Posting for traffic, sorry.

DH was taking beloved dog for early hours walk. Dog has somehow managed to escape chasing something down the road (I know limited details as DH has been running around). Happened only a street back from us. We live in a suburban area.

DH has been looking and shouting for him for about 2 hours. Have called dog warden to report etc.

I have a 4MO DS. What would be the earliest you would wrap baby up warm and pop in a pram to help look?

Sky is starting to get lighter in south east. Desperate to go help look for him as I'm so worried 😞

Yay!! So happy DPooch is found. Hope he is not injured or unwell.

Lostdoghelp · 23/04/2023 06:54

Thanks all.

I will never take him out not in his harness.

DH has had a firm telling off.

Our lovely boy had got into someone's garden (street behind) and was let in their house, fed lots of treats and had lots of cuddles. They saw DH shouting for him in the road and let him know they had him.

Sigh of relief

Great news. Take a trip to your local pet store get your dog a slip lead or fit his collar properly so that he can’t slip it. If a collar is too loose it’s pretty useless when needed most, as you found out today. May be worth investing in an air tag to put on his collar for peace of mind too.

mum11970 · 23/04/2023 06:58

If your dog normally wears a harness and you want a quick option for a middle of the night wee a slip lead is ideal to have at hand. Go catch up on your sleep.

cheekyffer · 23/04/2023 07:01

He may make it back to the house. If you are there keep all doors open, so if scared he can dash in.

PinkButtercups · 23/04/2023 07:01

Oh glad you found him! You were out there panicking and he was having the best time of his doggy life! Cheeky!

cheekyffer · 23/04/2023 07:02

Just saw your update - so glad you have got him back.

Susieb2023 · 23/04/2023 07:02

Just arrived at this thread, so happy you found your furry boy and that he’s safe and sound! Hooray!

Oh how lovely. So fortunate they were awake and nice people!
I'm glad he's home.
Don't be too hard on DH, he'll already be feeling terrible.

Lostdoghelp · 23/04/2023 07:05

Thanks all! Will be investing in slip lead.

There I am crying in the street shouting his name. And he's all cuddled up!

He's currently sleeping and dreaming away in his bed. Must of been a very exciting night for him 🤣

DH FOUND HIM

Omg I am so happy

Oh this made me so happy! So pleased for you

CurlewKate · 23/04/2023 07:09

Such a relief but "DH has had a firm telling off." Is a joke? Please tell me this is a joke!

why should it be a joke?
If I took our dog out and lost him through carelessness I'd expect DH to be pissed off with me.

DH has had this happen before - more than once (3 times) but has been able to catch him by running after him.

The last time it happened (by a busy road) he promised whole heartedly to use the harness. So yes, he did have a firm telling off.

We have a great relationship and he knew he had been in the wrong. Of course it was very short lived upset and we are so happy he's home.

Omg I’ve just seen this. What a relief! Our dog goes crazy if you let him off the lead in the dark or anywhere exciting and new. We didn’t know that beforehand and once lost him in the dark at our local park. Luckily dh found him not far away in a cul de sac. Your dog may be the same - I know he was on the lead but if you walk him off lead, I would be very wary of where you do.

Might be nice to gift the family who took him in too.

littlejo67 · 23/04/2023 07:23

So glad you found him. We have a dog that slipped his collar twice. Collars can be dangerous if they are too tight.

We use a harness now and it's one that has two clasps. One behind front legs and one in front of back legs. It has a handle on the top that makes moving him so easy. The make is RuffWare. So worth it to keep your dog safe.

You can buy harnesses that dogs can wear all the time if that would help. Eg these from red dingo.

Thanks all! We have an awesome harness so have no idea why DH occasionally thinks the dog will be alright not wearing it ....

Anyway lesson has definitely been learnt the hard way for DH this time!

He feels terrible about it, he's currently in bed with a cup of tea, bless him

so glad to hear of your happy ending, what a releif

Oneglassisnotenough · 23/04/2023 07:41

Oh that’s lovely ❤️

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 23/04/2023 07:45

I’d give my dh a telling off if he lost the family pet 3 times too, I don’t blame you at all.

lidlbrownjug · 23/04/2023 08:03

mummymayhem18 · 23/04/2023 08:31

@ThickSkinnedSoWhat I was also going to suggest the same of getting the nice people that took the dog in something nice. It could of ended so differently or someone could of taken him. Glad he's been found. 😊
