To ask for your waters breaking experience

I'm 35+2 and just felt a little pop and hot liquid running down my leg. It wasn't loads but enough to make me go wash off and put clean pj bottoms on.

I had a scan and consultant today for a low lying placenta but found out today that it's moved and I can go ahead with a vaginal birth so I'm booked to be induced on my due date as I've got a complicated history of miscarriages and gynae problems.

TMI but DH and I had sex about an hour ago (nothing strenuous!) and I went straight to the toilet/had a wash straight after so I know it's not anything leakage wise 🤦🏻‍♀️

I feel silly calling hospital as it wasn't a huge amount and I'm not in any pain.

Any experience anyone? Thanks

I would give your hospital a call and see what they say, just to put your mind at rest!

Toobusytowee · 26/04/2023 22:02

I think you should call the midwives and ask for their advice. If it is your waters breaking they will need to know about it. I don’t think you’ll learn anything useful from hearing people’s stories here.

ChopperC110P · 26/04/2023 22:02

When your waters break there is no pain. So yes you should call the hospital and get checked.

Wokeuptired · 26/04/2023 22:02

I have had 2 births after sex so best get it checked out as you are a tad early

melisma · 26/04/2023 22:02

Why wouldn't you call the hospital? I would've thought this was exactly the kind of situation where they would want you to contact them! Good luck (and congratulations on your pregnancy).

Hankunamatata · 26/04/2023 22:03

You need to call hospital and get checked asap

HowBeOn · 26/04/2023 22:03

I’d phone and see what they say. My waters broke before I went in to labour and they told me to come in so they could check that’s what it was. I ended up being induced as I still hadn’t gone into labour and they don’t like to leave it too long after waters gone due to infection risk. Good luck! X

Are you certain it's not sex juice?

When mine went they didn't stop, it was a continuous trickle until the birth. Put a pad on and see. My waters were pale pink.

Thedogscollar · 26/04/2023 22:05

Midwife here. Please call your maternity triage now. They should invite you in check you over and if srom is confirmed you will discuss with doctor the plan for ongoing care.
Please do this now. Goodluck.

Bloopsie · 26/04/2023 22:06

Think sex can sometimes trigger labour especially if your partner ejaculated inside you, something to do with hormones from sperm.

Defintaly call your MAU and take your bags along in case they keep you in. Good luck!

Agree with this, especially given that you mention a "pop".

NoLostCause · 26/04/2023 22:12

Mine went a little bit at first, I went in and once they'd confirmed it was definitely my waters breaking they wanted to induce within 24 hours if nothing had happened naturally to prevent risk of infection. I'd go in and get it checked out as soon as you can.

Sometimes the head drops down far enough to plug it up. Happened with my second. He'd been engaged for ages without me knowing, because it was so gradual!

My first was very dramatic and I lost most of it in seconds because she was breech in a sitting Buddha position, so easy draining.

Op, definitely get checked. Infection is a risk.

lalalalalala123 · 26/04/2023 22:16

My waters breaking were exactly like u describe, a pop. Good luck OP!

Same for me. I got a little over 24 hours (but within 48 hours).

Anoisagusaris · 26/04/2023 22:28

I woke to a ‘pop’, ran to the loo and absolutely flooded the place! No pain at all. Got cleaned up/changed, put a pad in and went downstairs for some tea. Stood up again after a while and flooded the kitchen this time!

Joeylove88 · 26/04/2023 22:32

Yes my waters breaking were like a pop aswell. It was quite funny looking back I was trying to go to the toilet after having just arrived at the hospital and at this point i was in full on labour without even realising it (despite the pain) then my waters broke into the toilet bowl and all over my leggings. It was quick and not as much water as I expected there to be but it's definitely worth calling the hospital as it sounds like waters breaking.

NoIncomeTaxNoVAT · 26/04/2023 22:32

Please call the number on your notes and get checked. My waters broke at 5am when i got up thinking i needed a wee and there was a gush into the loo. I was told if labour didnt start within 24 hrs i would be induced due to infection risk so important they know what is happening. Dont forget your bag - i was admitted on the spot as my BP had gone very high and i hadnt finished packing the hospital bag at home which meant DH had to finish unsupervised 🙄🤯

Hotpinkflamingo · 26/04/2023 22:32

My waters broke at 33+1 weeks with a pop and a gush of warm liquid. I had it confirmed at my local hospital and had steroid injections that night. I gave birth 13 days later to my DS.

Definitely get checked out, good luck OP!

Crikeyalmighty · 26/04/2023 22:37

Mine broke at 38 weeks when I got up to go to the loo- I hadn't experienced it before as previous 2 were hugely overdue inductions.

Went straight to Whittington and they kept me in and said if I didn't go into labour within 48 hours they would induce-which is exactly what happened

Giggorata · 26/04/2023 22:43

My waters broke first in both cases, my first overnight and the hospital gave me a dye for my urine, to ensure I wasn't peeing myself because it was early!
The second one went with with a big pop, then galoosh.

NaNaNaNaNaNaBaNaNa · 26/04/2023 22:46

I had a "slow leak" at 36 weeks. The main reason I ended up with a c-section at 36+6.

Best to get it checked out. It's a simple wee test, maybe a follow-up doppler to see if it's leaking, but they don't like it leaking too long because of the risk of infection.

WeekendInTheBoondocks · 26/04/2023 22:47

I went to bed and as I was drifting off, I felt a big pop and a gush of water.. got up and flooded the place, which continued for hours, just an endless cycle of gushing water! I soaked my house and then my clothes and then the hospital bed. I have birth the following lunchtime. Good luck!

NaNaNaNaNaNaBaNaNa · 26/04/2023 22:48

Just to say, I didn't even know I was leaking until the midwife told me. I was moist, but I'd been pretty moist for the whole pregnancy and didn't notice a big increase. 🤷🏻‍♀️

PurpleFlower1983 · 26/04/2023 22:50

With my second this happened, I was putting the roast dinner in and had a little trickle. Got checked out but it was hard to tell if it was my waters because there was so little. Contractions started later that night and I had him at 7am the next morning.
