AIBU to suggests cafes should have to cover their food?

There's a cafe in my local park that I go to with my dc.

They sell lovely cakes and usually have around 5 an the counter.

However I hardly ever end up buying them as they are left uncovered.

AIBU to suggest every food establishment should cover the food they are selling?

If anyone knows if I can report to the food standards agency please let me know

Check the hygiene rating for the cafe. We were brought up to always wash hands before eating, before cooking and after using the toilet. Our local cafe in the community centre took away cutlery and give it to you with food, the cafe in the garden centre used to be self service, now you order, and they bring it to your table. More places have stricter regulations post covid.

Totally agree OP, I won't buy cakes that have been on the counter, apart from flies I don't want people sneezing/coughing over my food 🤢

I've read about half the thread, I don't think it's ideal to have the cakes uncovered or accesible by the general public. In M&S bakery counters, they also have the stuff uncovered in wooden display counters which are self service. They have giant pretzels hanging from wooden hooks, and break also uncovered.

OP, you have a child, they are always covered in poo particles. I would never eat uncovered cakes in case a child had touched them.

To all those mocking the OP. Uncovered good in a public area is bound to be contaminated from coughs, sneezes, even skin particles. If you want to eat said food be my guest. I choose, like the OP, to not eat them

The issue with the OP (the fart bit put aside), is that they are not just choosing not to eat the cakes. That’s what I would do, and what ‘normal’ people do. If you don’t like it, no problem, don’t buy/eat it, no one is forcing you. Instead, OP is throwing a tantrum and wanting someone to make them do things differently. Why? Just don’t buy the cakes. That’s why OP is getting the stick.

Oh do be quiet my dear.

I don't see why they would not cover them. It should really be mandatory. I am guessing a lot of people are put off and it must lose them business.

@Wallabyone I noticed this too. I did see a woman ask there if she could have one from behind the counter.

I agree and wouldn’t want them either, maybe send an anonymous email with a link to this thread, they can see how many people would be put off by it.
