Is a cleaner worth the money?

Ifiehevejdi · 21/04/2023 13:30

I'm considering hiring a cleaner. I have a small house, 2 bed and just kitchen and lounge downstairs.

im a single mum to one preschool aged child and also work full time and have found recently it hard to keep up with all the house work

hiring a cleaner would put a dent in finances but I could afford it by cutting back elsewhere. Just wanted opinions from others - do you find it's worth the money?

and how much per month do you generally spend on a cleaner?

Yes worth it. I have more free time now, just the daily tidy and laundry to do. I’m less stressed.
I pay £14 p/h

Highflow · 21/04/2023 13:35

Sorry you asked pm… £112

Crazycatladyy · 21/04/2023 13:57

We have a cleaner, she spends between 2 & 4 hours a week doing the cleaning (4 bed) and the ironing. Costs £13ph.

Well worth the money as I commute and hate spending the weekend doing chores, and I'm crap at ironing, takes me forever.

A good cleaner should be able to do your house in an hour, if it's just cleaning. Make sure the house is tidy before they arrive so time effectively.

Jellycatspyjamas · 21/04/2023 14:04

I spend £120-£140 a month and it’s well worth the money to me. I know that whatever happens in the week the beds will be changed, the bathrooms and kitchen will have a proper clean and the floors will have been mopped, furniture moved etc.

TheHoover · 21/04/2023 14:05

£90 every other week.
fortnightly cleaning is a perfect way of affording it

Snugglemonkey · 21/04/2023 14:20

I think it is well worth it. We pay £15 an hour.

TeeBee · 21/04/2023 14:23

I pay £18/hour. But only have my cleaner come every two weeks, so £108/month. Worth every flipping penny! I can't be arsed with cleaning when I'm running businesses and parenting two teenagers. Happy to outsource that.

tescocreditcard · 21/04/2023 14:25

It's definately worth it. You can always make more money, but you can never make more time.

sixfoot · 21/04/2023 14:26

Also £15 / hour. They bring all equipment and cleaning products. We have four hours a week for a five bed / three bath / three storey house. They also change the beds and wash / hang the bed linen. Can leave list eg under sofas, inside fridge etc and they’ll tick them off as they go.

Ifiehevejdi · 21/04/2023 14:51

Thanks everyone, I think this has given me the nudge I needed to just do it!

£15/hr and it's the best money we spend. I think I'd cut most other things before I cut the money for our cleaner. Honestly, the headspace it gives me is invaluable.

Peccary · 21/04/2023 15:02

Definitely, ours is fortnightly for two hours and does 2 bathrooms, the kitchen and a good hoover and mop throughout. We both work full time , the time saved at the weekend to be with DD is worth more than the money to us (60pm)

LisaD1 · 21/04/2023 15:09

Definitely worth it. We have our every other week and then keep on top of it in between. I’d like weekly but she doesn’t have space and I don’t want anyone else

murasaki · 21/04/2023 15:10

Yes - similar sized house and I ahte cleaning. £50 for 3 hours (outer London) and it's well worth my sanity and free times at weekends. She's great, I'd cut on other things before losing her.

changer121 · 21/04/2023 15:11

Absolutely worth it to us !
Large 5 bed 3 bath house
5hours a week and they are fantastic
We pay £17 an hour

Krawnprackers · 21/04/2023 15:12

we have a 3 bed terraced, and have a 3 hour clean per fortnight. Very worth it for us! £19 per hour, £136 a month for a great company who pay a decent wage and always a brilliant service.

Doversole7 · 21/04/2023 15:13

It’s worth the money if you get a good one and can afford it. I wouldn’t have one if it left me short in other areas.

Loopylooni · 13/07/2023 07:04

I have 4 hrs a week @£15 each = £60 Previously I had every 2 weeks for 4 hrs but at a lower rate. £15 is the norm in London. Its indulgent but makes my life so much easier.

Loopylooni · 13/07/2023 07:06

So £240 a month

BravoMyDear · 13/07/2023 07:08

Oh fuck, yes! If you can afford it, do it. I pay £30 for two hours per week.

Thehonestbadger · 13/07/2023 07:14

I definitely think it’s worth it.
That being said we have two toddlers so find that the ‘tidy’ element of cleaners only lasts 5 minutes but the deep cleans of the bathrooms and kitchens and floors are what make the real difference.

We spend about £80 per clean and get them fortnightly. We find this is enough to keep the bathrooms/kitchens in decent condition as long as I nip around with my little cordless hoover and detol between cleans.

Mummadeze · 13/07/2023 07:16

£45 every two weeks. SO worth it for me. Makes my heart sing to come back to a spotless house after my long commute on the days she comes.

Possiblynotever · 13/07/2023 07:18

The best money I spend and the last I would like to cut.
I love having a clean house and unfortunately it is painful to keep it so. £15 an hour and I need 12 a month.
Worth every penny if you get the right cleaner.
The best I ever had was a beautiful beautiful young girl ( model beautiful) whose child had health issues. She needed to work but could not commit to a fixed schedule.
I did not care when she came but was delighted every time I saw her. She was extremely professional and knew how to deal with issues I did not know about.

I still miss her terribly (child grew up of her problems thanks God!)

LoveBluey · 13/07/2023 07:20

I'd say yes providing you find a good one you trust and that your house is generally fairly tidy.
My house is very cluttered (something I'm working on changing) and I found I had to spend a huge amount of time moving things in preparation for the cleaners visit to the point I figured I may as well just clean the surfaces now I've cleared them all!

ZenNudist · 13/07/2023 07:23

I've just got rid as after 13 years I just feel it's not worth the money. I used to pay 25 per week for 2.5 hours and now they are quoting 65 . Can get someone for 40. They don't do a good job and I still have lots of cleaning to do. I slways rhought it was worth it but now my old cleaner has finished I see I'm not spending thst long doing my own cleaning.
