I suffer from eczema and am allergic to lanolin . . . .

(Would still LOVE to see a sheep on a bus, though! 😀)

@RampantIvy actually fourteen houses did state even if it were someone who had a legit service dog, they still had to go. If that’s not hilariously entitled, I don’t know what it is.

“Some people are abusing the system plain and simple.” The dog owners were allowed in the coffee shop. They didn’t pretend they had a service dog to abuse the system.

To be fair to Fourteen Horses, she did say that she genuinely hadn't realised that it was against the law to deny entry to a guide dog anywhere. She did take this new info on board.

OTOH, I can’t imagine how she could even thinking that she and her DS should take precedence over a blind person with a guide dog. In a dog-friendly cafe. That really was the height of entitlement. I'm really not surprised that her comment provoked such a strong reaction on that thread.

‘How she could even think’, that should read! There really should be an edit button on MN.

"It is against the law to exclude my service dog from any public space, and if someone told me to move, I'd tell them to move."

That is not true because in some places all dogs are not allowed including service dogs. What there has to be is a lawful reason for not allowing service dogs.

You clearly have no concept of how severe allergies can be.

I have read the previous thread and the entitlement of people with “service” dogs is outrageous. There really should be a register of “service” dogs, a record of their training and a log of how their training progressed, there should also be a final assessment of owner and handler and these assessments should be ongoing during the lifetime of the dog. There needs to be some sort of governing body to oversee these “service dogs”. I certainly have no issue with guide dogs, deaf dogs or any dog that has paperwork to prove that they assist with disabilities. Unfortunately, there is no legality for this so anyone can claim that they have a “service” dog…

How is someone more entitled with a service dog for expecting to be allowed in a public space with their dog than someone with an allergy expecting them to be removed from the place?

If you have an allergy and a service dog is there, leave. You’re the one with the problem. Not anyone else.

If someone has an allergy to dogs why go to cafes/pubs etc that allow dogs?

You have a choice to not go there.

It isn't always obvious, as the other poster found out to her cost.

If it's a genuine service dog, I agree. A guide dog would fall under that banner. However, if it's a random pet someone has decided is a support dog without any kind of training or assessment for medical need, that's very different...

The trouble is, there's no distinction made in this country at present.

I completely understand someone with a guide dog being prioritised above me. I don't extend the same compassion or understanding to someone who hasn't followed a due process to get a service animal.
