Gigihadr · 26/04/2023 00:40

Tory MP. Told me the NHS should be gotten rid of and we should be charging for healthcare

I was horrified AIBU?

Who is your MP?

Tory. Why are you surprised?
They've always wanted this.

Gigihadr · 26/04/2023 00:46

I feel so powerless. I live in a town that tends to vote Tory. Next general election is next year but even then my town is considered a Tory safe seat. Honestly it was infuriating

Saschka · 26/04/2023 00:49

YABU to be surprised - they all think that, some of them are just better at paying lip service than others. Why do you think it is being run into the ground? Why do you think Tory politicians spend so much time being wined and dined by US healthcare companies?

YANBU to think your MP is a tosser.

MP is being a bit delusional.

What will happen is a public-private model like they have in Australia.

There is no choice now because of the 7M+ waiting list.

This needs to be wittled down as fast as possible and the NHS won't be able to do it quickly enough. There are just not enough Drs and nurses right now and many people are up against the clock.

End result will be having a GP that is NHS (mostly), with private GPs (like we have now), with specialty medicine being covered also mostly privately. Also, prescriptions being "free" will be evaporating for most people (this is ludicrous now because you have wealthy pensioners getting free prescriptions which is not fair or viable).

Gigihadr · 26/04/2023 00:54

They also told me it doesn’t matter than doctors/ nurses are leaving as they can be replaced by AI / robots…. Honestly where do I start

EustaceTheMonk · 26/04/2023 01:00

What does he mean by "privatised"?

CoozudBoyuPuak · 26/04/2023 01:01

The NHS spends about £3,500 per head of population.

Meanwhile in America the average health insurance plan apparently (according to google) is about $7300ish which is about £6200. Assuming about 20% of that is profits of the insurance firms and administrative costs of the bureaucracy and that's still about £5000 being spent on actual healthcare.

If taxes were raised sufficiently that the nhs got £5000 per head to spend it would be totally thriving, efficient and effective.

I wonder if, when I am forced to start spending £6200py on a health insurance policy, I will get a tax cut of the £7500ish that is the slice of the taxes I pay that eventually makes it to the nhs (apparently about 20% of the tax take) - I would be better off if so! But I doubt that will happen.

CoozudBoyuPuak · 26/04/2023 01:03

Oh hang on. I shouldn't do maths while tired. My contribution to the NHS is a lot less than that and I wouldn't be in profit. Not sure at what income level one would be.

So why doesn't Kier Starmer just say he will raise NI by 40% and resolve the NHS crisis?

nationallampoons · 26/04/2023 01:09

My MP thinks people can change sex 🤷🏻‍♀️ labour

BlippiIsAnnoying · 26/04/2023 01:11

We were warned. Still this stupid country votes Tory.

US income per capita is much higher than the UK

The UK cannot afford the £5,000 because national income is too low.

Realistically, you might get a 10% boost and go from £3,500 to £3,850.

When you raise NI you reduce disposable income.

You also increases costs to employers via employee NI.

You would then see stagnant wage growth and less people employed.

The only realistic way of adding NI now is to male the retired over 65s pay NI as they are the heaviest users of the NHS and are obviously not employed.

No they don’t but this is who we have representing us and voting on our behalf in parliament

I disagree that the NHS should become a private enterprise.

It is shit and there are too many with fabricated induced illness enacting Annexe B and Eugenics on autistic children, they gaslight us about trans, it is staffed by very corrupt people.

Reform is required, it should be secular not following weird anti science ideologies that go against the Nolan principles.

Your MP is allowed to have their own beliefs and you can always move.

They’re allowed to have their own views but aren’t they representing the public in parliament? Is this what those who voted Tory want?

You will eventually have a small staff of specialist Drs making care plans with IT AI and care assistants doing physical things like blood tests. Unfortunately do no harm and being an anti science parrot who follows care plans and does not uss critical thinking skills is quite common now, so AI won't be much different.

Wenfy · 26/04/2023 01:22

You misunderstood what they were saying OP. They were talking about public-private partnerships and how AI will eventually be used more in triage - it already is in some private hospitals.

You will have to ask your neighbours. Maybe look at moving somewhere else with an MP you prefer.

I understand Health care assistants will be carrying out most human care eventually.

The borg chanting chestfeed/TWAW jobsworth will not be much different to the AI borg.

Nat6999 · 26/04/2023 02:24

With the state of the country I wouldn't say any Toryseat is a safe seat. Join a party & start campaigning, change will only come if people make it.

Eleganz · 26/04/2023 02:46

Many Tories do, a big payday for their donors after all. My MP is the same - one of many reasons why I will be doing my bit to vote him out when I get a chance.
