How old should a child be before they can be left unattended in a bath?

The reason I'm asking is because I went over to my friends house today, who has a four year old daughter. I asked my friend where her daughter was and she said that her DD was in the bath. I asked if her DD was on her own and my friend replied that she was. I then spent our whole conversation feeling uncomfortable and constantly asking my friend if she was going to check on her daughter, and even offered to check on her myself. My friend said that her DD loves bath time and was probably up there "having fun" and said I was being dramatic about the whole thing. AIBU to be concerned about a 4 year old left unattended in a bath for a long period of time or is this perfectly normal?

Oh god I remember a thread like this before where a poster would go and check on their 18 year old!

Right?!
I dont remember exactly when we started doing it on our own, but probably around age 5. But I dont even remember many baths at that age. We were always a shower family.
How are people checking in on pre teens?!?

All this sounds bizarre my DD demanded to get changed in private when she was around 6 on holiday. When they become aware of bodily privacy it's time to take a step back unless they have epilepsy etc.

Started at about 8yrs old but still upstairs usually putting the laundry away.

I was thinking 6/7 would be ok to start leaving the room and pottering about on the same floor. Before that, definitely in the room.

I still potter on the same floor within earshot with my 9 yo- thats when washing gets put away!

9 yo is still happy for me to come into the room though - I have asked him if he wants privacy but he often wants me to come in to chat. At some point soon I’m sure he’ll want his privacy.

My just turned 5yo manly has baths with me by the side but I sometimes duck out to find pyjamas, water bottle etc. Never for more than a few minutes at a time. There is no way I would put her in the bath in a kind of "have fun see you in 10-15 minutes" way.

Your friend is BU.

I wouldn't leave my 4 year old at all! I shout through the door to my 10 year old now, sometimes he likes the leave the door open and have me sat in the hallway so we can chat.

4 is far to young imo
