

honeslty I feel your pain. I started quite a practical job effectively remotely about a year ago. Quite frankly it’s been awful- and I don’t think my workplace has stepped up enough or offered anyway near enough training/ support.

But I’m quite a determined person and have made sure I’ve put requests for support in writing on teams….. so I have a paper trail of asking for support if ever someone turns round and says I’m a bit shit.

I wish I’d have written down the things I’d been told (“this is the same job you did before “, “yup no you’re fine” with no offer of spending some time on it with me/ directing me to anywhere when I’ve said I don’t understand something etc.)

I would start job hunting. But in the meantime I’d write down the things that are said/ done that aren’t right,.

Food luck x
