AIBU to wear a red dress with blue shoes?

Okay SO trivial I know but I am torn! I really want these shoes (or the dupes which are a lot cheaper) but most of my formal dresses are bright, lipstick red. I feel like the clash would look fine so long as I keep other accessories minimal but I'm a bit concerned I'll look a complete plonker. Help!

I think it’s the perfect excuse to get a new dress as well!

electriclight · 27/04/2023 06:33

Clashing can look great but those shoes will look daft with a bright red dress. You need a new dress if you love the shoes.

I love a clash of colour myself BUT I do think the tones need to match ie pastel with pastel and bold with bold.

I think as nice as these shoes are, they seem too wishy washy a colour to go with a bright red. IMO.

This

mischlerischler · 27/04/2023 06:40

Love the shoes. I think it would depend on the dress style not just colour.

JudgeRudy · 27/04/2023 06:43

Not for me no. I don't necessarily think you have to wear red (or black neutral) however I think if you're wearing bright red you need another bright colour to 'clash'. I think this sky blue is too 'pastelly'. I'm wearing navy trousers and top now with a red cardigan so navy would look good, as would a bright blue as per union jack but this blue is just too wishy washy. Do the shows come in other colours eg emerald or yellow?

Hanna86 · 27/04/2023 06:55

I'm into it. Great colour combo

Bigoldmachine · 27/04/2023 07:15

I love pale blue and red, it can totally go. Especially at Christmas 👌

agree it depends on the style of the dress to some extent

Bigoldmachine · 27/04/2023 07:15

Also disagree with a pp that black goes with everything!!

weeducky · 28/04/2023 20:34

Ok so I got them in a nude colour to not clash but I'm still craving the blue and they're so comfortable I feel I need them in every colour. Anyway, I recommend!

You don't have to agree; black is a neutral. 🤷‍♀️

ichundich · 28/04/2023 21:30

Great for the coronation ;-).

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 28/04/2023 21:47

I tend to think it isn't generally the red / blue thing so much as the strength and intensity of the colours so these would pair well with a floaty pastel pink , and a lipstick red can go well with a strong navy blue. But in this instant i think that the shoes are almost so pale as to treated like a neutral silver / white in comparison to the lipstick red and definitely could work especially if you can echo the shade somewhere like bag / earrings / hair accessories or even eye shadow?

You’re good to go, op.

What has this outfit got to do with a red dress and blue shoes? Confused

Don’t pretend to be obtuse. It was a lighthearted reply that yes op can wear the shoes because it will look a lot better than a celebrity, or anyone really, wearing even more mismatched shoes.

This pic just came out and I immediately thought of it when I read the op.

You seriously do not understand how someone wearing mismatched shoes can relate to the op wearing mismatched shoes??

Sure.

your weirdly overly defensive rant made me assume I’d missed that she was wearing 2 different shoes so I went back to look but no she’s literally just wearing a black dress and pink shoes Confused

Shoes mismatched with the dress, not with each other 🙄

You’ve got problems I can’t help you with. Good luck.

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 29/04/2023 03:26

Usually a mismatch looks good. It really depends on the overall 'look'

Stripycatz · 29/04/2023 03:52

Get the blue ones. Life's too short not to wear the shoes.

MysteryBelle · 29/04/2023 04:00

They are pretty shoes. I’d get the blue ones too, maybe later get a dress to go with them.

LlynTegid · 29/04/2023 06:29

For me it is the shoes- just takes one puddle or a bit of rain and I can imagine how bad they'd look.

DriedFlowersLiveForever · 29/04/2023 07:39

Lipstick red and navy blue absolutely but definitely not with those shoes!
Also, with the mismatching thing...I have a friend who is really interested in fashion and can totally pull off some weird combos but she has thought* *about everything she has on that day (not just, I like these shoes and only have red dresses so sod it I'll wear them 😉) I also have other friends (and myself) that would look like we had been skip diving and come up with an outfit if we dressed like fashionista friend!!!
Might be worth honestly thinking about which category you fall into before you buy the shoes! (Unless you don't care whether you look like you have been skip diving, obviously just buy them if not!!)

sofamarathon · 29/04/2023 08:19

They look like bridesmaid shoes

Whwre would you wear these?

I wonder if mumsnet is the place for you if you get this salty about someone disagreeing with you?

Glitterblue · 29/04/2023 12:03

I think if you love the shoes then get them. Life is too short not to get /wear things you love. DD’s teacher wears BRIGHT pink lipstick with red clothes and her clothes always clash with each other, but that’s just who she is, I can’t imagine her any other way!

😳 apart from your unnecessary rudeness, black goes with every colour under the sun (except maybe navy). If you don’t understand that, just say
