To say it goes downhill in your late thirties?

Almost 38 and over the past year or so noticed-
Thinning hair to the point where even my hairdresser asked why it was like that.
Some grey pubes.
A stomach that is starting to resemble a beer belly despite me being teetotal and eating sensibly.
A double chin. See the above.
Fine lines around the eyes.
Feel like my best days are over and there's no point in even trying to look good now. Aibu to say if anyone else noticed a real decline in their looks from late thirties?

Nah. I mean at 43 I am fatter and greyer than ever. And I have plenty of wrinkles and my rosacea is consistently worse than ever. But life is good. Grey hair and red, wrinkly skin just doesn't really matter. I'm aging very cheerfully

Dweetfidilove · 02/05/2023 20:13

Almost 42 and not yet.
Hoping the aging process as well as the menopause will be as kind to me as it has been to my momma 🙏🏾.

lljkk · 02/05/2023 20:14

Some of us started at bottom of the hill anyway.

Kyse · 02/05/2023 20:35

Not really, I'm 39
No greys, no lines. Do have some hair loss but that's from medication, so I've been doing some hair treatments to help!

Chlobo89 · 02/05/2023 20:41

I’ve always been fat and ugly so i have nothing to lose 😂

BounceyB · 02/05/2023 20:43

Nope. In my 40s and I feel as good as I did in my 20s - maybe a bit more tired though 😫

NeedToChangeName · 02/05/2023 20:44

My life improved beyond measure from aged 36 onwards

Looks aren't everything, and it's a gradual change anyway

Twilightstarbright · 02/05/2023 21:01

It’ll be the methotrexate. I was on it for 3 years and switched to a biologic and I look like I’ve unaged 5 years.

Lottapianos · 02/05/2023 21:04

'Not at all. I'm 43 and feel very happy with how I look.'

Exactly the same for me. I work at it - gym, sleep, eating with a focus on nutrition most of the time, water, watching the booze and sugar - but it feels great and is so worth it

Hanna86 · 02/05/2023 21:07

I'm your age. Currently I believe Botox is the key 😅

Uurrjb · 02/05/2023 21:07

Rapid decline from about 35

loss of elasticity in skin
permanently exhausted
very heavy periods kicked in
greying thinning hair
crepe skin on neck / huge pores
Heavier around bottom half
ugh

ISpyNoPlumPie · 02/05/2023 21:07

I feel better now at almost 38 but in my teenage years, I had horrific acne. Anything is better than that - fine lines, thinning hair, grey pubes! I also have the time and money to look after myself better now that I’m not a poor student/pregnant/breastfeeding/looking after a toddler. Your medication is probably not helping (can you talk to your doctor about that?), and/or your mood is low. What would help you to feel better? Regular exercise, a spa day, hair cut and colour, a new dress etc.? Full disclosure I have Botox in my frown lines and I feel so much better about myself for it.

choccytime · 02/05/2023 21:08

I started taking collagen capsules mainly as I thought it woud help my skin . The best thing was my hair stopped falling out . I used to wash my hair and loads would come out . or I would find loads wrapped round the roller on the hoover .not any more its not cheap but brilliant

Uurrjb · 02/05/2023 21:09

What’s that about methotrexate???

hair fell out…raging anaemia

constant mild cold symptoms

exhausted

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 02/05/2023 21:18

Came on here to say what? Methotraxate!? I'm 43 and have been on it about 3 years as well, I've been looking a bit duller and dowdier of late but figured maybe it's age, maybe it's me being a night owl and not getting to bed, maybe it's perimenopause etc...never thought methotraxate had side effects like that!

I feel better in myself with exercise for sure, also I get botox for crows feet, because they were so bad, they aged me terribly!

Hi, fellow rosacea sufferer here! Out of interest did you ever try Soolantra? I am prescribed it and it's literally changed my life and made my rosacea so much better! Redness pretty much gone, same with lumps and bumps! I noticed an improvement after a week for sure.

midlifecd · 02/05/2023 21:32

I'm 38 and I hear you op
Mine is less about my looks but more that I'm just bored with life now
I hit all the milestones and now it's like.. what next? What else do I want to accomplish with my life?

No. I went on the antibiotic recommended, oxy something? for my wedding 14 years ago and that worked brilliantly. Didn't come back for a year after I stopped taking it.

Couldn't really be arsed doing anything again after that though. This Soolantra looks interesting, do you have to keep it up forever though? I'm far too lax with any kind of routine if that's needed for it to be effective!

Depressed102 · 02/05/2023 22:05

I haven't even hit any of the milestones we are all meant to make so don't even have that.
Forgot to mention that as well as all of the above in my original post, my periods are also a lot lighter and pre menstrual symptoms a lot worse.
I am nearly 40 and am on a heavy medication so not abnormal as am not young anymore. But it is depressing. Especially when I see others my age with thick and gorgeous hair, no lines around their eyes and toned bodies.

ASGIRC · 02/05/2023 22:45

Not for me. Im 40 and while I have a few extra pounds that Id love to shed (but have no motivation to do it), I feel and look great.

I have some greys, but theyre hidden by very bold blue hairdye.

I definitely dont look my age and keep forgetting that Im not 25 anymore.

Long may it continue!

AtSomePointInLife · 02/05/2023 22:53

It was 42 for me, I'm 49 now and feel and look much better. I think I've got over the fact I'm ageing and there's nothing I can do about it. Also happy and thankful I'm healthy.

No alcohol helps.

Catsmere · 02/05/2023 23:00

No, it was menopause in my 50s that did it. Still have good thick hair I’m glad to say, it’s just a blah sort of grey-white. My only real (self-induced) problem is weight gain.

SlB09 · 02/05/2023 23:08

39 here and YES!!!! definate move to looking more 'grown up' and less of the proper youthfulness. I think it's the loss of being a 'young un' that gets me. Yes I get the whole perspective thing and it is young in the grand scheme but you do become part of the lost generation that nobody takes a second look at anymore
