My Neighbour collects Dog S**T

Ethsmum · 25/04/2023 12:01

I live next door to Victor Meldrew, really not a very nice person.

Few years back he knocked on my door at 11.30pm at night and told me to turn the Fing music down. There was no music playing, I have a severally disabled child who was asleep in bed. He then reported me for making too much noise for using my washing machine and tumble dryer too much. I live in a detached house. Even when the council came and done their inspection, they too could not see what his problem was.

I’m a considerate and quiet neighbour who keeps myself to myself.

So advise please. Victor Meldrew has a dog, he is very good at picking the poo up and putting it in a doggie poo bag, but ! For the last year it has sat on his patio table (bags and bags of it) this has now been move to his front garden, to join the numerous amount of full poo bags piling up.

My laundry room door is not too far away from his stash of poo, which I do sometimes leave open. I’m concerned about the amount of flies I had last year happening again this year.

He’s not an approachable guy, what do I do or it is his garden and he can stash dog poo if he wants too? 🥴 AIBU to report this or is it none of my business.

Your council will probably have an online for you can fill in do it today ,don't let it fester in your mind just do it and if he needs help maybe whoever comes to speak to him about the shit will pick up on any issues he may have .

Hehehe - don't let it fester, I see what you did there MrsJayy! 😂

OP I agree with pp - just do it online if you can, if possible say you are concerned about any hot weather we may have in the coming months.
(Not that it's your problem, but it does make you wonder what the inside of his house is like.)

Butterflyflytoday · 25/04/2023 12:57

One of my old neighbours created dog shot mountain in her garden- the stench when we opened the back windows was disgusting and it wasn’t even summer.

I told her it was bothering us - apparently someone was going to clean it in three weeks! I capped the council and it was all cleared up the day after. Definitely report!

Butterflyflytoday · 25/04/2023 12:58

Meant dog shit mountain

Definitely report to Environmental Health and maybe an anonymous referral to adult social services as well.

WCRoulade · 25/04/2023 13:05

Environmental health.

Does he have dementia or something?

8roses · 25/04/2023 13:11

That is vile - what a weirdo

Prescottdanni123 · 25/04/2023 13:14

Sounds like a difficult neighbour but at the same time, he doesn't sound very well either. Report him, and maybe mention you are concerned for his health and wellbeing as well.

Ethsmum · 25/04/2023 13:17

He doesn’t seem to have a mental illnesses.. but I guess this isn’t for me to say. He’s a very bitter man, he does like a drink and goes to the pub each day (nothing wrong with that) . I think this is his way of company, sadly people avoid him because of his nature.
I offered to plate him up a Christmas dinner one year, as he is on his own. He was so offended. I have a solar light on my shed, he checked to make sure I hadn’t run electricity down to the shed.
I think I am going to ask him to dispose of the poo as we have a bin collection this Thursday. If he doesn’t then I will report this.. thanks again Mumsnet.

If it was me I wouldn't ask him, he will likely put two and two together and realize that it's you who reported him

This. Don't approach him just report him!

Reugny · 25/04/2023 13:24

Agree with PP don't ask just report today.

It's a health hazard.

Ethsmum · 25/04/2023 13:24

He will know it’s me as the poo bags are not visible from the street. They are to the side of his house and very visible to me.

I wouldn't ask him either I understand you want to be kind give him a chance butif he was going to bin it he would have by now I think by asking him then reporting him might make things worse for you.

Mrsjayy · 25/04/2023 13:30

Oh well if its just you who sees it he's going to know its you anyway . I mean you can ask why he hasn't binned them see what he says.

I hear you but the way I see it he will be irritated if you ask him and then further irritated when he gets reported, I would want to stay off his radar as much as possible. Not asking him at least gives you some plausible deniability.
When he finds out he's been reported his mind will likely go straight to you having mentioned it to him, if you've not mentioned it then he doesn't have that as an anchor/nucleation point for his thoughts
I'm not trying to say I can judge it better than you can, you are the boots on the ground and I'm not....but that's what occurs to me 🤷

Definitely report to Environmental Health and maybe an anonymous referral to adult social services as well.

I'd do this in case he needs support. If he's just a dick it might make him cop himself on.

Riapia · 25/04/2023 13:38

Bag your own dog’s shit and start throwing it on his pile. That should spur him into action.

I think it would spur him into posting dog faeces through OPs letterbox.
Obviously he deserves it but I don't think it would be an effective strategy for dealing with the situation!

We had similar issues with a neighbour many years ago. She would come round and hammer on the front door, shouting at us to stop banging doors and playing loud music in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep. She even did it when we were away on holiday.

We were renting at the time and our landlady was local. We told her what was happening and she reported to social services. It turned out the poor woman had early onset dementia, but lived alone so no-one had realised. I’m not sure whether or not she got the help she needed, because we moved out shortly afterwards, but I hope she did.

I would refer to Environmental Services in the first instance and if they come out to assess, they may do their own Social Services referral if they are concerned about his wellbeing.

Reugny · 25/04/2023 13:47

If someone opened his gate and walked to his front door like the postman/postwoman or a parcel delivery driver would they see or smell any of the poo bags?

user1471538283 · 25/04/2023 13:49

Report him to environmental health.

Next time he starts on you tell him to never speak to you again.

My ex neighbor once reported her neighbour for using the washer too much. With a baby.

Now I'm noise sensitive but washers, traffic. It has to happen so it doesn't bother me.

I mean this most people get post or leaflet drops or whatever and they would notice the bags,

Killingmytime · 25/04/2023 13:59

Don't ask him just report him? Why should you be nice to him after what he’s done?
stop giving him chances!
