To think people should mind their own business regarding my childcare

My ds of 16 mths attends nursery in the mornings while I go to work.

I went to my local garage to get some bits and the shop assistant who recognises me because I go in quite a bit, asked me where my ds was. I replied he is in nursery. The cheeky * then sucked in her cheeks and said I wouldn't do that! I replied well I would She then I asked how old he was. I answered and she said it was too young I told her to mind her own business and marched out.

I already felt horible as ds cried when I left him there.

Seriously rude imo.

No YANBU that is really out of order.

OverMyDeadBody · 15/02/2008 14:48

YANBU. Glad you told her to mind her own business.

LEMONADEGIRL · 15/02/2008 14:49

You did the right thing. Shop elsewhere too they don't deserve your business.

alfiesbabe · 15/02/2008 15:02

YANBU. She has issues. IME people who do this either have no children of their own yet, or gave up a good job to have kids and never regained a decent job again so are jealous!

YANBU - it really is none of her business. Has she ever had any kids of her own? If she has, unless she had a v rich partner, she should understand the dilemmas and agonies working parents have to face. Silly moo.

cmotdibbler · 15/02/2008 15:08

YANBU. Why do people have to do this ?

DS has been at nursery since 4.5 months (now 20 months). Sometimes now he crys in the morning just so that they will hold him up at the window and he can wave at me in the car.

juuule · 15/02/2008 15:25

If you are okay with your ds being in nursery. If your ds is okay being in nursery. Or if you have no option but to do this and have made a decision balancing your family's needs why let what someone else thinks of your decision upset you?
She has her opinion. You have yours. People's opinions don't always match.
Don't let her upset you.

MAMAZON · 15/02/2008 15:31

don't ignore her. report her!

how incredibly rude

sparklesandwine · 15/02/2008 15:37

How rude

glad you told her to mind her own business, cheeky cow!

I'm not sure why people feel that they have the need/right to comment on others childcare/parenting/working situations unless they are actually asked for their opinion, its just rude otherwise - don't let it worry you though

mummoomin · 15/02/2008 15:42

YANBU! The nasty woman! I think I would report her too.

minouminou · 15/02/2008 16:04

I would as well (report her).

LEMONADEGIRL · 15/02/2008 18:29

thank you all for your comments.

I would never comment on someone elses arrangements also was really shocked as she had always seemed pleasant. Deff not going their for a while though in case I see her

thats what grates so much ndthw, she made me feel like a bad mum, which I am not.

I don't like leaving ds and today was a hard as he cried for me. Generally he is really happy.

TDONB < reminds herself that some people cant possibly understand>

I do believe that he enjoys nursery, his reports generally say how cheerful and happy he is - so that makes me feel better.

Thanks everyone x
